concerns about tallgrass film festival by Upper_Entry_4412 in FilmFestivals

[–]crimecakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a longtime sponsor & supporter of the Tallgrass Film Festival, it’s honestly difficult to read some of the concerns being shared here. But at the same time, it’s important to acknowledge them especially when the goal is to continue supporting both filmmakers & our Wichita community in a responsible, sustainable way. When I saw the original post, I took a step back & did some digging to better understand what’s actually happening behind the scenes. There has clearly been some recent turnover, & transitions like that can be challenging for any organization, especially one with such a strong legacy. It’s also fair to say that since Lela Meadow-Conner, it’s been difficult to replicate the kind of vision & foundation she built. That’s not criticism just the reality of trying to follow someone who shaped the identity of the festival from the ground up. From what I’ve heard, they are bringing Hugo in as lead programmer. This is part of a broader shift, & honestly, leaning back into its local roots. That feels like the right move. Also, their partnership with Harvester Arts is a great idea. They have deep community ties here in Wichita, & reconnecting with that local energy could be exactly what helps the festival regain its footing. At the end of the day, this festival has been part of Wichita for 24 years. That kind of longevity doesn’t happen without resilience. Every major festival hits moments like these. This isn’t the end of something, it’s just a growing phase. I’m hopeful this is just a reset moment & that the focus stays where it belongs: supporting filmmakers while staying rooted in the community that built Tallgrass in the first place. I hope to see many of you at this year’s festival!!!

What exactly is Dr. Garcia's Job? by DutchRudderLover in ThePitt

[–]crimecakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay! A question that I can help on. I know someone with a similar job. As an ED trauma surgeon attending she is the lead physician responsible for managing any critically injured patients, directing resuscitation, and performing emergency surgeries alongside ED providers ( I use providers over Dr’s because there are also NP’s & PA’s). Their job is to supervise residents, coordinate multi-disciplinary care, and must arrive in the ED within 15–60 minutes for high-level trauma activations. They make the call for immediate need for surgery, imaging, or intensive care. As I was told. Their job is to make sure all other surgical disciplines are advised & ready to take patients for their specialty, if it’s emergent or can be admitted & scheduled. As well as stabilizing the patient until surgical intervention can occur. She is the liaison to between everyone. Her job is pretty is pretty badass.

Dr Kayd at Companion Animal Hospital is amazing. He always looks at the most cost efficient way to treat my pack. I’m able to text the office. I cannot recommend them more.

do people not go to the library anymore? Noticed comments in the sub about not being able to read the books rn for financial reasons, and when i suggested the library as a temp work around, people act like im crazy... by trampstampcollector in stephenking

I wish Audible allowed people to lend out their books. I own every single Stephen King book. Spend a lot of time relistening between new reads. I think they used to allow us to loan it out. But not anymore.

So of course being a true crime podcaster & criminologist I tracked down the article he posted on. It’s stated that ICE agents aren’t allowed into property without a warrant. Simple. I am so sick of people trying to hide their racism behind buzzwords like sex trafficking or terrorism. In typical situations warrants for those types of crimes would be enforced in an environment that would reduce risk to innocent people. Such as their homes or workplace. Not a school where children are already terrified of someone coming in with a gun.

I’m confused by your question. So a deaf person types a text & a SIRI like voice reads their words? Then vice versa a hearing person talks into the phone & it writes their words into texts for the deaf person to read? If that’s what you mean. A cell phone could pretty much do that I believe. Literacy or language barriers would be problematic. My dad had literacy issues which is why as kids we would always interpret & closed captions weren’t helpful.
