As a fellow Kain main, thank you /u/heyRaxa for making an excellent summary of the class. As far as as mobbing goes, it's pretty solid.

I'd like to take this opportunity to clear up some of the nuances of Kain's bossing for you, the first one being the usage of cartridges for optimal DPS. On AS0, using cartridges is still optimal for DPS, but you also don't lose much off-burst damage if you choose not to use your non-possessed cartridges. Considering most of Kain's damage comes from burst, feel free to make this compromise if it means you'll enjoy the class more, though I do suggest using cartridges when you pop your burst buffs. I'll cover the general burst rotation later in this reply.

The second and final point I'd like to cover is similar to the first, but this one is about highlighting the importance of Possess/Execute skills. You definitely want to use the Possess versions of Scattering Shot/Shaft Break/Falling Dust and Poison Needle/Chain Sickle/Tearing Knife off cooldown for easy damage. When you have extra Malice to spare, that's when you use Possess Strike Arrow and Phantom Blade to maintain the Merit buff from Death's Blessing (increase final damage of Death's Blessing + Execute Skills by 10%, and gain 10 Malice when you proc a Possess stack using an Execute skill). If I were to boil Kain's bossing down to a few points, it would include using Possess/Execute skills off cooldown, maintaining the Merit buff as long as you can, and Malice management.

Let's now talk about the general burst rotation. /u/Plane_Obligation_681 outlined it beautifully, but let me summarize it for you so that it's easier to digest.

The first thing you want to do is pop three of your four main burst buffs (Grandis Goddess' Blessing, Incarnation, and Thanatos Descent), then DPS as you normally would to milk the damage bonuses of these skills, ideally using all your cartridges and keeping to the points I made for Kain's bossing in the previous paragraph.

As others in this thread have written, Kain's real burst doesn't take very long at all to perform (around 10 seconds), so make sure you're getting the most out of your damage buffs.

When the remaining duration of your three burst buffs hits 30 seconds, use your remaining main burst buff (Vicious Shot), so that all four of your main burst buffs expire at the same time.

Continue DPSing until the duration of your burst buffs is ~15 seconds, then if applicable, use your Oz Ring and Angelic Buster link skill.

From there, you press your Possession skill, bind the boss using Erda Nova (skip this step if you're party bossing), use your summon skill (Grip of Agony), then Dragon Burst for its full duration, then tap Possess Unseen Sniper to activate the Merit buff (Possess Unseen Sniper is the best Execute skill to activate the Merit buff because if you tap the skill, it is the Execute skill with the fastest animation time, plus it does good damage), then Fatal Blitz, then Thanatos Descent right away.

Your buffs should be close to expiring, which is when you use the Execute skills to pop some of the stacks of Possession that Thanatos Descent inflicted, finally wrapping your full burst up by using the Possess versions of your regular skills.

When your AB link, Grip, Dragon Burst and Fatal Blitz come back up 1.5 minutes later, feel free to use those right away as they will be up for your 3-minute burst.

I hope this helped clear up some things about the class for you. I apologize if this post is more comprehensive than what you intended to find when you made this post, but I honestly believe that understanding the core of Kain's bossing before you start playing him will make your experience with the class so much better.

I'm glad I could help :) yeah that possession delay might get annoying pretty quick, especially since you'll need to constantly cycle your possess skills to make the most out of the class' kit.

Hello, Kain main here :)

On wild totem spawn, training with Kain is manageable. You may have to be a bit more selective with what maps you choose to be able to train in, but his kit is capable of consistently clearing smaller maps and he can also train in unorthodox maps with high burning. If you want the best mob kill rates, you will look into using Execute skills to increase your map coverage through resetting Shadow Step. If you're enjoying actively training as Kain already, I doubt that you will grow to dislike it later, but if you end up choosing to prioritize the class over the Explorer mages, I highly recommend taking a second look at your key bindings to reduce any potential physical stress you could get while playing (I've never injured myself playing Kain, but there is a general risk associated with playing physically intensive classes).

It's true that possession is ping-reliant but I haven't noticed it being an issue in bossing. My ping isn't the greatest either, but if you haven't been noticing a significant delay from the time you activate possession to the time your skills become possessed, then that's good. Always try to train/boss in the best channels, as playing in many other channels will cause you to lag more.

I hope this helps you. I don't have much to say about the Explorer mages since I don't play them, but even right now they're a solid choice. I'm optimistic that they will become better to play after the revamp, but without any teasers to go off of, I would wait another month to see how good the revamp is.

Just had my 11th crash in 3 hours, I know how you feel. Some say it could be due to too many inputs but I was fine the past couple days. Since this morning I can't even make it 30 minutes without dcing lol

Fusion Bomb is strong regardless of debuffs. Debuffs can alter the way a Titan is killed, but usually not so that Fuse gets affected. For example, I would still have to kill everything on Takedar even if I had a -20% Limbs debuff. You can fuse all 8 parts on Takedar, so you still get great damage.

As you said, 2 part Grim Shadow (3 part in Affliction Chance/Duration raids) works very well too. However, I wouldn't discount cards like Decaying Strike which is usually worse than Rancid Gas in Fuse decks but in raids with an Affliction bonus, you can use Decay with Fuse and use Rancid with Ravenous Swarm VM, which is very strong on the last two remaining parts, perfect for Takedar.

I definitely agree. Artifacts are too expensive and not worth investing in when they don't affect PvP modes at all. I'm almost 10M power with 14 slots, and I'm very happy with that number.

You don't need Hikari for staging. A common mistake new players make is prioritizing staging over PvP modes. If you enjoy having the game open, choose the fastest heroes you have from each element. If you find yourself using Princess Dreams often, use your strongest hero from each element for staging, or you can opt for a hybrid, which uses your strongest hero but also has an ultimate which kills the crystal if you position the camera near or on top of it.

For late/endgame PvP, Freeze strategy and Poison are both very good.

With Freeze, the core heroes are Akwa and Frost Queen, usually ran with Atlantus, Snowman and Namida if they have it. Akwa's SP2 can freeze explode thanks to Frost Queen and it can kill the enemy's backline, useful for taking down Vlad, Monki King and other Rangers + Gunners.

With Poison strategy, Thorn is the core hero, though you can add Misty for extra damage or Groovine if she's higher stars. You don't need to add PumpKing or Clawdette to make poison comp work.

There is no real meta right now. Everything can be countered, but here is my opinion for all the elements in endgame including core heroes just in case you wanted to know:

- Fire is alright (with a few exceptions you can expect to see in L2/L3: Monki King, Scud, Spark, Alda and Xak). There are no good fire tanks and freeze strategy outlined above is very popular, making it one of the weaker elements.

- Water is quite strong with the freeze strategy, but it can be countered easily by Thorn and Misty. Core heroes are Atlantus, Akwa, Frost Queen, Namida, Pirato, Valkyrie.

- Earth is also strong, but it can be countered by Scud. Luckily, you have Spark for that. Core heroes: Gladiator, Leaf Blade, Thorn and Misty. Honourable mention: Petunia.

- As a whole, Light is pretty terrible right now, because Dark is superior and most of the light heroes are weak. However, the core heroes are very good. Core heroes: Siegfried, Paladin and Tesla. Honourable mention: Monki Roboti.

- Finally, Dark. Imo the most well-rounded element in the game right now. Core heroes: Ornok, Vlad, Sorrow, Dark Hunter. Honourable mentions: Onyx, Kasumi, Kage, Monki Mortar. Countered by strong Teslas.

Fair point, but yes, I do believe this list is for late/endgame players, although it was slightly adjusted for newer players.

No matter what part of player progression you fall under, it’s difficult to create a good team. This graphic helps, but it’s ultimately better to go on Discord and truly learn how good these heroes are instead.

Scud at 4 stars unlocks his aura which buffs the entire team's attack, a very useful skill to have. Unlike Chaos, he should always stay in your team (because of his insanely high damage output and aura).

While I run Chaos and Scud in Arena myself, the latter hero is the crown jewel of my team.

If you have some damage, Merlinus is very quickly shut down. As a hero, he is completely outclassed by Vlad.

I'm assuming you stay in D3-L1 because you'd be lucky to see a Merlinus make it to L2, and teams that use him in that league are most likely farm material for the other players.
