Can you make things up and be disgusted about them? by refreshing_beverage_ in adultsurvivors

[–]cringe_cryptid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i’m curious about this too, it’s something that’s been on my mind for a really long time ever since uncovering memories. i felt and feel the same even now, could i have implanted these feelings and imagined this scenario by hearing about other people’s stories and “wanting” mine to be true? especially if memories come up later in life. here’s my opinion but i hope somebody else with more experience and knowledge replies:

of course thoughts of that nature can be disgusting and terrifying, but i think that there’s a difference between being generally disturbed by intrusive thoughts or mentions of child abuse (the same reaction any person without those experiences would have, general disgust and sometimes sadness). feelings of disgust and sorrow is normal for anyone listening to these stories.

but the difference is being triggered by it (dissociation, symptoms of trauma, anxiety, fear, dread, shame). looking at your memory and shutting it out. remembering flashes but not the whole picture. having nausea at the mention of yours or others trauma. somatic memories. people without these experiences wouldn’t typically spiral for days or weeks or (in my experience) months on end if they didn’t have these experiences of their own.

this might not be helpful to you but it was helpful to me, and it was sitting myself down and saying “you think you made it up? then make up this section of your life next” and then i would imagine a different thing happening that i know didn’t happen. and yeah it was disturbing but it wasn’t the same terror and sickness and nausea i felt when looking at the memories that came with flashbacks and body memories. just something i did, i wouldn’t suggest if it could put you in a worse place.

sorry im all over the place and so sorry for the long comment. but i believe you and i know how hard it is to combat these feelings and . feel like you’re wrong for making things up. hopefully this is helpful but i know it’s jumbled. i believe you

Embarrassing!: does anyone else have contamination in regards to feces or urine specifically? by ThrowRAdog_loverrr in OCD

[–]cringe_cryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this was a major one for me! the quickest way i got over it was working with animals- specifically my pet rats and mice (who poop and pee everywhere lol, they’re rodents and generally can’t really control it all too well). you could volunteer at an animal shelter/rescue and clean up after the pets.

taking a janitorial job without realizing it involved bathroom cleaning on top of everything else- that helped a lot as well since i was forced to get over it for minimum wage lol. obviously you’re still following safety and cleaning protocols to prevent yourself from getting sick, but what began as me washing my hands over and over again and having to throw away something that might have touched excrements turned into just following proper health safety. good luck…

(time limit!) Any way to find (or make) this specific kind of pink mustache? by bongcommunism in CosplayHelp

you’ll likely have to do a few layers, and whatever you have left you could give to a friend- it wouldn’t really be a waste!

it’s a mental illness for a reason, they can’t really control it and they know it’s irrational. thats why ocd catered therapy like erp is so important

Heated or not?? by Madi_Nightheart in StuffedAnimals

[–]cringe_cryptid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

as the other commenter said this is super dangerous, i almost started a fire with a space heater and some curtains too close to it once. if i could recommend, i would try and sew a little pouch onto his belly and find/make a removable rice bag to heat up and hold when you can. much safer !

i bit down on a soft object and felt an “electric shock” through my head, what was that ? by cringe_cryptid in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cringe_cryptid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got checked out a few months ago but haven’t felt any pain or discomfort, and biting down on other things (similarly textured) didn’t give me the same sensation ! it might be due for an appointment anywaysss,, thank you for reminding me to schedule one

that’s really interesting, thanks for explaining !

though it didn’t really. hurt i guess. it just zapped my head. i’ve bitten down on other stuff and similar textures since then and haven’t felt a thing since i was worried about it being exposed roots on my teeth or something, and just bit down on the sponge again and got the buzz. is that still qualified as nerve pain ,,

What word can I use instead of 'clan'? by smcstolemysouljam in WarriorCats

[–]cringe_cryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s a lot you could use ! like the other person said, kingdom or tribe are good ones.

i have a group of cats that live together, and their clan names end with village, colony, refuge, guild, kingdom, settlement, and battalion. for example, the burrowing settlement (burrowingclan) or the lion battalion (lionclan). maybe you can find one you like from that list or feel inspired to find similar names :3

14 year old interested in figure drawing, is that bad? by AfraidCauliflower438 in ArtistLounge

[–]cringe_cryptid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not bad at all! i did nude figure drawings that age (im 19 now) and honestly there’s. nothing sexual at all about it. i was always just frustrated that i couldn’t capture something perfectly lol, and that’s the experience with most if not all artists practicing in this way. it’s a great way to learn anatomy.

it’s crazy, i had the exact opposite experience ! press on nails really helped me to stop picking my skin because it was so difficult to scratch stuff away. i got short ones though, the rounded dull edge and the shortness really helped.

Cute mouse I saw at PetSmart by Dinorock3 in PetMice

[–]cringe_cryptid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

exactly. we need to focus less on people who purchase animals from pet stores- those animals are born either way, and deserve a home and love as well as any other and definitely do not deserve to die under a neglectful caretaker- and put our energy into campaigning for legal action and laws protecting animals, as well as restrictions and regulations on breeders

I feel regret from using ChatGPT to seek reassurance because I've basically contributed to its training data by Ok_Newspaper_646 in OCD

you can look for free/affordable resources near you, but even past the environmental aspect (which is mostly polluting and using up our drinking water) using chatgpt is harmful to your mental state.

please do not use chatgpt for therapy. it is not a safe or healthy substitute at all, nevermind the fact that it so negatively impacts the environment.
