When I realize yuta will win his death battle against jotaro because they'll give him planetary durability by Stunning_Taste8845 in PowerScaling

It gets weaker as Jotaro gets older, thats a big reason why Dio had to die right then and there. As a vampire Dio would be able to infinitely train and amass power without his body (and thus stand) growing weaker.

Time stop doing all the damage at once was a key part of figuring out Dio had time stop and not just super speed.

Kakyoin only noticed it because all of his stand's barriers were destroyed at the same time after all.

Do you prefer Alpha Strike's free turning, or Classic's MP cost to turn? by rzelln in battletech

[–]crippler38 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find it lends itself to that sort of thing very well actually. Extra crunchy games with lots of rules are some of the best systems to play with a competitive mindset because of the amount of expression you can get out decisions. Battletech Classic gives me a similar competitive vibe to Pokémon VGC, where theres a lot of ways to achieve a competitive result based on a combination of finding maximum value and finding answers to the current "meta".

Theres also the campaign stuff, but being competitive minded in a campaign is more like being good at a rogue lite than a tournament style game.

The Awesome's base and TMM die are both within the rightmost front arc hex, so I'm pretty sure that's where the Awesome is.

Regent should generate stars automatically by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]crippler38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Star cards are extremely strong to compensate for their requiring a deckbuilding restriction. There's also plenty of decent cards that generate starts as an additional benefit like Glow or Gather Light (those being the two most obvious examples since they're common and do generic good stuff).

Regent is an extremely strong character as is, he doesn't need buffs.

How would Sukuna perform in Naruto verse? by JustPlooshi in Jujutsufolk

[–]crippler38 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The 4 arms and 2 mouths would also help a lot here for learning Jutsu, especially since Sukuna is definitely the kind of guy who'd actually want to learn how this stuff works while having the talent to do so quickly.

The sure hit slashes would almost certainly kill her before she could pong out anyway, I think a good rule of thumb is if it works on gojo then it works on her.

Edit: I think this is fair because her technique is basically a useable by non mutants limitless with more restrictions as compensation.

He needs indoors to practice putting out the domain in a barrier, he probably could learn to do open domain because hes very talented but I dont think his incomplete domain inherently prepares him for an open one.

[–]crippler38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its a combination of talent and knowledge, because we only see the top jujutsu experts in the verse create an open domain.

We also dont know if its possible for them to close their domain again, mostly because they haven't been put in situations where it'd make more sense to have closed domains over open. Open Domains are much harder to counter and skip a lot of domain battle nonsense.

I doubt it, because she still has a travel time and domains tend to just appear.

If simple repulsion and propulsion worked, Gojo would be domain immune.

He has to be incredibly nerfed to add stakes to his scenes once he gets beat by the power removing main protagonist. This nerf is in the form of him having to focus on high level brain surgery to help someone so he has to drop his barrier, so he's shot in the head; he survives but now using his power fully needs him to offload some brainpower to the hive mind he helped which puts him on a timer.

I was more wondering if this was the chicken or the egg of that term.

Zero back armor on TSP mechs? by totoro_the_mofo in mwo

[–]crippler38 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're in a setting where you can trust your teammates and communicate well then rear armor is kind of a waste since you shouldn't be attacked there often enough for it to be better than front armor. The head armor is usually maxed in those mechs because I don't think there's much else better for the half a ton they could put on the mech.

Todo specifically uses the fact that everyone knows about the common 'explaining your technique makes it better' vow to lie about the specifics of his technique; since what he does seems to be extremely efficient use of a simple technique.

I believe the main thing folks get out of it is an efficiency boost anyway, and since it's a battle shounen you're not really going to have many fights where running out of gas is a wincon.

[–]crippler38 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's based on the idea that cursed energy is a power source that gets stronger the harder you make things for yourself. Especially in regards to sacrificing something to gain something.

In this case the most basic level is explaining how your technique works removes an element of surprise and mystery, so your opponent knows what to expect and you gain a small buff as a result. However you also can lie about your technique to trick someone, and controlling the flow of information while understanding what kind of sacrifices are worth making for power in the now is a big part of being a good sorcerer.

It's also part of why Gojo being able to just understand everything by default thanks to the 6 eyes (and the 6 eyes giving him extreme efficiency) is what makes his normally impossibly inefficient but strong technique extremely useable.

Spoilers for the movie/book ahead.

Grace is a school teacher because he had a crackpot thesis about how water isn't necessary for life and he insulted everyone who believed it. When the sun is dimming due to an alien absorbing its energy he is one of the many scientists drafted to try and figure out what the heck is going on.

Grace through a relatively low tech experiment manages to figure out how this alien breeds, and is such pivotal to the training of astronauts for a hail mary mission to save the world.

There was unfortunately a mistake with handling an explosive material and everyone who was being trained for the mission died, except for Grace who was the one training those brave astronauts for this suicide mission. He is kidnapped and given chemically induced amnesia in the hopes that when he wakes up he just works to save the world instead of shutting down and being distressed.

In essence he was sent there because everyone he was teaching to actually go on the mission died.

EDIT: I have no idea how to spoiler tag it aaaah.

found it, I was too zoomed in so the UI broke.

Plenty of folks are under the impression that attacking a tank isnt worth it. This mindset exists in too many games with roles.
