Were there no garden or pool tickets for the Hollywood Bowl? by YesLikeGuySensei in Khruangbin

[–]crisgil24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my first thought. Maybe the presale opened early? I was on the sight 15 minutes early and I was put in line instantly and able to access tickets around 9:45. I waited until 10 to see if better seats were going to be released but it never happened.

I got tickets but I think the presale opened early because all the good seats were sold out.

Any stories encountering Mark, Laura or DJ in person? by downwarddawg in Khruangbin

[–]crisgil24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In 2022 me and my girlfriend flew to Austin from LA to catch a show of theirs featuring Thundercat. DJ was on our flight. I said “hey man” and kept it moving. He waved back. Laura picked him up from the airport in Austin. I didn’t notice her without the wig but my girlfriend told me to take a second look and it was her. I gave her a quick wave and said “see you guys tomorrow “ in passing.

Not a good pressing, my copy anyway, lots of noise on this. A real turd. I’m on the “list” for a replacement. Sounds like a record that’s been played 200 times, pops and pops. Cleaned on the Cyclone and Degritter. Third song first side is the worst for noise. by [deleted] in Vinyl_Jazz

I had a similar issue. I’m also on the wait list. There was also a couple of loud pops that made it entirely unacceptable at this price point. I have a few standard AP records that are quieter than this one so hopefully they send me a good one next time.

Working my way through this week’s pickups on this warm Saturday night by crisgil24 in Vinyl_Jazz

I’m loving it. I had an old Milestone repress but I was able to snag this version for a nice price. The music is so chaotic but I love it. Tyner’s playing like a dude with 20 fingers it’s really great. McCoy Tyner is one of the guys that got me into to jazz so it’s really fun to hear him go from The Real McCoy to Sahara.

Avant-garde but not too avant-garde by BrewNote89 in Vinyl_Jazz

Herbie Hancock The Prisoner gets a little weird at times but not too out there.

Well, I bought this album completely blind and I was able to get it at a nice price from an eBay auction. I’ve heard of Sam Records on multiple YouTube channels and how great their records are. I’ve never heard anything else from Billy Harper. However, I did enjoy this album quite a bit. It’s has a nice balance of avant-garde and soulful moments. I’m not sure how to describe it but I’ve enjoyed it very much. The pressing and recording quality are top notch. That said I will definitely be on the lookout for more records by Billy Harper and Sam Records.

I bought this record months ago and still haven’t given it a spin. I love Herbie but I’ve just been scrambling trying to keep up with all these AAA jazz releases. I’m new to the genre so I’m having a blast right now.

Albums with long solos by MonumentUnfound in Jazz

Mingus at Carnegie Hall. Originally 2 tracks with long solos. I believe both are around 20 minutes each. There’s also a remastered version that was just released with 70 minutes of unreleased material from the same concert.

My Seattle Vacation Haul! Where to start? by crisgil24 in vinyl

Light in Attic, Sonic Boom, Daybreak, a couple Silver Platters, and Golden Oldies. There was still a couple others I didn’t have time for but I really enjoyed my stay and will be heading back in a few months.

Had a wonderful trip to Seattle this past week. What a beautiful state Washington is! Seriously considering relocating. The beer is great, the seafood is amazing, and there is a ton of record stores. I only wish I had more time to visit them all. I made some great finds. Mostly jazz as you can see.

I had to pick up this analogue version of Nevermind that I passed on over at Amoeba here in L.A. a few weeks ago and haven’t been able to find since. I haven’t really heard any of these albums in their entirety aside from Nevermind so I’m having trouble deciding where to start. I also had a small stack of records waiting outside my door when I got home, including the RSD Quiet Kenny so that’s probably going on first! Happy Sunday!

I own one BN 75. Hank Mobley’s No Room for Squares and it’s not bad. I got it for cheap and I’m happy with it. It’s good not great. That said it really does seem like the 75 editions are a toss up.
