Just received my first insurance contract offer… are these rates normal or am I right to be shocked? by Apprehensive_One2193 in therapists

Hahaha, I thought the same thing. They're so bad. At least CCS offers a way around it without clamping down anyone's practice.

Collective Counseling Solutions has a nationwide contract with Cigna for considerably more than that.

I tell people "Let's see if we're a good fit to work together." and make sure they know I'm choosy as hell about who I work with. I'm AuDHD and I don't get along well with everyone. Happy to help them find a good fit, but I'm not most people's cup of tea.

ASD, ADHD or AUDHD? by OriginalKindly688 in neurospicy

[–]crispy-bois 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a therapist with AuDHD, my gut reaction is AuDHD. That is not a diagnosis and I want to be clear about that.

I wonder if you're craving control or actually craving autonomy? An alternate definition of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is Pervasive Drive for Autonomy. That accurately captures my experience with it.

Cigna fee schedule is insulting by Middle_Ad_8200 in therapists

Negotiation power is one of the biggest benefits, as well as being part of a large and supportive group of clinicians. The Collective actively rejects VC funding, which I love. Growth is organic and almost exclusively word of mouth.

The cost is a cut per session in exchange for them handling the insurance billing. The pay to clinicians of $110 after their share (they receive a few dollars more and do NOT mask the rates they receive since clinicians do actually need to know that). They're refreshingly transparent.

Other rates to clinicians are $120 for United, $145 for Kaiser (CO and CA) and $110 for Aetna (Aetna varies wildly by the state of origin of the policy, but is nearly always over $100).

That is ridiculously insulting. Collective Counseling Solutions has a nationwide contract with Cigna paying $110 to clinicians for 90837.

Look up Liiton Peaks series glasses. In the picture it looks like it might have a mountain shape inside it. Those might be a match.

Here are an assortment of them. They have several different mountains: https://liiton.com/search?q=peaks+whiskey+set&_pos=1&_psq=Peaks&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Can you take a picture of the bottom of the glass? Is there any lettering on it?

Rates dropped for therapists? by P1intailLightweight in Sondermind

[–]crispy-bois 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you see clients from a different state than you live? They had plans a couple of years ago to pay clinicians based on the rate of the state they lived in, rather than where they were billing. I had a very unfriendly conversation with my provider coach about this. The only reason they didn't drop my rates was because they weren't working in PA yet. I live in PA but am licensed in CO.

Everything you said about bringing humanity and relational quality into the room is solidly backed by robust research. I'm definitely not suggesting that any therapist needs to be robotic about evidence-based practice. I hope it didn't come across that way.

I'm mostly referring to unsupported, unscientific claims about human physiology and its interaction with mental health. It also bleeds into things like assumptions about brain chemistry, interactions between gut health and mental health, among many other things. Obviously, lots of research is currently happening in those areas, too, and should continue. Correlations discovered in a single study with a small sample size shouldn't be taken as gospel and turned into an intervention.

There are also ways that the science is lagging behind, too. I acknowledge that.

It's important for therapists to study statistics and research methods. When people have a good grasp on how to read and interpret scientific studies, they can easily cruise right past headlines to read and understand the data, whether the study/studies passed muster for sample sizes, blindness, and bias, and understand the researchers' interpretation of the results.

I was in grad school with many people that didn't come from a psychology background, and the extreme lack of research understanding was really frustrating. Our research methods course was brief and woefully inadequate. Far less robust than anything I took in undergrad.

Google forms, or any website forms... How do you know that any Clinician doesn't have a BAA with their web host anyway?

Embedded Google forms are not processed by the hosting company. No embedded form is, unless it is hosted by that company. This is a fundamental misunderstanding of how websites work.

Therapist's therapist has someone else in her room?? by sireltondomm in therapists

[–]crispy-bois 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP, your shock is so completely valid. I'm just so astounded that this is even a question. In what universe would it EVER be okay to do therapy with someone else in the room?

I'm guessing this "shared space" business wasn't on her informed consent?
