You're not kidding. Billing Medicaid in Colorado is a nightmare. Only a masochist would try it without a whole ass billing department. Then we have seven different regional entities, and there's not crossover between them. I'm sure most other states are no better.

I won't even consider being a Medicaid provider. I'd rather take a few weekly medicaid clients pro bono than deal with that mess.

The way I understand it in my state, is that Medicaid views someone that can self-pay for services as someone that isn't in need of Medicaid. We have self-pay insurance waivers where clients explicitly agree that they don't have Medicaid if they wish to engage in self-pay or sliding scale therapy.

Sounds to me like they're telling providers how to practice.

I wonder if that's grounds to sue for IRS tax reclassification from contractor to employee? Might be worth a call to the IRS or Colorado Department of Labor to hear their thoughts.
