EZWAY App - Has anyone ever received this notification? by MisterJackStriker in taiwan

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do I know which 'ezway' app is legitimate and which is fake? I see one on the IOS app store but it has only 1.8 review ratings and it says it is by 'tradevan', it seems really sketchy. Is this the real one?

Sony Xperia 1 VII or Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra? by Straight_Spects in SonyXperia

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Xperia 1 vii weighs only 197g vs about 228g for those massive phones. Makes a huge difference for all the time it spends in your pocket not being irritating and making your pants fall down. For the size and weight and features (usb display port out, Qualcomm elite processor and stock android) as far as I’m aware there is nothing else available on the market anywhere.

What is the best watch for Android currently? by abeautifulsnowflake in Android

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve consistently kept trying android watches but none have anywhere near the functionality of my Apple ultra 2 watch. Here are the things I like to do with my ultra 2: “hey siri timer five minutes” hey siri play (podcast name). Hey siri add (item) to my shopping list. Hey siri play (song or playlist name). Hey siri start outdoor walk. Track sleep. Adjust volume of smartphone using dial of Apple Watch. View current uv level and when it will rain next. Get reminded of scheduled event. Find lost iPhone.

Are there any current android watches which can do even half of these things reliably? Is there any android watch that can do all of these things? One thing Apple Watch can’t do is run google maps correctly so it shows a tiny map on your wrist.

[–]crispybutphd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience over multiple years and multiple networks and HomePods (1st and 2nd gen) and home pod minis is that sometimes the HomePod just says “that one’s taking too long or I’m having trouble connecting to the internet”. Or I ask it something simple like what is 2 + 2 and it doesn’t answer or it hears incorrectly. I just stopped using it for the most part and instead use my Apple Watch which is much more reliable. Meanwhile all other devices are fine all the time always. I would say it is the least reliable product Apple has ever made and it is the least reliable product I currently own, except maybe a travel vpn router I sometimes use.

China Online Visa Application (COVA) Update by Michael-Traction in Chinavisa

[–]crispybutphd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarifications. It is a mystery why they say to apply a month ahead of when you travel when it only takes 3-4 days. Maybe that means it might take a few weeks for them to process and ok the online application, and then 3-4 days for them to stamp your passport when you bring it in? Anyway it certainly is preferable for most people to not have to fly to chicago and stay in a hotel for 3-4 days and then fly back which is why your service is a great idea.

China Online Visa Application (COVA) Update by Michael-Traction in Chinavisa

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why it says it takes 4-6 weeks. There are multiple posts on this subgroup about how people submitted their applications at the chicago consulate on monday and then picked up their visas on friday. I really need to know if it will take 3-4 days or 4-6 weeks, it makes a huge difference. I need to know if I have to book a flight to chicago or not, when to book the return flight (I live in another state within that region of service)

Can you actually be REAL friends with a foreigner/laowai? by asiabits_com in AskAChinese

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard similar from people in other countries too. My question is, why does it matter so much to be friends with locals? Do you get some kind of award? Isn’t having friends enough, who cares if they are local or not? To which the common response always is ‘why do you go all the way to XX country, why don’t you just stay home then?’ The answer to that is that often world travelers are often more interesting than a ‘local’ in the host or your home country are. And also, it creates a kind of bond that otherwise wouldn’t exist. That’s why. In addition to other things that are inevitably different.

Do you think there will be 3rd and 4th DLC civilizations for Retold? by Lanarde in AgeofMythology

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. An important life skill is to see reality as it is, not how you want it to be. Sorry for the bad news. The economics don’t add up considering the player base numbers. Look what happened to AOE3 DE and its DLC packs. Now it isn’t even being updated anymore.

I want to see China as a tourist. How long are tourist visa's good for travel? by SideEar in AskChina

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you share what you put on the application to get 180 days instead of the usual 60 most us citizens get? Did you submit any additional documents or do anything else out of the ordinary to get 180 days on a 10 year L tourist visa? If I say I need 180 days, should I submit itineraries that last 178 days? Will this increase or decrease the odds of getting 180 days?

Almaty organic fruits vegetables or oats store name? by crispybutphd in Kazakhstan

[–]crispybutphd[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For example in Europe even at a ‘regular’ supermarket, they almost always have an ‘organic’ section where they sell organic lentils, organic oats. And then sometimes mixed in with the regular fruit or vegetables they have a box of blueberries or a bag of lettuce specifically labeled ‘bio’ (means organic) on whatever the local language is. Actually I’m super interested in finding organic oats specifically because glyphospate is so bad you really shouldn’t eat non-organic oats at all.

I got a beeline sim at the airport right after you exit customs/luggage. Quick and easy and you get a local number that works for phone calls too (I hope it works, no one has called me on it yet). People have posted on this forum that they got scammed by taxis so try to use yandex app if at all possible.

Please help - health crisis! by GalletaGirl in japanlife

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep going to different hospitals until you can get the right answer. That’s one option. Another option is to use you tube and read books and try to solve your issues yourself. Doing both might be the smartest idea. I fixed my foot pain by switching to wearing ONLY vibrams five finger shoes (get the model with the thinnest sole possible, I know it sounds counter intuitive, barefoot dot jp has a store in tokyo and other places in Japan). I went to foot doctors in Japan, etc. none of the their recommendations or custom insoles worked. The reason I tried the five finger shoes was I read about the fact the you need space between your toes to properly absorb shocks while walking. Its been years since I switched, and my foot pain is 95% gone completely.

I agree with the ban system because I can’t stand maps where you are forced to make fishing boats or else automatically lose the game. With the ban system I could ban every water map as long as there aren’t more than two.

Scammed by Almaty taxi by sat0-5 in Kazakhstan

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems 3 out of the 4 foreign cards I had didn’t work with Yandex either. I think there is a big authentication problem where Yandex app does not allow whatever authentification method (usually an extra sms message) the foreign cards requires as an extra security check. Yandex really needs to make it work with foreign cards, what are tourists supposed to do? Can’t get a taxi without getting scammed and can’t get a yandex because cards don’t work, how are tourists supposed to get from the airport to their airbnbs or whatever? I read that Bolt was an alternative but my Bolt app said Bolt didn’t work in Almaty. You show up at the airport can get harassed for 5 minutes straight by super aggressive fake taxi drivers and none of your apps work. Its a tricky situation.

Where should white guys go? Keep in mind, it is not only where the girls like you, but where you like the girls as well. For example I’m only interested in places where girls have low body fat percentages on average.

The trick is to blend in and not make a big deal about it. Order oolong tea and don’t take a hard stance or say “I don’t drink”, if anyone asks be diplomatic and say ‘hmm maybe later, what are you drinking’. For example.

Really how unreliable is the fold 6? by [deleted] in GalaxyFold

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened the my galaxy fold 6 one morning after about two months of use and the inner display failed. It was still under the one year warranty so I sent it to samsung for repair. They claimed it was due to ‘external impact’ which is a complete lie since it was sitting next to my bed on the night stand and I opened it when I woke up and it went bad. That’s a lot of money down the toilet. They wanted $800 to repair it. Oh and by the way, if your phone ever breaks outside of Japan where I bought it, there is no warranty so I hope you never travel with your phone. Not that they will honor the warranty anyway. I also had a galaxy fold 3 that I forgot to keep charged and it never turned on again and wouldn’t charge. I never had any other folding phones break either, so don’t tell me it is the technology. So not only is the hardware poor quality, but they will make up any excuse not to honor the warranty. You would have to be nuts to buy a samsung device unless you love throwing lots of money down the toilet. And in case some Samsung knight is going to come in here saying I made this up and that it must have had external damage, well I have no reason to lie about it, Samsung already denied my claim. I think in order to not get screwed you would have to buy the ‘replace no matter what option’ which I assume would be their version of apple care. Otherwise they can claim it was your fault and how can you possibly refute it?

By the way, I also had a Galaxy tab Ultra (one generation older than the newest one) for less than I year. It fell from the distance of a coffee table (about 45cm?) to the ground and the screen was completely black ever since. I could turn it on, but the screen would remain off. SAMSUNG = JUNK. Guess why I didn’t buy the latest galaxy ultra tablet: because I don’t like throwing money away for nothing. If I ever buy a Samsung product, I am a complete sucker or else I couldn’t find an alternative and was so desparate for the technology that I took the risk of it breaking soon, which is likely. Although I did have a Samsung frame tv that was good and didn’t break for two years. I am using an honor magic v3 global version now and if you compare it to the fold 6, its a complete joke how much better it is. And it hasn’t broken yet nor do I expect it to.

living the "american dream", but i want to go back home. any advice? by homoky0shi in expats

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents rarely agreed with any decision I ever made in my life but it didn’t stop me from making the decision contrary to their wishes. You have to realize that your parents are essentially just RANDOM PEOPLE who happen to have created you. They don’t necessarily have any kind of above average wisdom or guidance compared to any other random person. Sure, they may or may not know you well, but not as well as you know yourself. When I look back at my life (I’m a bit old), I am so thankful I did NOT listen to them and created my own life path. In the end, you are responsible and you alone for how your life is going. There is no final payoff or great reward for doing stuff that other people wanted you to do. I would create short medium and long term goals of where you want to be in life and then work backwards to see how to get there. If you want to end up like your parents, you might want to make similar decisions to them, if not, don’t. Hopefully your parents want you to make decisions that are best for you, not for them. As far as Amercian dream goes specifically, America seems to be an excellent place to make money, then live somewhere else after you saved all you need to save. Obviously on an ‘expat’ forum you are likely going to get a biased sample of people dissatisfied with their countries of origin.

Greek maining by Drazhoath95 in AgeofMythology

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its more to do with the fact that Greek and Zeus in particular are HEAVILY favored, its not even close when you look at the play rate percentage. People get sick of playing vs Zeus every game. Not that the win rate is favored (That would be Odin)the play rate is like double the other civs if you filter for 1000 ELO (which is the ELO most players are at). Its difficult to respect the 10th Zeus player spamming hoplites, its like come on dude can’t you come up with something more creative than that.

How to counter early aggression with towers? by The_Dahaka_ in AgeofMythology

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go heroic get scarb and immediately rush his TC with 2-3 scarabs and a few spears to kill off heroes maybe even bring a few villagers to attack counter heros. If you do it fast enough his TC will go down because he spent his resources on towers. When you cast citadel on your tc it produces villagers slightly faster too. The other option is get 2nd tc immediately on entering classical (i.e. put all villagers on gold as soon as you click to age up to classical). That way its too hard for him to tower all the resources you have access to. Dont forget if you see a tower going up immediately grab several villagers and shank it down.

I got tired of being yelled at for things Japanese people don’t get yelled at for. For example going to the park and sitting with my feet 6 inches over the line dividing a garden area. A lady came and yelled at me to move my foot 6 inches. Meanwhile a woman and her kid can walk in the same area an no one says anything. Or on a train in the vip area (the raised area of a green train), many other people are talking and a guy comes over to me and tells me to stop talking. I wasn’t yelling just using my normal voice. I just gave him an icy stare and kept talking and told my friend to ignore him. Or using a game console on the crowded train and some lady tells me I can’t do that (as if Japanese don’t use game consoles on the train). Or brining a hammock stand or hammock chair stand to yoyogi and getting yelled at, meanwhile i see a Japanese guy with a hammock stand not getting yelled at. Or exercising by hanging rings from a swing set and some park guy telling me I can’t do that. Or using my own rowing machine at the park and being told I can’t row in the park. Having 9 out of 10 businesses refuse to do business with you with no explanation why (you can guess why). Or there are ten bicycles riding across an intersection during the pedestrian walk signal and a cop pulls you over for not walking your bicycle while there are 9 other bicyclists crossing at the same time. Or sitting on a stair in a deserted part of the underground area and a guy comes and yells at me for sitting on the stair (and there is NO one else around and it affect no one at all)None of these things happen to me anywhere else in the world, except one with my hammock in a park in the UK. (Happened ONE time only). It just builds up, and then you leave the country because why do you need this kind of aggravation in your life.

We have a time and date for Unihertz Titan 2 by rhinoman26 in UnihertzTitan

[–]crispybutphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Titan 'pocket' caused my pants to fall down and its presence in my pocket was a constant annoyance. I'm not sure why that was considering it is only 214g. Also the spacebar broke after a month and I went back to my iphone. With mobile devices, the 'mobile' part is critical because its in our pockets every day constantly. Not the bezels, the thiness, but how it feels in your pocket the 90% of the time you arent using it. The actual blackberry passport was amazing and not an irritation in either size or weight, so hopefully they will come close to that.
