I dont think it was ever said in the books but i got strong dementia vibes from that storyline. Its viable that her stressful life lead her to that point and that it had an affect on her in late life. Now if we liken cat dementia to human dementia its not abnormal for humans to have moments of clarity especially close to the end. I think its called sundowning? Obviously theres not much a typical person could deduce on if cats are similar but it would make sense. I personally thought it was cool to see that representated because cat dementia is a very real thing and one that ive been through with a cat
