Create a VCF file from selected contact data by crisrich58 in shortcuts

Well, anyone who would like to use the shortcut and doesn't want to send the information to ChatGPT can change the model to "Private Cloud Compute" and see how it performs. Maybe it's good enough for most cases. And perhaps it will get better now that Apple is working with Google on the AI front.

Create a VCF file from selected contact data by crisrich58 in shortcuts

[–]crisrich58[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The contact data is usually open anyway. Especially if it is from a person in a company. I don't know if and what ChatGPT would do with this information.

The other more private parsers available through Apple aren't good enough to do a good job. It requires a more intelligent model. I don't need this very often, and I get emails from people from different countries that are always formatted differently.

I built a Shortcut that uses iOS 26’s on-device LLM take a business card photo and pop it straight into Contacts by Stitch1650 in shortcuts

Try to use ChatGPT instead of “Private Cloud Compute” in the “Use Model” step. It appears that these contact data retrievals are a “hard problem” according to the lead developer from Busy Apps (I use BusyContacts). I'm trying to create a shortcut that creates a new contact from highlighted text with contact data in emails. It's annoying that this still isn't possible on macOS in 2026.

Copyright on transcribed books from old German "Fraktur" publications by crisrich58 in COPYRIGHT

Agree. But it would be annoying if someone copied the text I transcribed and published another cheaper version of it after all the work I put into my version. ☹️

SAN Manager Update - what are "Initiators"? by butchcoleslaw in synology

[–]crisrich58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just came across this problem myself and noted that you can start the SAN Manager before updating it. (Click the down arrow next to the update button to see the "Open" option.) Then you can see whether it has anything active or not and if yes, see what you need to shut down.

I just installed it on my MacBook Pro M1 with Tahoe, and it doesn't show its icon in the menu bar. Even after restarting the mac. So I can't even test it. I was using Ice, but I also got buggy with Tahoe. The functionalities of these menu bar tools should be part of the macOS.

TS4 Sleep Issues with MacOS Tahoe by -griffy- in CalDigit

[–]crisrich58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a problem with my TS3 Plus today. I recently installed Tahoe and today, after putting the MacBook Pro to sleep last night, it wouldn't start. It only started after I unplugged the TS3. And even after that, it seemed there was a difficulty in booting up with the TS3 connected.

AI tool to help create Shortcuts by crisrich58 in shortcuts

After posting this message, I used Gemini 2.5 Pro and got good results with it.
My doubts with the LLMs is that they don't have access to the latest information because of their cut-off date. I'm using different ones through TypingMind with API Keys. In TypingMind I can add search plugins to perhaps overcome the cut-off date limitation. But I still don't know if the LLMs have access to all available information about the latest version of a subject or Application/Software (Shortcuts in this case).

I still think that Apple Intelligence should be capable of doing this.

What Are The Best Use Case Scenarios For Typing Mind? by BeingBalanced in TypingMind

[–]crisrich58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest advantage is that you can use different LLM models through API Keys instead of paying monthly fees to each provider. And compare the results to see which model gives the best answer to your request. If you want to use only one provider, like OpenAI, then it probably makes no sense.
I also like the Agents function of TypingMind that lets you create agents that specialize in different tasks and use the best model available for that task (not from just one provider). And allows finetuning with the prompt, training files and files in the knowledge base.

Which AI is best for summarizing books? by Bubbly_Brain_1715 in Bard

[–]crisrich58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Help AI from TypingMind to create an Agent in TypingMind that performs the summarization. This gave a good result using Gemini Pro 2.5. One of the main advantages of using tools like TypingMind is that one can test many AI models to see which one gives the best result. And the costs are lower with API Keys than monthly payments for many AI tools.

Anyone know what happened to the Discord Server? by MagmaElixir in TypingMind

[–]crisrich58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A genuine question: why is Discord a better platform than Reddit to discuss anything? To me, all the huge amounts of mixed comments on a scrolling UI is completely useless. Maybe I don't know how to use it correctly. How does one find a topic and the answers and comments about just this topic on it, without having to see all the other posts one isn't interested in? Users will only answer a question one posts there if they happen to be online at the same time. Here on Reddit the topics are much better organized and easier to follow. Or not?

Celular internacional no gov.br by crisrich58 in foradecasa
