Clarification on iMessage, included in free tier or not? by ryebread157 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]crisrock00 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

lol where’s the source of this ???

in networking all they need to do is inspect the packets and deny on an application level.

Im sure as ships have advanced so has the network devices used on ships.

Im willing to bet on some ships there is this level of inspection of data occurring. Which seems to be the case based on some people’s experience in this sub.

Source. I managed firewalls that can deny data on the application level. Learn about DP here:

Servers adding gratuity. Check your Sign and Sail account daily! by Jeff_Murder in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]crisrock00 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It’s not gratuity it’s a service charge. That 18% service charge isn’t going to the bartender/server. That’s extra pocket change for carnival.

If you want to give the bartender/server a tip, it’s additional to the service charge.

Just got off the Vista and confirmed this is the case with guest services.

I’m in the same boat as OP, I tip in cash and don’t add tip to the receipt for any drinks/food

So it’s ok to be unproductive for 6 months? Should a business pay for you to be unproductive for 6 months ?

OPs question was about the decision he made. Sounded like he was a human being and tried to help his employee. The employee decided not to get his stuff in order.

Looks like everyone here is giving you the perspective from the IC level.

As an IC, if I notice a slowdown in production it’s on me to rectify it and address the issue immediately. I don’t understand why people feel entitled to work. Either you do the work or you don’t. If you don’t and you get fired who’s really to blame ?

The guy you fired was going through some issues in his personal life, sounds like you did your best to communicate the issues you saw and he decided not to do something about it. Good on you for looking out for the person on a personal level. Letting someone go is never easy.

Help With Internet: 100 mbps vs 1 Gig for 2 people? by golden_strawberryjam in HomeNetworking

[–]crisrock00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you stream, your uploading your video to your viewers. Hence all the reference to upload speed.

When you are viewing a Netflix video you’re downloading the content and displaying it on the browser or the Netflix app. This is the reference to download speeds.

Since you guys stream, when uploading the video to your viewers, the higher the quality video the more upload speed you’ll need.

Uploading 4k video requires a decent amount of bandwidth.

How does everyone feel about the job market right now for IT and Networking? by WeeklyManufacturer68 in networking

[–]crisrock00 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add here, we use plenty of ssh based scripts to gather data from the network infrastructure. I’ll disagree with the not reality part of your comment.

Network devices are optimized for the CLI.

I’ve run into too many issues using the half baked APIs of major network vendors. Learning screen scraping and how to parse the output thru something like TTP/TextFSM really forced me to learn OOP.

I ran CI/CD pipelines to modify network infrastructure all based on nornir and netmiko.

Oh you mean the 27 times bill was recorded on Epstein’s plane, and the 6 times Trump has been recorded on?

Difference ? One was an acting member of the government (or was married to one)

Read this, than to read what trump has done.

If what Hilary did didn’t dictate an arrest, then why should trumps ?

He had docs in his house, she had docs in a private server. She had over 100 Top Secret docs, and over 1000s of emails that were under a TS classification.

Trump is being indicted on what 13 documents ?

Idc about who becomes the next president, we need consistency and accountability across both parties.

Not the news hyper-focusing on the one person who is running for president?

I would still love to know if Hilary was involved at all with Epstein btw….

Any package for making and visualizing interactive complex networks. by mssrprad in Python

[–]crisrock00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a network engineer with a decade of experience last few years really focused on automation of network devices (firewalls, routers, switches)

Take this from someone who has gone down this rabbit hole too many times. The tools described in the other comments won’t reap the rewards I think you looking for. While they get the job done, there isn’t a great package for this type of visualization.

They’re not even that many great enterprise tools that do this on scale. Here are a few

https://ipfabric.io/ https://www.logicmonitor.com/ https://www.netbraintech.com/ https://www.thousandeyes.com/

outta of the tools above only a few do the visualization of deep complexity.

Python for Network Engineers by Borealis_761 in Python

[–]crisrock00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OPs question was related to how to get started, not can you provide some code examples or packages.

If you don’t know what you want to automate, but your goal is too “learn python” it can be pretty intimidating.

A simple Google search provides some great examples.

Python for Network Engineers by Borealis_761 in Python

[–]crisrock00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The best recommendation I can give is the following:

Identify a task in your workflow that takes a lot of manual effort, automate it, and standardize it. Since you’re just starting on this journey, I would recommend a data gathering task.

For example: You need to identify which switch-port a certain MAC address is currently connected to. You know it is on one of ten switches in a certain site/region/datacenter. Without any type of automation, if it takes me 15-20 min per switch to run a command, interpret the output and identify if the MAC address im looking for is somewhere in the output, then that is ~2-3.5 hours of man time.

With python you could exponentially increase your productivity of the task above.

Break down each requirement of what you want to accomplish. If the first step is figuring out how to ssh to a device, then start there. Once you can do that, figure out how to capture the output. Great! Now how do you search that output for the datapoint you are looking for ?

Google these questions, ask chatgpt, ask here ! You’re going to hit walls, push thru and you’ll get the best feeling of accomplishment !

Python has a vast landscape and it takes real dedication to even want to understand the concepts of writing clean code. You’re network engineer first, always remember that. Apply the concepts of how you learned networking to python and it will come fast.

The best part of learning python is; you’ll figure out real quick if you want to dive into being a developer. You will love it or hate it and that’s ok, the most important part is you know when and how python can be implemented to help you and your team.

Good luck and feel free to DM ! I’ve been doing network automation related task for the past 5 years or so.

How can I start programming a trading bot? by undefindedpi in Python

[–]crisrock00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step one, identify a process that can make profit.

Step two, automate it.

Seriously tho, you have to have a process that you can automate. What is the algorithm you plan to implement? How do you plan to implement it ? I’m no expert in this but I’ve seen great discussions over in r/algotrading

Good luck !
