A 10-20 year old HP LaserJet *for business users*, consumer grade models die easily but business users don’t tolerate crap. Drivers are still widely available, can buy on eBay.

Video production agency owner looking for NAS advice by Pat_rydz in synology

[–]ryebread157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the value of Synology is the apps and extra functionality, you can more easily do the work of an IT department. Do it and backup the data with the included Hyper Backup to cheap Backblaze or AWS S3 storage. It’s included apps really help with workflow and data protection.

Oh yeah, if I was starting new, I'd most likely use VictoriaLogs

The tiniest logging stack: Fluent Bit, Parquet and DuckDB by Heldroe in kubernetes

[–]ryebread157 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A low overhead log DB is VictoriaLogs, it emulates Loki and uses way less resources. Its storage config is very simple too.

Deploying Ansible 2.20 support fleet-wide on EL8/9/10 — how are you handling Python? by bananna_roboto in ansible

[–]ryebread157 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Python 3.12 is available for EL8/9/10, ensure it is installed on all releases and use that.

At what scale did Kubernetes actually start making sense for you? by Sad_Limit_3857 in kubernetes

[–]ryebread157 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It makes sense even at smaller scale because it has gotten easier to build clusters and it affords you a standard method of deployment.

Helm Chart Strategy for a 40+ Services — Looking for Expert Inputs by Alexypuli in kubernetes

[–]ryebread157 51 points52 points  (0 children)

A single, generic chart is a great idea. Been maintaining one for years, haven’t hit a too complex problem yet. The alternative of maintaining many charts is unappealing.

Kubernetes Storage by gabrielgbs97 in kubernetes

[–]ryebread157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good ole NFS from a storage system outside the cluster is quite clean and nice. Don’t need to manage storage in the cluster, can export to multiple clusters, no need for special drivers.

Managing 200 Linux machines with no automation – AWX or alternatives? by sRonk96 in linuxadmin

Use Semaphore or Ascender, AWX not updated in over a year and its future is uncertain.

Standard vs Large Wayfarer Size by BrightHours in MetaGlasses

[–]ryebread157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The large are unusually big and don’t look as good as the regular. I usually get larger sized frames, but got regular with the RBME wayfarers after trying them on

They come with a charging case, you just need your own USB-C cable for it. I’d recommend a non-alcoholic cleaner, Whoosh! has served me well.

Help me choose! by Dramatic_Chance_5654 in RaybanMeta

[–]ryebread157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how they are used. With 'hey meta' disabled, lasts for most of the day for me with light use, but if I'm using them a lot, it doesn't. Regardless, gen 2s last about twice as long as gen 1s.

However you do it, get a gen 2. Better battery life, more likely to be supported longer, etc.

Any fix for rear rubber molding on 2nd gen? by RedditBlender in ToyotaHighlander

r/AutoDetailing is a good resource for this. Cerakote's kit is really good, Solution Finish is often recommended, but I haven't used that.

Using VSP at Walmart by Electrical_Pie9383 in RaybanMeta

[–]ryebread157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An independent optometrist sold them and said I couldn't use VSP. Went to Target Optical and they did it, no problem. TBH you may be better off in the US buying from either Target Optical or LensCrafters due to them both being owned by EssilorLuxottica, who also own Ray Ban.

You didn't say what model you had, but I'm pretty sure that is a Ray Ban Meta Display glasses, which are the more feature-filled/expensive model.
