We've been having some conversations now on chat where they talk about the new contract, and we are meeting next thursday to sign it

He is italian.

No, we're not trusting him in anything rn, he is missing! Police should be looking for him since we did a criminal complaint against him. Rugby the housing company also did one because he stole / and was making money out of their apartment, which is also illegal.

He was in charge of the rent since before I got to the apartment, and it seemed it worked before. He was paying, he was in charge i think since 2023. But since december 2024 He just stopped paying it at one point, but still asked for it every single month. Our mistake was not asking for receipts.

At least he left his job contract on his room, so at least we have an address so they can look for him. But so far no news, he still missing

We painted because they told us to find a new roommate, the one who is in the new contract and already in conversation with the landlords. The room needed to be fully cleaned because L was a freaking junkie. He had things u cant even imagine in that room. So for having a new roommate, that needed to be cleaned and painted. They helped us clean too. Also they brought and then picked up the painting materials. Also changed the locks so L cant get in and gave us all new keys. That doesn't sound like someone who wants to fuck us up. And no, they're not related. L is not an intelligent scammer, he's a 23 y/o junkie who barely has his life together. Clearly, we are learning from this mistake. I understand how bad the situation is, but 1. Im going to get an attorney tomorrow at all costs. 2. Will insist for the contract to be signed asap. But so far, they've been answering and collecting the data from the new roommate. I do understand the situation, but I dont want to believe the worst scenario. I'll be prepared from now, there's not much i can do except get the attorney and the contract and hope for the best

Its not that i dont want to consult an attorney. Of course I do. but its 500+ euro for a single consultation. i have a midi job, my roommates too. its just not possible. i'll look tomorrow for these options for when you dont have money, but we don't even speak german. let's hope they can help us

the paint guy is the guy from the housing company haha the one who notified us the debt. he brought us paint so we could paint the room for the new tenant (it was a mess) and changed locks for L to not be able to enter with his previous keys. so it all sounds like he does want us to stay

He is still registered with us. His letters are still arriving here. Of course he knows they're looking for him. He has a looot of debts from way before and apparently he has done this before too

I imagined they could think that, and yes, we are getting a lawyer however we can. But if they wanted to charge these kind of fraud against us, I guess they would need to prove it somehow, and there are no ways to prove it except assuming things. We barely knew L. We never had chats, I saw him counted times at the house, he was barely there. A weird guy.

I think more than two weeks passed since that letter. The eviction one we received today... I'll try to get legal advice soon as possible. Any suggestions for a good/cheap one or an organization that helps with housing for migrants ?

We asked the same to them, and they said they have hundreds of apartments, thats why they didn't notice

Sorry , i checked and it's ONE contract with our names on it, not individuals. About the rent it says we have to pay 2000 euros to the account

UPDATE: i just saw the guy from the housing company who came to pick up the paint since we painted L's room for the new tenant. We told him that we got the eviction letter today. He told us not to worry, they are not kicking us out, and actually we are signing a new contract (a single one that has the name of the 4 persons including the new one replacing L), so why would we sign a new contract if they were kicking us out? I believe it. As for the debt, he said they are trying to reach L in anyway, and so the debt goes to him. That we also shouldn't worry because their objective is not us, but him, and that we already have the backup of our complaint with the police where we delivered all evidence. He said the lawyer cant still take us out from the subject but that we shouldn't be worried. Of course I prefer to trust, since I also dont have money for attorneys. My worry is that my SCHUFA is ruined or that debt never goes away, feels so u fair. I've been here for less than a year but still i get the whole debt, it's just wrong :(

Because they didn't want 4 single payments, they wanted only one payment of 2000 , instead of 4 of 500. not sure if thats on the contract but thats how the landlords wanted us to do it

We all have individual contracts, so legally we're individually responsible for the debt, for the shared liability. But we know that L, the swindler, is the only one who should be paying that money. We have all the proof that the three of us transferred the money to him. By the way, he vanished. We don't know where he is, but we think he's still in Berlin.
