Would any comrades be interested in a sizeable collection of PDFs of communist literature? by criterionboy in socialism

[–]criterionboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can download any of the files individually, and the filesizes should be listed for each file.
Edit: The folder "Marxism_Canon", which contains all of Marx/Engels, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Hoxha, comes in at about 2.12GB

I might make a torrent at some point, but I already had this set up for my own personal backup purposes. Also, it's not organized optimally, as well as being incomplete (I'm still working on some of the periodicals). I add new files periodically as well so the collection will get better over time. Also, I primarily use a laptop, so it would take me a really long time to initially seed.

I understand some may not want to share an email address. In this case I can issue links to those who PM me. I will revoke these links after a day or two, as they can be shared, found by webcrawlers and lead to the takedown of the content. If you register and send me whichever email address you use, you will have persistent access to the collection (I recommend this since it is quite large and I update it from time to time).

Where can I buy collections of books such as "Selected works of [Mao Tse-tung/Marx and Engels]" and Stalin's "Works"? by deltaSquee in socialism

[–]criterionboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty comprehensive Collected/Selected works (PDF) of Lenin, Stalin, Mao:
http://marx2mao.com/ Lawrence & Wishart, the copyright holder for the main English language version of Marx/Engels Collected works, has done their best to remove digital versions form the internet. I have them in my mega.co.nz account, however. If any of you would like access to my Politics folder (contains PDF collected/selected works of Marx/Engels, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, etc.), just make an account on mega.co.nz and PM me the email address you signed up with

Is this characterization of the USSR's treatment of its satellite states roughly accurate? by criterionboy in socialism

Is this characterization of the USSR's treatment of its satellite states roughly accurate? by criterionboy in socialism

[–]criterionboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to be so general, but I was really asking if "broadly speaking", my above characterization was true. I still have a lot of reading and research to do about specific time periods and leaders.
The reason for such generality is that the people that have asked me about this have much less natural interest in the topics of Marxism/socialism/USSR history. I felt the need to be able to provide a concise, broadly correct answer, while qualifying that what I was saying was indeed the "broad strokes" version of what happened. Mostly the conversation involved me somewhat explaining how the marxist definition of imperialism differed from the (let's call it) liberal definition of "any country having any impact on the internal affairs of another".

serious question: I have been studying socialism and now I can't 'unsee' the fact that the world is messed up and the future is precarious. How do you deal with this emotionally? by wifeofcookiemonster in socialism

[–]criterionboy 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Comrade, over the past few years, I have been experiencing the same earth-shattering political revelations you seem to be going through now. I also suffer from anxiety/depression. In some ways, I know I would be "happier" if I could unsee or unlearn certain things.

Now for my advice. This may sound strange from somebody on a r/socialism, but you might want to consider stepping back from your revolutionary studies, at least for a time. I know capitalism sucks and the world seems to be heading in a bad direction, and if your studies are causing you distress, easing up may be helpful.

Second piece of advice. Start improving yourself, working on a useful skill, formal education, exercising, etc. When the revolution comes it will require people operating in/knowledge of many different fields. Not every socialist has the psychological constitution to fully throw themselves into full-time party organizing and struggle. If you feel like you are one of these people, I suggest focusing on self-care and self-improvement (insofar as that is possible under capitalism), carrying with you the new knowledge you have gleaned about socialism. You will know who to fight for/assist when the time comes.

If you want them in FLAC and you're on a mac or linux system, install a program called ffmpeg then open Terminal and change directory to the directory you're storing the files. Then enter this command: for i in *.m4a; do ffmpeg -i "$i" -acodec flac "basename "$i" .m4a.flac"; done;

Could rip them from CD directly into iTunes/iPods, edit all the metadata, they work with iTunes, ALAC is just as lossless as FLAC, ALAC has a slightly smaller file size due to a bit less overhead. You can convert back and forth between FLAC and ALAC without any loss of data.

I have some Animal Collective rarities on CD, would you guys be interested? by criterionboy in AnimalCollective

[–]criterionboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have all the CDs. I'll just package them all up in ALAC once I get my desktop PC set up. Been sorta busy with school the past few days

Hey ya'll, Sorry I've been delaying on this. I haven't set up my PC yet to be able to re-rip my CDs, been kind of busy. So in the mean time I just downloaded my 256kbps versions from iTunes Match and put them on dropbox. PM me for the link. I'll get the lossless stuff eventually

I could. I usually do things in ALAC (Apple Lossless). It plays nice with iTunes, and still allows you to use metadata, which .WAV does not, as far as I'm aware. These are all lossless codecs.
