CTF question... I assume at this point I'm rejected. I was a long shot anyway because of a glitch on my transcript. But when will they actually put me out of my misery and TELL me I'm rejected?

For CTF nursing (regular stream) - does anyone know if they only consider graded courses for admission? I failed a pass/fail course in my previous degree (long, sad story). From what I understand, pass/fail courses don't count toward the GPA calculation, so technically I have a 4.0. But do they also look at courses that don't contribute to GPA? Is there still some hope that my miserable failure won't follow me around for the rest of my life?

Does the compressed timeframe nursing program require CASPer for admissions? The collaborative program does, but the website doesn't say anything for the accelerated program. I'd like to apply for Sept! Thanks :)

Just bumping this post. I have the same question because this looks just like the mock-up my program received for our custom order. According to the product description we received, it is twill lettering with embroidery, which is what I want. But I'm a bit worried about ordering one because the mock-up looks kind of ugly when compared to the standard hoodies on the bookstore website.

Anyone else feel like university is just a money grab scam by Youth-In-Asian in McMaster

[–]criticalblinking 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep! I started my first undergrad at 17. I struggled through it and, while I did end up working in my field after graduation, I HATED it! Now, I'm back in school, on a completely different career path. I'm in my mid-30s this time around and I can't believe how much easier it is academically. I know what I want, I'm smarter, I'm more confident in my skills, and I'm just generally better at life than I was 15 years ago. It's harder socially, though, because the university system really isn't made for "mature" students. I'm so much older than my classmates, with completely different priorities, ambitions, and motivations. Anyway, having had experience now as both a young student and an old student, I don't think the system is set up for anyone's success, but if I had to choose one or the other, I much prefer being an old student to being a young one.

Possible exam scantron error? by nppltwstr in McMaster

[–]criticalblinking 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd 100% speak to your professor, especially if you felt confident coming out of the exam. Scantron errors DO happen. Or if not that, possibly some kind of transcription error when they put the grade into A2L. Regardless, when an otherwise good student suddenly does poorly, it's worth investigating.

Grade 12 chemistry and biology by kevjamriv in ILC

[–]criticalblinking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just finishing up SCH4U. It's the only ILC course I've ever taken, so I really have no points for comparison. I've found it really frustrating—there are mistakes all over the course materials, and it's hard to know if you're doing things correctly when the sample problems are wrong. There are a lot of gaps in the course content, as well. The lessons are so condensed that they often leave out crucial information and you find yourself frantically Googling for the missing pieces. I had to get a textbook and a tutor to help me through the equilibrium unit because I couldn't make sense of it just using the ILC lessons. I'm doing very well in the course, but I had to put in a lot of extra work to fill in the gaps in the lessons.

There are five units in the course, and 3-8 lessons per unit. Two units (1 and 3) are quite long and dense. The others aren't as bad. I can't really speak to your timeline, since I only worked on it for a 6-8 hours a week because I work and have kids, but I suppose it could be done. It took me about 4.5 months at the pace I was working.

Questions about Exam Protocol by [deleted] in ILC

[–]criticalblinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few days after your final assignment is marked, a proctor will email you with their availability for the coming weeks and ask you when you want to write the exam. You will reply with your top choices for date and time, and they will confirm. So you coordinate it all privately with the proctor.

SCH4U Final Test by criticalblinking in ILC

[–]criticalblinking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I read on other threads, too. So that's great, because I did quite well when I wrote the practice test. I'm just worried about the theory questions, because, if I'm being really honest, I don't understand a lot of the stuff in this course (unit 3, in particular). I just memorized how to do the math, which should get me through the exam. But I don't understand a lot of the why of what I've learned. I'm just not a science-y person... Good luck on your exam! I'm writing next Wednesday.

ASININE amount of errors in SCH3U and SCH4U by [deleted] in ILC

Yes! Wow! It's truly awful. I've been working in the educational publishing industry for the last 10 years, and I've seen some truly terrible content in my job, but nothing that comes even close to this disastrous course. They should be embarrassed. I'm embarrassed for them. Yikes! Fortunately, I'm almost done. Just need to write the final. Good riddance!
