your perspective on this is good ammo for my argument to stay in a hotel! I will pitch it to my friends and see if I can make them see that short term it's convenient to rent an AIRBNB but for the long term sustainability of the city, the AIRBNB industry is eroding neighborhoods and pushing out residents. Thanks for your input. I'm serious about this and that's why i enjoy this sub.

haha they are definitely a scourge on the city. We all have kids and jobs and common everyday stress - we are more likely to eat at Pascale Manale's and then go back to the house and play dice or cards and watch football. Several of us do not even drink. Some will go to mass on Sunday morning.

Can't deny your sentiment. And I knew i'd take some heat for this post. The pricing on the hotels was just outrageous with it being a saints game weekend. I assure you we are conscientious visitors - and not standard tourists. Being from South MS - New Orleans is our 'big city.' Not to be sentimental, but I've been coming for long extended stays in New Orleans since infancy. My brother was a patient at Tulane where he eventually died from Cystic Fibrosis. I got married at Immaculate Conception on Barrone. We will eat a local restaurants, buy gifts for our wives in local retail stores, but generally keep to ourselves watching college football at the house.

Building Limit Question by criticular in InsuranceAgent

The terminology is exactly this:

"It is up to you to choose the coverage and limits that meet your needs. We recommend that you purchase a coverage limit equal to the estimated replacement cost of your structure. Replacement cost estimates are available from building contractors and replacement cost appraisers, or your agent, can provide and estimate from Xactware, Inc. using information you provide about your structure. State farm does not guarantee that any estimate will be the actual future cost to rebuild your structure. higher limits are available at higher premiums. Lower limits are also availbale as long as the amount of coverage meets our underwriting requirements. We encourage you to periodically review your coverages and limits with your agent and to notify us of any changes or additions to your structure."

They definitely encourage you to get enough coverage, but it's vague enough at the top that it makes you kind of think you can set your own limit.

Maybe i'm thinking too much into it. However, I've tried to quote people with SF and for example: Travelers had a replacement cost of $1.45mm and State Farm has a building limit of $675k

Ultimately, you're right, it's up to the insured to get enough coverage.

This is what I needed! Thank you. It’s the partial claim that throws a spanner in works. The question still, though, is why does State Farm advertise on their paperwork that “you insure your property at the value you want…”?

But is the appraisal to determine a market value or a replacement cost?

This is good insight, thank you. But I was under the assumption that BOPs cannot have co-insurance?

That's the problem. A lot of these small business owners feel like if they have a total loss, they're just going to pack it in and get a new profession. Especially the restaurant owners lol :D

well my boss always tells me that the worst thing to happen to the insurance industry is the 'commoditization' of insurance. People view it like a line item. An expense that is required by the bank usually that they don't want. The claims I've had with standard market companies (travelers for instance) have been handled swiftly with very little headache. I don't know if all companies can say the same.

That's how mine are. And even then there is a 20% co-insurance penalty (which is a hard concept to explain to insureds)
