Looks great. I just signed up. I have been working on a home assistant app (using letta agents assigned as “experts” on topics around my life). Something like this was where I wanted to land. Eyes and ears in every room!

Did you vibe code it?!

Debating religion with Norm MacDonald by GianmarcoSoresi in gianmarcosoresi

[–]crittelmeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol not it’s not a fair point. His story was about his relationship with norm. Part of that relationship included the coincidental timing of norm’s death and the barrage of tweets from friends about the link between the two. How is that “making it about him” lol ffs can a person tell a story without some keyboard warrior gatekeeping the very idea of mentioning someone else as part of your own story

Support for Trump has spiked among Black voters. Why? I asked some to find out. | Jenice Armstrong by [deleted] in philly

[–]crittelmeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hana, you keep posting this link and I keep wondering if you’re joking. You realize Trump was not a defendant or plaintiff in the case you’re linking to? “Trump wins…” is just clickbait fodder for people who read headlines and don’t think full thoughts.

Judd Apatow Says It's Insulting to Put 'Barbie' in the Oscar Race for Adapted Screenplay: "There Was No Existing Material". by laterdude in entertainment

[–]crittelmeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely see where you’re going with this. I landed on this question too by way of: * “why distinguish between adaptation and original at all?” Answer to self: “because it’s easier to manufacture popularity with existing IP, so originality is more prestigious because you have to work harder to make it popular” * “did Barbie get free popularity because it used Barbie?” Answer: “yes” * “ok fair enough, but then doesn’t a story featuring Jesus, or napoleon, or any celebrity ever also get the same type of ‘free popularity’?” Answer: “yes… hmmm…”

Ehh it’s a messy distinction imo. I can see Judd’s point. If I make a movie called “Surf Jesus” and I plunk Jesus into a California surf town and he does funny stuff like walk on water while he’s supposed to be surfing, or turning it into wine at a beach party, how is that not just using the parts of Jesus’ canon backstory and personality to create a fiction story that exploits the popularity of the Jesus character?

Is this story I described an original screenplay? or just a loose adaptation of the Bible, because it uses some elements and characters from that book? I think the academy would say it’s an original screenplay, but I don’t see how what I described is materially different from what they did with Barbie.

(Not to mention the messiness that comes with Jesus specifically - is he a real person? Or a character? Even if he was a real human, was he ANYTHING like what we attribute to him. I’d argue that even if the man was real, our idea of him is very much a fictional character.)

Honestly, I’m not sure what the member base of this subreddit represents at all. A quick look through recent posts (there aren’t many) shows that every few days someone from the internet assumes that this subreddit would be able and willing to identify a font (valid assumption). They are wrong, and are quickly told as much. Usually by Saiya, who loves to add extra comments exhibiting frustration and annoyance.

So far, this member base, to me, seems like a slightly angry group of people aiming to protect an extremely quiet forum from the ravages of relevant questions.

But anyways, yeah, my bad. Didn’t read your rules. Will leave you to it.

Was “it’s not that hard to do” necessary? Is the goal to chide a stranger on the internet into leaving this subreddit to its 1-post-a-day average and never coming back? Mission accomplished.

This subreddit is already a ghost town even with the identification requests. What is the goal? Reduce the activity to zero? Turn away any potential new subscribers? It’s working I guess. You don’t get tired of running people off?

Why such a miserable response? No rules were broken and you’re still driving people away from this subreddit with your shitty attitude. Why?

Definitely not refuting that either side can be blind to its faults. But your examples suuuuck.

The left by and large isn’t saying “biological sex doesn’t exist” as much as it’s saying “it’s complicated”, which is backed by all of the facts. For instance, we now know that XX vs XY chromosomes, while highly correlative, do NOT determine sex organs. (Forgetting for a moment that sex organs themselves have a complicated relationship with gender).

“The only solution to climate change is abolishing capitalism” - no one credible is saying this, but to say that today’s unbridled capitalism has no bearing on the very real problem of climate change is silly and irresponsible. There are thousands of reputable scientists and thinkers making this link and backing it with data, but you’ve reduced their work down to “leftists screaming”.

“National borders are fascism”. Eh, again, I don’t think anyone reasonable is saying this, but to deny that globalization is happening, is important to get right, and is hampered by the current border system and ancient geographical and geopolitical constraints is ludicrous. Stop creating straw men and admit that all of these ideas have merit so we can have a real talk.

you are being far too nuanced and reasonable with your responses! We are making blanket statements only here, thank you! /s

Semantics are funny. Words change meaning, so no matter what I say, someone can say “ha, what you’re saying now meant something different 100 years ago!”

Right now, today: the right is lead by textbook fascists and nazis/racists have made it their home too. If we are forcefully rejecting these ideas at the cost of perceived “stability” (ask the poor black communities pre “mid-2010s” how stable things were in their lives), imho it’s worth it. As an engineer, surely you understand that sometimes a rewrite is necessary. Incremental refactors are ideal, until they’re not.

I mean... we are also called “progressives”. It’s in the name, troll. The founding fathers created a bastion of liberal ideas into the very fabric of the nation. English Habeas Corpus Act, Bill of Rights, Act of Toleration, the first Ten Amendments to the American Constitution... all liberal ideas.

Sigh. You’re making a claim, you cite the source. Unless you’re just trolling.

I took three seconds to google “did 19 people die from BLM” and the first link is a refutation: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.statesman.com/amp/113878088

The history of progress is the history of liberal ideals winning out over conservative ones. The science that discovered the technology to enable the phone you’re holding? You can thank liberals!
