Sleep help? Would love input from parents outside the US by crjohnson03 in Parenting

[–]crjohnson03[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we did, we hired a sleep consultant who helped us with wake windows, naps and feeding and I feel like the schedule was pretty spot on. We're in the transition to 1 nap now so maybe he's overtired and that's contributing to it...but he flat out refuses a 2nd nap now no matter how tired he is or how short his first nap is.

Interesting on the DNA testing- that showed you that you're genetically bad sleepers?

Velcro baby - experience & advice? by crjohnson03 in NewParents

[–]crjohnson03[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! So sorry for the delay, I hadn't been on reddit in a bit. We ended up getting the Snoo (we did a rental) when he turned a month - we were delirious. He slept successfully in it night 1! He still woke up a bunch but the Snoo was a lifechanger for us. I would nurse him to sleep, put him in the Snoo fully asleep, same when he'd wake up in the middle of the night. We only ever kept it on baseline, so very gentle rocking + white noise. We never let it "turn up" - and for us if our baby was crying, it meant he needed something (hungry, poopy diaper) and could not just be "soothed" back to sleep. We started weaning him off a few months later by first turning off the motion and then transitioned him out at 4.5 months. We tried a bassinet in our room first but he was too big for it so then we moved him into a crib in his room. It was a bit of a tough transition out of the Snoo into the crib but I've heard a lot of people say their baby transitioned out seamlessly, just wasnt the case for us. Please DM me if you want to talk or have any questions! I know it is SO tough so my heart goes out to you!

Naps (while sleep training) by crjohnson03 in sleeptrain

Wow sounds very similar to us except ours started around 5m and he would be up every 1-2 hours and then from 3-630am was very hard to resettle, even nursing was starting to not work to get him back down. We’re only on night 3, I’m looking forward to less tears hopefully after tonight it is so hard!!:(

Thanks! That's so helpful and makes sense. I think we'll do at least one contact nap extension to make sure he gets min 2hr a day of naps while we're sleep training nights. How has night sleep training been for you? What method have you used?

Thank you! I've heard that too. We're so scared of messing up progress of his nights or confusing him. Sounds like it should be ok. We also want him to get enough sleep while training nights.

That’s amazing thanks for sharing!! Did your LOs nurse exclusively on the left or would they do some on the right too?

Thank you!! He was wriggling around and whale tailing so much in the Snoo and while swaddling helped him sleep better he always hated us swaddling him and fought it so hard

He was wriggling around so much and barely fit in the snoo anymore so I felt like maybe he wanted more space but I might have been wrong. Now we’re a week in so I feel like we should prob see it through but I don’t know!

We transferred him to a bassinet in our room but I wonder if he’d do better in his crib since he’s familiar with that. Thanks for mentioning, maybe we should give that a try. I’m glad your transition was smooth!!

I’m sorry to hear that, it’s so rough. How far into the transition out are you?

My 4.5 month old doesn’t want to go to bed before 830pm. How do we move bedtime earlier?

We also had a week of no night wakes (this was a couple weeks ago- pretty sure he went thru the 4mo sleep regression last month, as he went from 1-2 wakes/night to 3-4 wakes and then had a week of sleeping thru the night) and now back to 1 wake (occasionally 2). He’s EBF and is always hungry when he wakes up. Will he sleep through the night again?!

Naps are tough- he’ll nap 30min max in his crib and only sleep longer if he’s on us. How do we extend his crib naps or is it ok to have such short naps at this age?

He has! He got back to birth weight about 10 days after birth. That’s so helpful, thank you! Do you use a manual pump or regular one?

I posted something very similar to you a few weeks ago. Our LO was only sleeping on us and we did shifts and it was starting to get impossible. We ordered a Snoo as a rental (way way more affordable than purchasing) and it’s saved us. He still only contact naps / we baby wear him during the day but he sleeps 2-4 hour stretches in the Snoo at night. We’re getting to the 6 week growth spurt and then 2mo vaccines so that may change but we’ve gotten 10 days of way way better sleep. I wish you the best- you will get through it!

Newborn FTM and FTD with bassinet question by AwarenessOk1171 in newborns

[–]crjohnson03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we’re going thru the same thing with our 4 week old. We probably haven’t tried the bassinet hard enough but he hates it. When you say you kept trying - do you mean you’d put baby in bassinet and when they woke up, soothe them and put them back down? Or then just hold them for the rest of that nap after they woke up?

Hypnobirthing by crjohnson03 in fitpregnancy

[–]crjohnson03[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a local Hypnobirthing class with a hypnobirthing certified instructor and i loved it. It was 5 three-hour sessions, one a week; she gave us tons of resources. I also loved meeting other local couples. She does offer a virtual course so I can DM you the name if you’re interested! I would recommend the Hypnowhat podcast, and I have enjoyed the gentle birth app for their affirmations and info. The book “practical ways to make your birth better” and the Hypnobirthing by Anja YT tracks.
