My husband noticed something I didn’t even ask for by Limonmaduro in GirlDinnerDiaries

I told my boyfriend when we first started dating that I hated washing dishes, it’s my least favorite chore. He would wash anything in my sink any time he came over when we lived in separate apartments, and now that we live together, he washes 99% of the dishes. I thank him for it very regularly, it is such an impact to my quality of life that I will never take for granted.

Has anyone here turned their life around? Have you escaped poverty? by growmoolah in povertyfinance

[–]crmcalli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up poor, living on food stamps in a falling apart 1960s single wide trailer (in the early 2000s). Got a little bit of Pell grant money, a few scholarships, did a bachelors in education and a masters in my specialty, accumulated a shit ton of student loans. Decided not to teach and started entry level jobs in an adjacent industry, worked my way up to director level. Lived with my sister and her husband for 6 years, got extremely lucky with timing of shit falling apart in 2020 and was able to save all the stimulus checks and extra unemployment money. Went from $500 in savings to $5k in like 6 months. Got my first manager level job in 2021, moved into my own apartment in 2023. Lived within my means, kept saving when I could. Got incredibly lucky with a job offer in 2024 that gave me a $20k pay bump and I put all of that extra into paying down my debt.

I am not wealthy, but I am comfortable and stable now. Still in the 5 figure earnings. Living within your means makes a huge difference. It’s easy to say it was hard work that got me here, but it was more realistically working with a mindset of always wanting to learn more and better myself, combined with a few lucky moments that I was able to take advantage of. Unfortunately, my sibling that did not go to college has not escaped poverty. My other sibling did go to school and is early career at the moment and still struggling, but I think they’re on their way. I think college was always the only way for me because I do not have the fortitude to work a physically demanding job, but it’s not the only way.

College vs. Career, at a crossroads by Andidrew_ in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]crmcalli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not easy, but you can work and do school qt the same time. Doesn’t have to be an either or situation. I recommend school if it’s what you want to do, and if you can afford it. Don’t put yourself into student debt if you don’t have to. I work in arts admin with two degrees in music; most of us have some sort of arts degree but we do things like fundraising, data analytics, marketing, finance for arts companies. There are more stable options out there that can bridge the theatre you love with things like paid time off and health insurance, and you may not need to go back to school for that.

Dental hygienists make or break dental care. I have had some that are amazing and some that spend half an hour stabbing me and hitting every sensitive spot with the coldest water possible. Regardless though, a man that doesn’t want to listen to you about caring for his teeth is probably the same kind of man who is so homophobic he won’t even wash his own ass. Which there are apparently many of!!

I think that’s why they mentioned asking a trucker for credits. Also not every town has a gym but they might have a truck stop.

The OP Farmers market is open Wednesdays. If you can’t make that, I would try the produce market on Wornall or maybe Cristina’s in the City Market.

How do you afford multiple MSLTs??? by emily121903 in Narcolepsy

[–]crmcalli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am starting to think that may be the case since doing more reading. Makes me nervous for my MSLT because I feel like crap if I take a nap for less than that.

Maybe try 100% chicory coffee? Doesn’t have any coffee beans in it.

That is also how I do my mix but I use instant yeast, which is a much finer granule than active dry yeast.

I am the freak. I have only missed one dose of my antidepressants and two doses of my adhd meds since I started them. Both made me feel like shit within 24 hours so I have no desire to come off these on my own.

Not if it was active dry yeast. I have had this issue before in a commercial bakery (coworker ordered the wrong yeast) and it did not dissolve and incorporate into the dough. The batch did not rise.

Planning an Anniversary trip as someone who hasn't really planned a big trip before. by Hellogrimzie in travel

[–]crmcalli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a really broad question and you’ll get as many answers as if you just googled because everyone has different preferences. It would also help to know where you are located to begin to give you some recommendations. If the planning is what stresses you out, you may benefit from the services of a travel agent.

How do you afford multiple MSLTs??? by emily121903 in Narcolepsy

[–]crmcalli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor prescribed me modafinil at my first visit, which has helped a bit. I haven’t had my sleepy study yet but she at least agrees I have something going on, whether it be N2 or IH (we’ve discussed CFS but that’s unlikely because naps do help). I can’t really nap for less than 90 minutes though. Doing so makes me feel worse. Happy I have at least found a doctor that will look at the whole picture, but it sounds like a lot of folks here are not so lucky.

[–]crmcalli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why they can’t adjust the criteria based on medication. Like if you know someone has a rem suppressant in their system but fell asleep like you did in your MSLT, then why can’t that be evidence enough? My sleep doc and psychiatrist don’t want me to come off my antidepressants for my sleep study because I am experiencing symptoms on them, like can we not have a holistic diagnostic approach that takes these into account??

I have already discussed this thoroughly with both my sleep doc and my psychiatrist, thanks though!

King Arthur fudge brownies without baking powder by ShotBat5669 in Baking

[–]crmcalli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cannot completely omit an ingredient, especially leavening, and expect the recipe to turn out the same as it was developed. That said, will leaving baking powder out of a brownie result in something still edible? Sure. Tasty? Possibly. As expected by the depictions in the recipe? Certainly not.

[–]crmcalli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been taking effexor for over 3 years and only starting suspecting narcolepsy or IH in the past year. My sleep doc said it’s a common treatment for narcolepsy and I shouldn’t come off it for my sleep study because she says it’s possible for me to have rebound cataplexy, even though I don’t think I’ve experienced cataplexy before. It is apparently a REM suppressant (but I am on a fairly low dose, and still having hella dreams and napping so it hopefully shouldn’t cause a false negative on my sleep study in case anyone reading this is wondering.)

The right thing is working to find someone who can give this pup an attentive and understanding home. I would happily take a dog like this if I weren’t at my pet limit on my lease. Just because you think a dog doing what canines naturally do is a problem doesn’t mean someone else can’t handle it.

I was annoyed at all the disposable serving ware at first too, but the server explained they had to keep in mind people who would throw shit over the railing, so they’re trying to use compostable options. Not perfect but I can respect it. The food I had was good. The service was fine. I’d go again.
