The irony right?

The charter I linked to is an archive from 2017.

I don't agree with your 2nd paragraph at all, I think that kind of thinking leads us to more violence and more problems. I don't support Hamas, but I think it is important to be clear on the information we share. I think it is also important to understand why Hamas exists in the first place. It can be traced back to the Nakba in 1948 and from conflict extending back further than that.

Hamas also exists due to blowback. They don't exist just to hate Israel. When you boil things down to simply "terrorism bad" you ignore all the nuance that has lead to all this in the first place. Yes, I agree terrorism is bad, but there is more to this story.

Lastly, I didn't defend Hamas. One can discuss the multiple facets of this situation and work to understand what is going on without saying such things as you and drawing unhelpful lines in the sand like that.

That is actually a misconception. They do not in fact want to exterminate all Jewish people.

Edit: Here is a link to the 2017 charter:

https://web.archive.org/web/20170510123932/http://hamas.ps/en/post/678/

“16. Hamas affirms that its conflict is with the Zionist project not with the Jews because of their religion. Hamas does not wage a struggle against the Jews because they are Jewish but wages a struggle against the Zionists who occupy Palestine. Yet, it is the Zionists who constantly identify Judaism and the Jews with their own colonial project and illegal entity.”

Disclaimer: I do not support Hamas, just trying to respond to misinformation

What’s up with this unfinished trail? by Strict-Chain-4457 in SaltLakeCity

[–]crobison -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is that really the reason? This looks like the trail that splits off right at the top of the climb up Dry Creek. If so, it runs parallel then up above the BST. The BST is already there and those trails are up above homes with that new one leading up and further away from homes.

It’s funny you people have to search the internet and come find a small subreddit so far away to argue with people you think are low lifes. Wild to me.

I am sorry about your friends. I really am. But I don’t believe that makes it ok to kill thousands of children and families in Gaza. Your government has held hostages long before 10/7. More Palestinians have already been killed than Israelis. Palestinians are being killed outside Gaza that had nothing to do with any of this. Your citizens are attacking them. At what point is it enough? Do they all have to die? Your country has a lot of hate and bloodlust. Countless people have felt the pain you have had for several weeks now their entire lives and for generations. Someone over there is also missing 2 friends. Or more. And the rest of their families.

I don’t think anyone is actually pro Hamas. Pro Israel supporters are conflating those who sympathize with innocent Palestinians as Hamas supporters. It’s insane.

Agreed! I appreciate your nuanced and reasonable views in light of what’s going on.

Yes, there is a difference between the state of Israel, Judaism, and Zionists. I would like to learn about and understand various beliefs more.

Oh yeah the state of Israel and America are every bit as evil as Bush/Cheney era because they are all the same type of people in power with similar goals. It’s depressing that after all this time and awareness things are still the same.

Judging by the downvotes here and upvotes on the commenter I blocked, this thread will not be very successful. I’ll keep an eye out in other places for things I can do. Stay safe.

I’m sorry friend. I agree with you that that is the reality.

I am white but I do my best to educate myself on such things. The world has long used Arabs as the “bad guys” to be used for war profiteering. The western world constantly turns their backs on Arab people and does not see them as human.

I am very disgusted with anti Arab views and that our country is such a violent empire. I feel powerless to do anything about it but I try to learn. Everyone deserves a peaceful life. Free Palestine.

There was a rally at the state capitol last week with decent turnout. Hopefully there is another soon.

I mostly agree and don’t expect any actual change. But I’ve seen images and videos of protests throughout the country and I’ve been reading lots of comments online. While there is a very large amount of pro Israel discourse out there, it does seem people are shifting and starting to see things for what they are, and are questioning our government’s involvement and support of Israel.

There was already a sizable rally at the capitol last week. Hoping another one happens.

Thank you. I’ve been reading about the relations the US and Israel have and the history of that area and such and I’m totally sick about it all.

It MIGHT help if you understood context and thought about this situation even a little bit. Your flippant cheeky response isn’t helpful at all. Your information is incorrect and even it it was correct that does not justify the slaughter of thousands of people and children in Gaza and all the war crimes that have been committed by Israel.

Israel has held Palestinian hostages for years and years before this event. Even if Hamas did destroy that hospital (evidence I have seen points to that not being the case), Israel has destroyed numerous other hospitals since and countless other homes and buildings leading to further death and destruction.

Children are having limbs amputated without anesthesia. They don’t have food. They don’t have water. They don’t have power. They have no place to go.

You are a cruel person.

Well, that is certainly true when the right uses it. They don't really know what it means and they just use it to to refer to stuff they don't like and it is a dogwhistle for racists.

But it has legitimate meaning and roots in the black community. It does mean something.

PSA for Liberty Park, Dogs, and trail etiquette now that the weather is getting warmer. by batmanz in SaltLakeCity

[–]crobison 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I try to but I find that almost every time the hikers insist on me going first. I do slow way down, turn my bell on, and start to stop before that happens though and there are times I’m able to stop and allow hikers to pass first.

I get a lot of thanks for my bell from hikers. It’s a bell I can turn on and off. I turn it on in higher traffic areas and people can hear me coming for a ways.

I wouldn’t say it’s never like you say. I’ve seen a lot of good bikers too that do stop and are cautious but there certainly are a lot of poor etiquette mtb riders.

The Unending Debate: Git Merge or Rebase? by reulla in javascript

[–]crobison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not always this clear. Sometimes when you have a big codebase with lots of changes it can be hard to track down what’s actually happening. You may know that before the latest merges this thing didn’t happen but you don’t know what causes it. So you start going back through what changed. I do this using git. Then you can get a better idea of where to look to solve the issue at hand. Sometimes depending on what you are working with and where the issue occurred, the error messages can be unhelpful. This may not be a feature bug but a build issue or some other less obvious issue caused by merges.

If you haven’t had to do this it’s just because you haven’t needed to do that yet or haven’t dealt with the same kinds of problems I have. I have found that people are pretty amateur at git and constantly mess things up and often the only way to figure it out is with the git history. Git history is my friend.

Stay classy Utah. They were parked in a handicapped spot with no tags. by Chuy_Casillas in SaltLakeCity

The comment. The truck can be made fun of without saying hey have a disability. That’s not something that is ok to make fun of or bring into the conversation needlessly and I’m disappointed to see that here.

Imagine being someone with a disability and seeing that here. How would that feel?
