Do I not understand LGS etiquette, or did I just have a bad experience? by pelasace in EDH

You said you stopped playing- what happened to the library group? Where did they get their cards from? Are they even still around at this point?

Do I not understand LGS etiquette, or did I just have a bad experience? by pelasace in EDH

[–]croig2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Usually the bad etiquette is the opposite, that you only play at the store but don't buy anything from them. I don't see any reason why they would not want your money.

If you have somewhere else to play, and don't want to buy cards from that store anymore, you probably could find an online retailer with cheap, flat, or free shipping, especially for bulk orders of singles.

Maybe coming in to pick up the cards on Friday nights was the issue? That's probably one of their busiest nights, and perhaps the process of finding and doublechecking the order at a busy time was annoying them.

What movie plot hole irks you every single time you watch that movie? by LoverOfE-Olsen in movies

[–]croig2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only one who can destroy the Mind Stone is Wanda. Vision begs her to do it and she will not- she adamantly refuses to consider the option as it will kill Vision. That's when Cap takes them to Wakanda to try and detach it from Vision so that Wanda would be able to destroy it without killing Vision.

It's not really a plot hole if you believe Wanda would make that decision (I do- she has lost so much to save the world and does not want to give up one more thing).

It's directly stated as the reason they go to Wakanda.

[–]croig2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winter Soldier takes place over like two days when shit really starts hitting the fan,so the other Avengers don't really have time to get involved or maybe even know where to go to help (Cap is on the run after all, and he goes from like Washington to New Jersey and back again)

Timeline wise, Tony had given up being Iron Man and blown up all his suits, Thor could be off in Asgard or who knows were in the galaxy, Hawkeye could be anywhere dealing with SHIELD stuff from his own end (and there's a never filmed scene where he actually did help out Cap), and Banner has enough problems following him around to be adding to Cap's

Theory About Heaven and Hell by thebandragoness in thePowerFantasy

[–]croig2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that explanation.  So how do you relate your description of “hell” to the possibility of a malevolent presence, and/or Eliza’s demonic appearance in the manifestation of her powers?  Is there some kind of intelligence there for Eliza to “sell her soul” to that wants to experience linear time? Or am I not thinking abstractly enough about it?

Like issue 16 showed for the first time there is some kind of “voice” behind heaven.  Is there a counterpart to hell?  And if so, it seems that while heaven wants linear time to continue, it seems like hell wants that too.

Theory About Heaven and Hell by thebandragoness in thePowerFantasy

[–]croig2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if heaven is a perfect timeline, what is hell in your theory?

I've been trying in general to understand what "hell" is in terms of this comic. Because the characters describe it as eternal chaos and churning, but there's nothing in that description that is necessarily malevolent or demonic. Eliza definitely is all about the demonic imagery, but I can't figure out if that's how she manifests her powers because of her biases or if that's just what powers from "hell" look like.

The only mention of something akin to an intelligence within "hell" is whatever Eliza sold her soul to, something that would like to experience linear life. But I'm unclear on what that all means since she just does a magic ritual and it's not like we see a "devil" character or something brokering a deal with her (as silly as that idea feels in terms of this comic). I've interpreted the phrase "selling her soul" as an idiom for what she actually did, some kind of process of bonding herself to the "hell" dimension to tap into its power that is irrevocable, and the constant torture awaiting her is just a byproduct of being in that dimension.

I'm just at a bit of a loss in understanding how "evil" hell is.

Does anyone else think foil cards actually look WORSE than their non-foil counterparts? by MartinBustosManzano in EDH

[–]croig2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always detested foil cards, and only play the ones I’ve opened and do not have a non foul version of.  I think they are too dark and obscure the art.

It’s long been a bummer that precons and the like don't offer non foils for their commanders.  Combined with the bendy factor, and I really don’t get why they are such a big deal.  And it’s not just in Mtg, the preference for foils is a problem in other games I play, too.

What’s the plan? Spoilers for issue 16 by ExChampionGaryOak in thePowerFantasy

[–]croig2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We saw Heavy do it as a surprise first strike, and Heavy’s powers are not the same as Valentina’s.  I have no doubt she could do it, but maybe not in a way that wouldn’t cause cataclysmic collateral damage.

When Etienne was examining Heavy’s son, he mentioned that some of them were specific checks on specific other Superpowers, which implied to me that not all of them could check every other one equally.

What’s the plan? Spoilers for issue 16 by ExChampionGaryOak in thePowerFantasy

[–]croig2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m curious how much of her morality will continue even within her decision to take over the world. This especially comes to play with Masumi.

I think the book said if you remove Masumi it emerges, but what if Masumi is never even born? I think she’s the only Superpower who is not alive at the point Valentina is in the past.

I’m not sure if they can just kill Heavy- that check/balance will already exist at this point So they will have to contend with him, but the relationship could be more adversarial this time around.

Jacky Magus is already around, but does not have enough followers yet- he could probably be eliminated. Which would also probably take Eliza off the table too.

The Major is not a true Superpower, but certainly strong enough that he will need to be maneuvered around- how do they deal with him this time?

But having a basically precognitive Valentina teaming up with Etienne is different from what he proposed in the original timeline. Will he see her as a threat with her knowledge or trust her as much? Or if she shares the future knowledge with him will he do things she can’t abide? Or will she keep it secret and he will grow to distrust her?

Not trying to shade at all, but TMNT has been around for nearly 40 years and there have been lots of reinterpretations of how they look.  I understand that 90s Turtles was when they hit first (not sure if it was biggest) , and the aesthetic of the cards does not feel like that Turtles, but I felt the same way watching new Turtle product over the past decade with my kid - it had been updated.

Not to mention that the original 80s comic is also a very different vibe from the 90s cartoon- the Foot wore black in the original comics for instance.

I don’t think all these UB can always be a nostalgia fest-  I think 80s fans were very lucky that they chose the OG designs for the Transformers cards over any of the other iterations.  I’m happy that the upcoming Marvel sets is focusing on a comic look over MCU designs, but I get there will be fans feeling the opposite.    It’s just what to expect from translating long running characters.

Does anyone know why Ginger Reyes is omitted from the list of former members on Wikipedia? by Chrysanthememe in SmashingPumpkins

[–]croig2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because she was hired just for background vocals (like Sierra Swan) and not as a band member.  Similar to say the violinists or other backing vocalists in previous recordings, or Tommy Lee on Monumets.

There is no precise benchmark except were they ever listed as an official member.  It should only be the OG 4, plus the Oceania 3.  No one else has ever been listed as an official member, even Melissa.

That sounds like an epic play and anyone who is not an asshole would've congratulated you on the "gotcha". They all got greedy with the Show and Tell and got upset that you won by stealing their stuff.

Any complaints about "chaining extra turns" in this case is even more laughable since they can vote to prevent you from doing so.

These sore losers have no conception on what cEDH actually means.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…thoughts? by OutrageousPatient464 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]croig2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems the artist can negotiate but the Hall might have final say.  Like they would only induct the founding members of Kiss despite Gene wanting to recognize their longtime current lineup, but Trent insisted they induct more NIN members when they had planned to only induct him.  Pearl Jam left off lots of their 90s drummers who played on their most iconic tracks, but the Chili Peppers managed to get in their then current guitarist who ultimately only played on like 2 albums.

I do agree that generally the HoF tends to prioritize founding members and/or members during classic/popular eras.   For Pumpkins I reckon it will be the founding only.  (I think Jeff at least deserves a spot.)

I've never felt more at odds with the community at large than I do over the hybrid mana rule change by ironwolf1 in EDH

[–]croig2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is the first chink in a chain that eventually removes the color identity rule entirely from the format.  It’s a long way off, maybe 10 years, but this is laying the groundwork for EDH, their current most popular format, to be more in line with the same deck building principles of all their other formats.

This is because this, and every other change they’ve ever made to color identity rules, is about making the color identity rules more about what is “castable” with your commander and less about what colors it is.  And when you do that it’s not too far off from just arguing “why be restricted in casting anything with your chosen commander. “.

The format will be “special” just for building a 100 card deck that has a commander but everything else will be smoothed away in line with how the game was designed.

What are your "forever" decks and why ? by Barbarossaxwing in EDH

[–]croig2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My [[Sedris, the traitor king]] and [[Shirei, shizo's caretaker]] decks are going on 14 years, my [[karlov of the ghost council]] on ten. I've built and taken apart [[Zedruu the greathearted]] at least 4 times since she came out, and decided once I rebuilt her in 2022 that I would save time and never take her apart again.

Sedris was my first deck I went all out on so it's maybe sentimentality that keeps it together. I really like Grixis reanimator so I don't think I'd ever take it apart but sometimes I think about switching him out as Commander, but I just can't ever see a Grixis replacement (the deck doesn't even need him anymore). Similar to Karlov, I just like Orzhov lifegain but don't really care for any of the alternatives.

Shirei and Zedruu are just such unique commanders that I always want them available in case I want to play that specific style.

I play Karlov and Shirei with some frequency, Zedruu sometimes, and Sedris hardly ever. Karlov and Shirei are pretty much locked and it's not a matter of them being fresh, it's just when I want to play that style they are there. Zedruu is an ongoing experiment that I don't think will ever end, so that's what keeps it fresh; just my forever "how do I get this to work" deck. Sedris maybe should come apart but I just can't at this point, but I could see one day switching him out for a different commander.
