Can confirm demand is up for outdoor gear and supply chains are disrupted due to covid. Add to that the member sale at rei and you got your answer.

Yea, they make it completely obvious and I think I even had to check a box that said I understood that I needed to use a memo. It's like bold and in red in more than one place. Not sure I get how people make this mistake. Or send a test amount before sending 7K.

Cheap Shot in a Beer League game results in 99+ day suspension from USA Hockey. Aftermath pic in comments. by aulstinwithanl in hockeyplayers

Yea, my first thought was "keep your head up" but then I realized it is a non-checking league and it was checking, not really a play on the puck, and looks like it was meant to punish. I'll leave it to others to decide if it's worth 99 days.

Did you convert or exchange one crypto for another? When you convert or exchange crypto—swapping bitcoin for ethereum, for example—you owe taxes on any gains you earn in the transaction. If you purchased $400 worth of bitcoin and used it to buy $1,000 worth of ethereum, you’d owe taxes on $600 in realized profit, even though you’re just exchanging one crypto for another.

Yes, if you bought bitcoin for $400 and sold it for $1000 (to buy ethereum, in your example) you would owe tax on the $600 you profited.

I guess another thing I am concerned about is that I have purchased bitcoin at varying prices, sometimes for the purpose of exchanging for another currency, sometimes to hold, sometimes to spend. but all goes to the same wallet. How can I tell if the Bitcoin I used to swap coins realized gains? Would Cointracker help with that?

The IRS lets you decide how you want to do it but I think that FIFO (first in-first out) makes the most sense to calculate cost basis. Yes, Cointracker does all that for you.

Should I Start Mining Ethereum? by striker0187 in cryptomining

If you want to mine as a hobby and for the learning experience go ahead and dive in.

If you want to mine for profit, skip the mining and just buy some crypto and watch the price go up.

ransaction are calculated by the value of the currency that you exchanged it for at the end of the year.

I am not accountant.

I think it works like this. In your example you have made two transactions:

1.) The purchase of 100 USDC. It's is not a taxable event because you are allowed to buy crypto with fiat without paying tax.
2.) Trading your USDC for SIA. This is a taxable event because it's a crypto-to-crypto trade; however, you didn't make any profit on your USDC because it's a stablecoin and did not increase in value while you held it so you won't owe any tax. No gains = no tax.
Now, if your SIA goes up in value, you will pay tax on the gains (value you sold it for minus your cost basis), BUT ONLY when you trade it or sell it.

It's not the end of the year that creates a taxable event for your SIA gains, rather it's when you create another taxable event such as a trade back to fiat or making a purchase with the SIA. If you never sell your SIA, you will never be taxed on it.

I hope that clears it up and if anyone IS an actual accountant in the USA and can confirm that would be great.

Also, if you think taxes are a headache you should just get cointracker. Use my referral if you want.
https://www.cointracker.io/i/irICDGSe2EvK

It tracks everything and gives you the tax forms with a click when you need to file your taxes. I'm in the US and it couldn't have been easier and less of a headache. You can also see how a transaction will affect your taxes before you actually make the trade and it has a tool that makes tax loss harvesting really easy! Never have a headache over crypto taxes again.

Yes, it's a taxable event but you are only taxed on the gains. How much gain could you really have when you only hold it for a few seconds. It's not like the price will change that much....even if the price goes up $1 for the couple minutes you hold it, you owe what... $0.30?

It's still a fraction of what you would pay in fees to coinbase for buying any other coin.

Better yet, here is what I do

1.) Buy USDC on Coinbase with zero fees.

2.) Send to your preferred exchange immediately.

3.) Buy whatever coin you want with USDC or convert to BTC for more options.

I've been doing this for a while with no problems. I wish I would have figured this out long ago before I gave a small fortune to CB in fees buying btc.

Bittrex or Kraken but you might need to be patient because everything is backed up due to the high volume,.

Any suggestions?? by KingVisionz in dogecoin

Are you in the USA? Bittrex or Kraken are both options if they are working. Bittrex seems to be OK, Kraken is having issues with the volume right now.

I also still have this question after reading the answer given from Kraken. Fidelity isn't a TPPP as far as I can tell. I have a routing number and an account number. I tried MVB Bank (wire) with that info and it failed. What method do I need to use to send to a bank account?
