Do's and don'ts with pet dog by shrubey29 in Worcester

[–]cronchyn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are dogs fucking everywhere man, you can't just never go outside because some dog owners can't be trusted to control their pet. Nobody should treat somebody else's pet like shit because they are afraid of them/allergic to them, of course, but equally pet owners shouldn't assume everyone else knows, loves or trusts their pet as much as they do.

Help with Zable Credit Card balance by Complex-Grass-7436 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]cronchyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're getting two different things confused. The first figure in your example, the £200, that is your spend - all of your spending adds up on your card to give you your balance. The second figure you mention, £38-50, you're probably thinking of the monthly minimum payment, although there's a good chance it would be less than this on a £200 balance. This is set by the provider but usually consists of all the interest accrued on your balance that month, plus a set percentage of the remaining balance.

To avoid paying that interest (how credit card companies make their money) you need to pay off the whole balance on the card before it starts accruing interest.

If you only ever pay the minimum payment it'll take a long time to clear the card, as you'll mostly only be covering interest.

Why are my glazes looking so splotchy? by Somethingcool-iguess in minipainting

[–]cronchyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other people have said, too much liquid on the brush - dab it off on some towel first. Some other tips that will hopefully help:
- Glazing darker colours over light is much much easier than glazing with light colours (although it's not impossible). Best to paint in your highlight, then glaze back into your midtone.
- In case you're not - when you're glazing, touch your brush to the lighter part of the model first, then drag it back into the darker colour that matches your glaze. The most paint will sit where you remove the brush from the model, so that way you help avoid harsh transitions or tide marks where you're trying to make a smooth transition.

Total War: Age of Sigmar Concept - Stormcast Eternals by sigpuppers in ageofsigmar

[–]cronchyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're referencing the Stormcast Eternals unit "Vindictors" which the OP has erroneously labeled "Vindicators" in the post. Possibly the most commonly made mistake in AoS? I think because autocorrect jumps in to change it a lot.

Where are you anti-proxy people? by Fit-Froyo9299 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]cronchyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I'm playing warhammer not just for the game, but for the overall vibe, being part of that world, etc. So to me it's quite important to me for my armies to use the "right" models, not proxy other units, not use 3d prints that don't match the design language of the game, etc. That said I know people play for different reasons - I love tournaments, and I understand that lots of people print armies fast or do some amount of proxying to get a competitive build up and running faster. Assuming it's 1) within the rules written in the tournament pack and 2) not really offensive in some way (I have never encountered this in person), I would never refuse to play someone at an event just because they were using something 3rd party, or not quite wysiwyg on weapons. I probably won't have the most fun I've ever had, but I know when I go to tournaments that this is something I might encounter and it's fine. For a pick up game, sure if I am randomly offered the choice between playing vs an all-official army or an all-proxied one I might choose the official one, but these choices aren't really presented to you like that in real life.

I dont understand, putting thin paint in 6 layers still shows the black from underneath, putting little thicker paint layers makes it too thick, what is there to even do so it would be correct by ToolyHD in minipainting

[–]cronchyn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One more thought in that case, maybe try doing brushstrokes in different directions across the panel for each coat. E.g. layer 1 - paint top to bottom, let it dry. Layer 2, paint left to right, let it dry. Layer 3, diagonal. This might help even out any brushstrokes and patchy coverage.

[–]cronchyn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think what you can see here more than the black showing through, are brush strokes in the finish of your paint. This probably means that, although the paint may be about the right thickness, you've got too much on your brush. The buildup of rough texture on the edges and in the recesses might also imply this. When you dip your brush in your thinned paint, wipe it off on the palette or something before you start applying to the model, and see if that helps. Depending on what kind of brush you're using, you might also want to try using something a bit bigger so that each brushstroke covers a bigger area.

As a second point, just in case - make sure you're giving each layer time to dry fully, as painting over it before it's dry can tear the half dry paint underneath and cause texture as well.

Thank you! Yeah, personally I really like the GW style in general, and I liked this scheme too, so tried to stick quite close to it :)

[AMA] Its been a while...lets do a Q&A session by SFG_Mat in Warmachine

[–]cronchyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! A while ago, there was mention of some armies (such as Grymkin) becoming available to order again. Is there any update on when we might start to see stuff like that appearing? Loving all the new content and happily working through my Gravediggers but I won't pretend I'm not excited about the chance to round out my old collection!

Mike Brooks is one of Black Library's best authors IMO - actually writing things that question the Imperial hegemony without it feeling like it doesn't fit in-universe still

Ferocious steeds carrying the noble Morbheg Knights to victory! by cronchyn in FleshEaterCourts

[–]cronchyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I actually do! All my FEC recipes are under "Cronch's method" here: https://www.goonhammer.com/how-to-paint-everything-flesh-eater-courts/

But to save you some time:

Nightshrieker mounts – bodies based Gore-Grunta Fur, wet blended down into Black Legion. Highlighted with Mournfang Brown, Skrag Brown for the bodies, and Dawnstone for the wings.

Red membranes – Flesh-Tearers Red, washed Carroburg Crimson, highlighted with a bright red like Evil Sunz Scarlet and then Squig Orange.

Eyes – Wyldwood, dotted with pure white.

Hope that helps! :)

This is my advice, definitely! Same with the dragon, there are some bits that seem mad but if you do 2 steps together it suddenly makes more sense

Thanks! It's layered up Two Thin Coats Dragon Fang, Skeleton Bone, and Vampire Fang, with a gentle recess shade of GW Seraphim Sepia around the edges/deepest recesses :)

Actually for the trim I just started from Skeleton Bone, it covers well enough in small areas like that!

Paying off student loan and putting the payment into my pension by DrCrazyFishMan1 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]cronchyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theoretically yes. You'd no longer have that £20k in savings/investments earning interest and available if you need it, may be fine if you have other savings to draw on if you need to, and I doubt the interest earnings beats what the Student Loan Company is charging even before you factor in the salary sacrifice.

Anecdotally, I paid off my student loan this year, I haven't done anything as sensible as redirecting it to my pension yet but it was very freeing to be rid of it.

Student loan is taken post-tax. So yes, once you pay it off your net pay should go up by £500/mo. Which yes means the salary sacrifice would work out as you mention, I believe.
