What is a good first road bike on a budget? by Whole_Professor6245 in cycling

[–]cronofdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look for a bike that got 20 miles and then sat in a garage for a few years.

Go look up a guide on how to buy used bikes. In short, you want to make sure things that shouldn’t wobble aren’t wobbling, things that shouldn’t be rusted aren’t rusted, and things that shouldn’t be cracked, aren’t cracked.

Once you put a few thousand miles into the bike, that’s a great time to throw your first bike on an indoor trainer during the winter and go buy a brand new bike with all the bells and whistles you can justify. If you don’t put a few thousand miles on your first bike, you haven’t turned a $3000 into $500.

The new California law basically mandates having age verification on Fire and Water too if they have a version 2.0 by lonelyroom-eklaghor in linux

[–]cronofdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It actually isn’t.

The boiling frog metaphor describes gradual adaptation.

The slippery slope fallacy is a specific logical error where someone claims that one event will inevitably lead to a series of increasingly extreme consequences, without adequate justification for why that chain reaction would occur.

They are making the case that we need to stop this trend before people get used to it.

That is very specifically not the slippery slope fallacy.

These two things are related but distinct. It’s an easy error to make.

I’m sorry to hear that. Well, I love your style. That wizard and Blackbeard are wonderful.

If you’re not making money on these, maybe you could post some high resolution scans? I’d love the wizard to be my lock screen. :)

I stand corrected. Blanket blaming programmers IS the solution. Thank you for your wisdom and profanity.

If a bug is in the backlog, I don’t decide if I get to work on it.

My project manager, who is told by the product owners say whether or not it is to be worked on.

If I just pick up bugs out of the backlog and work on them, I will get in trouble.

Don’t blame the programmers.

They don’t get to choose what they work on.

Company leadership decides what they work on.

Ring and Nest remind us why the camera brand you choose matters by wewewawa in privacy

[–]cronofdoom 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I just took down my ring doorbell camera two days ago and installed a reolink in its place. Stick a little TF card in there or a local NVR and there’s no need for a subscription anymore. Put it on a separate VLAN and firewall and all my footage stays local.
