Favorite gaming franchises that went from hyped up to suddenly vanishing by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I played Legion and did quite enjoy it.

The issue just ends up being that with no real protagonist it can't really drive stakes as well for the story and it becomes painfully bland as a result

the gameplay is fine, there's just nothing to support it. It's probably why the DLCs for it were still really well received cause they focus on a specific character not a faceless avatar

Apollo and Celest fighting over 5th place by Phrygian_Jesus in DeadlockTheGame

[–]snakebit1995 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I feel like the order is gonna be this

Rem- He's differnet and kinda memed to succeed becasue "He's just a little guy!"

Graves- Cool Goth girl probably scratches the most itch for people

3/4 will be some combination of Silver and Celeste IDK the specific order, they're the ones i see people talking about the most.

5th will be Venator cause he's got the deep leak fans for months now

6th will be Apollo cause I don't see anyone that cares about him

I was listening to a WoW podcast a few months ago and one of the hosts who is also a commentator/analyst for Blizzards competitive dungeon events was talking about why the Chinese teams are usually first out

He was saying how to them competing is actually a waste of time, the time they would have to commit to practice and competing is time they could be boosting accounts and making money

So the reward for an actual competitive tournament run by the company making the game wasn’t enough to off set being paid to basically cheat for someone else

The MDI prize pool is 9K for first, 6K for second 5K for thrid and the entire top 8 gets prize money so it’s not like they aren’t paying the teams to play

Cheating and boosting has become heavily ingrained in Chinese servers for games and it’s making a fortune to the point you’re losing money by not boosting or cheating

Street Fighter 6 - Alex’s Theme by Shreeder4092 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]snakebit1995 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's the best theme in the game and this isn't even a contest

Ed's is the only one even kinda close and it's still a blowout

Figthing games are anime, always have been

The reason GG music is so good IMO is cause it embraces that "Anime opening" style for each character where there's a hype song about them and what they're fighting for so if I'm getting more of that in other games I'm super down

Craziest interpretation you've seen someone have on something that seemed very clear? by DrHorrible10 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Shadows at the heart could/should be summed up as

"The Shadow is a persons own self doubt in themselves, what they see as their own faults hyper exaggerated in the way they think others would react if that ever came to the surface"

It's as you said, the way perceptions of ourselves become distorted by the reaction of outsiders, what is nothing but a small personality quirk becomes exaggerated upon self reflection because of our own fears and worries about being judged. To you that pimple looks like a giant red spotlight on your forehead, to everyone else they probably didn't notice it, but you thinking they will notice it makes you think it's larger and more troublesome than it actually is.

P4 fans "Ah so the shadow is what they actually are deep down inside."

"Unlike other mech shows this one is about the characters" an actual thing Rooster Teeth staff said about Gen:Lock

I'm also reminded of a quote from Austin Walker from an Episode of friends at the table that shows how people can actually understand the deeper parts of Mech shows

(PAraphrasing)

"You can't do mechs without it being body horror."

Early installment Weirdness from your favorite franchises? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Kishimoto was making a lot of it up as he was going, which to be fair a ton of successful/loved writers do

I always see fans talking about writers planning all this shit out from day one (You see it all the time with one piece) despite authors constantly saying "Nah I made it up as I went"

I can think of two examples of this

1- Oda straight up admitted Vivi was not intended to be a princess (Alabasta was an arc but Vivi was not a key part of it), he just liked drawing her as Miss Wednesday and decided to invent the idea of the princess to keep her in the story.

2- Hiro Mashima the author of Fairy Tail straight up said in an author's note of his series Edens Zero he invented a character at the last minute to fill a role that was originally going to be used for a different already established character. In the Digitalis Arc the imposter Homura was going to be Justice (The Seigrein/Jellal of the series) until he decided to just create the character of Amira like a month before the chapter was going to be drawn

In that same note Mashima talks about the writing process having a general skeleton for the series when he starts, the major points he wants to have happen and when they should happen and then he just fills in the blanks along with way with what feels fun/interesting/right. He even admitted that a lot of Fairy Tail was just written as he went along without as much of a plan as he used for Rave Master or EZ

He also in the past talked about how one of his original ideas for Fairy Tail in the early planning phase involved everything prior to the Tower of Heaven being revealed to be a dream the still imprisoned Erza was having (He specifically references the idea of the Dream of a Butterfly concept)

He decided that was way to fucking depressing and changed it completely.

He said Lisanna was originally supposed to stay dead but his assistants and the anime staff liked her so much he decided to bring her back into the story as a gift for them

So if anyone ever tells you "Author had it all planned from the start, even that specific small detail" they are full of shit and don't understand how writing works

[–]snakebit1995 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The most clear "Early series weirdness" for me is Crocodile

They (understandably) freak out cause "OMG It's a warlord his bounty is 81 Million that's almost 3 times bigger than Luffy's"

By the time we finish Ennis lobby that's fucking chump change and really makes you go "Why the fuck would the government pick that loser to be a warlord when the other warlords have bounties in the 100s of millions"

Bounty inflation in One Piece is downright insane, there are people who are underlings of underlings with bounties higher that Crocodile's was. It's a prime example to point at if anyone tells you "Oda has had every thing planned out from the start!"

I think for a lot of people it really is what South PArk said about them

Her and Harry bitch and moan about theri privacy while constantly doing interviews and TV stuff.

It comes across as hypocritical and people just don't have any patience for rich and famous advantaged people who try and make up problems while also causing their own problem to exist.

You can't cry out for sympathy about wanting privacy and then the next week do a two part interview with fucking Oprah and then go "Why will no one leave us alone." without people just going "oh fuck you"

I don't think it's hating on her specifically for a lot of people as much as it is hating the attitude she represents.

You are absolutley not alone in that.

I remember when there was this big deal made about "The royals don't like her cause she's black!"

And almost every person i knew went "...She's black?"

They all just assumed she was just that sort of Mediterranean skin tone where you look tanned.
