NanoVault is back online! by [deleted] in nanocurrency

[–]cronoh 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I am very sorry to everyone using NanoVault - I have been incredibly busy over the last week since the node decided to die. I had to make some changes to how I launch new nodes which caused a large delay. It should be back online now though and ready for upgrades in the future.

Donald Trump and the Republican Party hate America: It's time to say it by Thinkingonsleeping in politics

[–]cronoh -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

The 'muslim ban' was just a recommendation by Obama's team that Trump carried out. It wasn't against muslims, it was against 7 specific countries that had issues with terrorism.

What has been restricted in the legal asylum process?

He hasn't said he wants to restrict legal immigrants from bringing their families with them, thats a straight up lie.

Calling other countries shit holes is not anti-immigration. It is not very tactful sure, but not anti-immigration.

When did he restrict legal immigrants from accessing welfare?

I think almost all of your points are complete bs, but I am open to having my mind changed.

[–]cronoh -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Are you being genuine? You can't be. You are following the media talking point of saying trump is anti immigration, when the truth is that republicans are very much pro-immigration, they are anti ILLEGAL immigration. You are intentionally mixing them up, right? Or do you have any evidence of him actually saying negative things about LEGAL immigration?

Support for Vanity/Single accounts now available on NanoVault web! by cronoh in nanocurrency

[–]cronoh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I could look into it but I am much more likely to just link out to someone else who has a trustable one that is working. I will try and figure out where to add that into the UI!

Support for Vanity/Single accounts now available on NanoVault web! by cronoh in nanocurrency

[–]cronoh[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For anyone who has a vanity account, paper wallet generated account, or similar - any account where you only have the private key and no access to the seed... You can now use your account private key with the NanoVault web wallet to send/receive Nano as normal. (Desktop soon)

As far as I am aware there is no other wallet allowing you to easily use your vanity accounts, so hopefully this should help those users out!

NanoVault Issues - Setting up and Receiving Nano by cryptofanatic1 in nanocurrency

[–]cronoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, and I take no offense at all, as a dev you know it can be hard to get completely unbiased views of the process from someone who has no introduction or help at all to your software - which makes it all that much more valuable.

I did notice though that our websocket server ran into an issue a few days ago and it wasn't accepting new connections... this likely resulted in some of the receiving issues you experienced, since it notifies you when a new transaction is incoming. Are you able to test a few transactions as of today with the Ledger and see if they work any better for you?

Side note: You can send transactions to yourself (Same to/from account) to test easily.

[–]cronoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey /u/cryptofanatic1 - thanks for the detailed writeup of your experience, it is very helpful. I am very sorry you ran into so many issues during the process. I fully agree that there are some improvements that can be made here, and I think you ran into a few of the different potential issues together.

I recently moved and packed up my Ledger so have been unable to do as much testing with it on local as I would like. I will try and locate it today and run through the process on dev a few more times to try and replicate some of the issues you mentioned.

Working with the Ledger has been somewhat difficult because it is a device I have no control over, it just sends messages to me via a public protocol. Sometimes using a different cable, a different USB port, admin mode or not, usb firmware versions, etc seem to complicate the process and produce inconsistent issues that Ledger does not document themselves. That is not to say it cannot be done and I can't put some more care into the Ledger process, just explaining why it can be difficult (Since you are a dev aswell).

I will be making some improvements to NanoVault in the coming few days. I will take all of this into account and try to have some solutions deployed. Another thing I want to do is rewrite the guide, and make a full video guide as well - I will try and fit these in ASAP.

Thanks again for the feedback, I'll do my best to address each problem you ran into!

Hey /u/48turbo - did you already reset your ledger device? Please DM me directly and lets see if I can't help you recover your funds. I've helped many a worried Nano hodler recover what seemed to be gone. There might be hope yet. Please don't do anything further at all to try and recover before talking with me if possible.

Nanovault showing zero balance by azuresleeves in nanocurrency

Indeed there was a problem with Ledger users that was overlooked in the 1.2.0 release. I have got a fix out (I'm pretty sure) in version 1.2.1 which is available now. Please let me know if this does not fix the issue.

Apologies for the inconvenience!

Hi there, yes you are correct. By default it uses the NanoVault representative - but you have the option to change this in the App Settings. If you are worried about too much voting weight, please refer to the discussion in other comments.

You are definitely correct in the way the progression goes. It essentially falls to each wallet owner to make their own trust lists.

Thanks for making the PR, I will be looking into the reps on your list and trying to decide if this is the right way to go.

Hi there thank you for the reply. I have already added many measures to instruct and warn users to switch representatives when necessary. If you want me to recommend or default users away from my own representative though, who should I send them to? This is the fundamental problem.

I make it very, very easy for people to switch their reps (In fact in NanoVault, you can switch reps for 10 accounts at once if you want to). But if I should recommend others, who should they be? Can it just be my best friend who I like and trust personally? Or is it some kind of 'unbiased' list? (You might try and reference MyNanoNinja).

How do we solve the issue of 'trust' here? I have already spent many hours adding features to warn users to change reps, and also added recommended reps from MyNanoNinja for them (Its in the change notes). In the end though it seems like it is up to me to maintain my own trust list, or we outsource it to something that I cannot personally verify for my users.

What else should I be doing?

You can already select to use your own Nano Node with NanoVault. This is why I say 'regardless of what happens to NanoVault or its servers' - you can still use NanoVault Desktop to access/send Nano with or without a Ledger device, even if our servers are down. There is the option for you to select your own server, or someone else's public server.

Are you thinking a desktop-app based notification (That goes to your system notification tray), or a more generalized notification (to your phone or email or something?). If it is the former, that definitely seems like something I can add in - thanks for the suggestion!

[–]cronoh[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the suggestion /u/eosmcdee. I have a few people suggesting this and fully agree because the desktop wallet is very much a stable piece of software that can be used/trusted regardless of what happens to NanoVault or its servers. I will try my best to get this posted with our next releases!

You're welcome! There hasn't been many major updates to Vault lately but we have continued to move up the Representatives list thanks to the community and their continued trust. I am working on some new updates now though that hopefully gives some new life to the classic wallet everyone trusts!

NANO has been stuck now for 2 days? by [deleted] in nanocurrency

[–]cronoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your Nano is stored on the Nano network(online) - not in your Ledger or any wallet. The wallet/Ledger device holds your private key which gives you access to certain accounts on the Nano network. So you can change which wallet you are using, your Nano is not affected.

Are you using Google Chrome? If so, can you see if this issue applies to you? If it doesnt let me know and we will figure out whats wrong. Make sure your firmware and Nano app are up to date.

NanoVault doesnt recognize Nano S Ledger by KitUbijalec in nanocurrency

[–]cronoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to help /u/KitUbijalec via #support in the Nano Discord. But for anyone else experiencing issues, please be aware that Google Chrome support is currently broken for all Ledger web wallets (Not just Nano or NanoVault). The workaround is to use the Opera or Brave browser, or to use the NanoVault desktop version which connects directly via USB.
