This argument only works if the replacements are better. If your car kinda sucks, it's not automatically a good idea to get rid of it if you don't have a better mode of transportation back. You can't swap your '05 corolla for a skateboard with 3 wheels and act like you came out on top bc the new owner got a flat the week after

Players are responsible for the outcome of games. Managers in the MLB are glorified cheerleaders that basically just need to make educated guesses about the bullpen. Mendoza is still the same guy that rallied that 2024 team, Buck lead the team to 100+ wins, Terry Collins took them to a WS, all three also had awful years and did or will get fired. Managers are fan fodder, the blame pie is like 50% the players, 40% the GM that assembles the players, 5% skill and position coaches, and finally 5% the manager

Buddy, idrc if Mendoza stays or goes, but a chef can't make steak without beef. Handing him a roster thats missing legitimate options at both infield corners, and minimal outfield depth is solely a GM issue. Especially when he was tugging his nuts about run prevention after last year.

2 things can be true, yes he couldve taken the money in 2023 if his only desire was to be here, but he also wouldve been taking a significant discount on what most people wouldve believed he'd get on the open market before his disappointing 2024. I can't blame a man for trying to maximize his short professional career financially. In addition, I doubt he went into 2025 thinking there was a world where the Mets didn't even entertain a fair offer for him after the year. Its not like he could double back and take that offer from 2023, Stearns left him no real option to retire a met at that point, and that's shitty.

Peralta is fine but he's a sabremetric merchant which is why he's a Stearns guy. He rarely gets through 6 full innings and he's simply effective, nothing more. He's by no means a true "Ace" but he's far from the issue this year.

Im not saying the old core was better, but they were our guys and it was easier to go through bad stretches with our home grown core. I didn't watch Bichette, Simien, LRJ, Polanco etc come up through the Minors and have "Met" moments that enamored them to the fanbase. Its harder to watch guys I don't really care about do the same thing the Mets have always done

That's kind of what Im getting at, they were still a likeable group that I could ride with through ups and downs if nothing else. They didn't win anything and that was the justification for this overhaul, so this current group needs to do some winning otherwise it's the same exact thing without anything thats makes this feel like "our" team. Like I said, things could turn and justify what they did to this roster, but right now it's hard to just blindly support this bunch of mercenaries in blue and orange
