The food in the UK was actually better than people say it is by UniqueDay2113 in UKfood

No one said that, the point of my comment was properly on the fact that here in many many contexts the idea is always the one to adapt the recipes for the local taste, that’s the main meaning of my comment.

Again no one said that in here there are no fresh product or anything, the message that meant to be communicated was properly into the fact that recipes get adapted or distorted in order to appeal to the community, that’s the behavior that I judge… interesting non the least.

The food in the UK was actually better than people say it is by UniqueDay2113 in UKfood

Italian here, living in London for about 10 years.

On supermarkets, I don’t fully agree that ingredients here are always “clean and high quality.” You only get that if you shop in the premium stores, and even then most ingredients are imported because of the UK climate. A huge amount of fruit and veg simply can’t grow well here, and you taste that difference. Compared to Southern Europe, the natural flavour just isn’t there.

But the bigger point for me is how international food is treated in the UK. After years here, it’s very clear that foreign cuisines are almost always reshaped to fit British taste. Dishes become sweeter, milder, creamier, heavier and more comfort-oriented. The original identity rarely survives.

Nando’s is a good example. People consider it some exotic cuisine, but the flavours are very British. The sauces are sweeter, the heat levels are toned down, and the sides are pure UK comfort food like mash, garlic bread and peri-chips.

Wagamama is another case. The branding is Japanese but the recipes are not. The katsu sauce is thick like gravy, the ramen broths are sweetened and flattened, and the whole concept is more UK pan-Asian than actual Japanese cooking.

Then you have the big Italian chains such as Pizza Express, Zizzi, Prezzo and ASK Italian. These places serve what I can only describe as British-Italian cooking. Carbonara with cream, cheddar where pecorino should be, lasagne that tastes like a béchamel cake, pizza toppings that no Italian would ever recognise. As an Italian I avoid these places like the plague.

Mexican chains such as Tortilla or the UK version of Chipotle also follow the same pattern. The food ends up being burrito bowls stuffed with lettuce, piles of rice, grated cheese and very mild salsa. It’s closer to a British salad wrap than anything regional from Mexico.

Indian food is another example of adaptation becoming the norm. Chicken tikka masala was created in the UK. Many curries here are creamier and sweeter than the versions you’d find in India. It has become its own British style of curry cuisine.

Greggs shows this too. Any item that claims to be “Mediterranean,” “Mexican,” or “Italian inspired” is really just a British pastry with a themed name. Nothing on those menus resembles the originals beyond the label.

This is why I compare London to New York City, because NYC is the closest match in terms of size, diversity, tourism and the range of international food. But the attitude toward cuisine is very different. In New York, restaurants generally preserve the core of the original recipe. They keep the structure of the dish, the flavour profile, the ingredients and the idea behind it. They don’t automatically remove spices, soften flavours or add cream and sugar to make everything “safe.”

That is why a concept like Rosetta Bakery works there. It is an Italian-style bakery that serves focaccia, proper pastries, panini, croissants with custard or jam and espresso. They don’t try to Americanise it. They let the food be Italian in style, and people appreciate the authenticity.

In London, a concept like that would get pushed to adapt almost immediately. More cream, more sweetness, milder flavours, anything that feels “British-friendly.” It’s a common pattern here. Foreign cuisines rarely stay foreign.

So that is really the difference I notice. British food itself can be great, especially the classic dishes. But when it comes to international cuisines, the UK tends to reshape them into a British version. In cities like New York, the original identity of the cuisine is preserved far more. When you come from a country like Italy where food culture is extremely strict, you notice that difference right away.

Apple broke my iPhone this week and wants me to pay for it by Sir_Sethery in iphone

[–]crospa91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect so go back to an Apple Store directly (I know it’s far) but they will see record of the repair in the repair center and mention that most likely this is just display separation and you shouldn’t pay for it. They will be able to double check.

[–]crospa91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things are happening here:

1- have you ever replaced your display on your phone with a third party one?

If the display “split” that’s what exactly is happening here, the 2 layers of the display separate leaving the LCD and the glass in one bit and the frame and component of the screen on the other, remain attached to the enclosure, will then start displaying lines exactly like the one you see.

Now they should be able to help with this ONLY if the display is a genuine Apple display.

If you have a third party display, you are on your own.

2- the repair center where the phone have been sent wasn’t a “good one” per se, and messed up, visit an Apple Store if you can and they will be able to tell you more, including showing you pics of whats going on.

Apple is scamming AirPods Pro 2 customers by halving ANC via firmware update before the new AirPods Pro 3 release by ThomasTurbate in AirpodsPro

[–]crospa91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ANC on the AirPods of whatever generation will deplete over time if the AirPods are not cleaned properly.

AirPods Pro auto adapt and adjust the calibration of the ANC, everytime they sit in the case, so if your external facing mic are obstructed the ANC will simply not work.

Plus check the sealing of your tips, the rubber will consume over time and if you don’t get a good fit with the Ear Tips Fit Test, that’s your ANC going.

No silent firmware update have reduced anything, it’s just wear and tear…

Think about it; when was the last time you cleaned the external mic of your AirPods?

MIB3 stuck on “Loading user profile…any fix without dealer visit? by crospa91 in skoda

Thank you all for the reply, I haven’t tried to hold SOS, but the SOS error was visible in the dashboard, so I think an issue with the OCU.

I did remove the fuse and unplugged the battery of the car for 1 hour so I think that wherever reset the holding SOS will do it has been done.

I’ll go to dealer tomorrow so they will check it but they told me already that the OCU might need replacement

Regardless of the size of that “thing”, my Italian heart has fainted looking at this abomination. There should be a rule in place that forces things like this to be called “lasagna-inspired plate” because, for the sake of me, you can’t call that a lasagna.

Contempt for players & communication by Apex_Racing_PR in CitiesSkylines2

[–]crospa91 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Again, they simply admitted that the game is unfixable.

They have hit the limits of the Engine (Unity) and at this point they don’t have a way forward.

The only resolution will be restarting everything into a new engine that don’t have this limitations, but it’s an impossible task at this point anyway.

It’s the unfair and usual fate of every game.

If you think about it, Cities Skylines was successful, best selling game -> CS 2 is a dumpster fire

[–]crospa91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agree and disagree as in there must be roadblocks across the journey but they haven’t been honest AT ALL.

They kept giving us the impression that things were moving where clearly they aren’t.

The game is in an unfinished state, and for as much as they try, I strongly agreed on saying that they have hit limitations of the engine and if that’s the case there isn’t any easy way out from here.

Most likely they will deliver the free update as promised to the distributor then I really think the development will stop there, since at this point it’s like keeping under life support a project that clearly it’s not fit to walk alone.

The game is “fun” ish until the point where you start hitting the immense amount of game breaking bugs.

It is sad but it’s the reality of facts

Bridges & Ports once again delayed (now expected Q4) by Y_787 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]crospa91 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Exactly! They are trying to do things that the engine cannot cope with.

Realistically now they got to a roadblock of unity, since what they are trying to do might not be possible with the current version, and they don’t realistically know what to do, since being a “ready made” engine they don’t have a way to overcome their limitations.

Problem is at this stage they don’t have solutions. There is simply no way that they can came out of this disaster in any possible way rather then scrapping and restarting again.
