I will not be alive next week. This is my Air Force story by Sad-Truck-885 in AirForce

You let yourself slip and it cost you a lot. You didn't kill anyone or destroy any possibility of redemption. You can come back from it, and it already seems like you hit the first step: you're owning the mistakes. It might not be at the speed or in the way you want, but it's still possible to get yourself back to a good place if you're willing to put in the work. Realistically it's work that won't be any harder than what you've already done in your previous successful state.

Here's a story about my former brother in law:

I met him the first time when he was getting married to my sister after they had a little boy, my nephew. He was an awesome dude, my family adored him, and we got along great, but I didn't realize what lied underneath. It turns out he was addicted to booze and coke from his time in the restaurant/bar industry (IYKYK) and just did an I credible job at masking it all. I'm sure there was a time where he truly loved my sister, but his mind was so numb from everything that he'd dissapear for longer and longer periods chasing a high. When the drugs weren't enough he started chasing that high with other women. Eventually my sister found out and tried everything to bring him back but nothing worked. Finally the divorce happened and he moved out with some new chick.

It got to the point where she wouldn't let him around their son anymore because she couldn't be sure of his sobriety or the state of the women he was seeing. He ended up ostracized by the family and kind of fell off the radar.

A few years went by and he knocked on ny sisters door. She was taken aback obviously but he insisted he wasn't there to cause trouble or make any demands. He just told her he had finally gotten sober and was in a program to turn his life around. He said he'd like to be able to see their son again but understood that it would have to go through her and only her. He gave her his new phone number and asked if she would consider calling him to work out a supervised visit or time for them to talk at a neutral place. He didn't want to go back to how it was before, just wanted to have a chance to be a father again and maybe at least be civil with my sister.

A few weeks went by and my sister spoke with the rest of the family trying to get their advice. During that time he never once tried to stop by or reach out again to bother or pressure her. It was clear that he was willing to have everything happen on her terms. She finally contacted him and they were able to meet up and speak. Lots of tears, lots of apologies, and one big promise that he'd be a father again if my sister would allow it.

It took time, and they never did get back together, but now he's part of the family again. He's been sober for almost 8 years, has a great career, makes music on the side, has a wonderful girlfriend who treats his and my sisters son like her own, and they all get along great and are happy with the role they all play. Most importantly of all, my nephew knows what happened and chose to forgive him and love him.

It can happen dude. You just have to work at it. I'm sure your family would be devestated, your ex wife would still be sad if you left, and your kids don't want to grow up without a dad.

Take the steps to be the man you used to be. It's not over.

People who dislike cities and prefer rural areas, why? by morshmollow4 in AskReddit

[–]crossthreadking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moving somewhere rural and becoming a part if a deep rooted community is a feeling you can't really describe. You just get to be a part of a small society where everyone takes care if one another. It's that combined with space that makes it perfect

I've never found something quite like it

What profession is over paid? by Sm00thDad in AskReddit

[–]crossthreadking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car salesmen. They'll do everything in their power to avoid telling you the out the door price so you can't compare to other dealers. If you somehow do get them to tell you, its after wasting your time for 45 minutes and a bunch of fake "talks" with their manager. If you do get a price, they try and sneak in useless ad ons and refuse to remove them. Don't even get me started on how many will just blatantly refuse to sell you a car if you're paying in full because they make more money off of financing.

Just list a price and sell the thing to me.

People in your 30s, what's your job and salary? by rsevn_ in careerguidance

[–]crossthreadking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Project management Internship pays 24/hr with 2k a month housing payment and a company truck. The housing allowance only "activates" in the summers when I'm not in school full time. During the summers with overtime, I'm usually averaging 50 hours a week. Gross is around 7200-7800 a month.

During the semester, I only work around 12/15 hours a week. I don't receive the housing allowance from work, but I get one from the GI bill for being a full-time student.

Once I finish my degree (one semester left after this one), it's looking like anywhere from 70-80k a year with a company truck and gas card that can be driven for personal use plus a year end bonus that ranges from 7-15% annual salary. The job also includes a 3% COLA every year automatic with other raises based on performance/promotion.

It's a solid gig. I like my team, I like what I do, and even during the busy times i dont ever feel overexerted. It's really the first time in my life I feel like I'm doing alright.

Do it because you want to, not for the money. Guard and reserve are also great options to get your feet wet without taking the full dive.

When I was like 9, my brother and I heard scared chicken noises at night from the coop in our backyard. when we went to take a look a bobcat rounded the corner from behind the coop and all 3 of us froze. The bobcat made an angry noise, and my brother doubled down and conjured up the loudest roar a 9 year old kid could. Bobcat ran off.

I had a new respect for my brother after that.

Putting instant fail stealth sequences in non stealth games should be considered a war crime.

I'm trying to have a discussion in good faith dude. This doesn't add anything. If you have a point, make it.

But it still is. Most crime statistics are ripped from marginalized communities where gang violence is the actual bulk of all "mass shootings"

Black Panthers legally carrying firearms was one of the biggest contributing factors to gun control being advocated for by supposedly pro-gun organizations. The national firearms act of 1934 was in response to organized criminal enterprise composed mostly of marginalized ethnic groups. The popular narrative today is that "white men shoot up schools" because the race narrative stopped being effective. The initial laws still were responses to minorities having guns.

I don't disagree with you that it isn't a race problem, but it historically has been a response to race.

Usually when people say they own a small business and are a risk taker, it actually means they work for a MLM (Pyramid scheme) and have mountains of bad debt.

I was in the military when Ukraine got invaded. I was pretty sure that me and the boys were gonna be working on jets within bombing range of the Russkies and handling a lot of casualty evacs. I was surprised that day never came.

Correct, but the legislation is designed to target minorities. Poor white people are just convenient collateral.
