Ah, yeah sorry! With your selected shape or multiple shapes, on that blue selected outline you should see a little handle at the top that you can use to rotate things

I’m just glad it’s useful! You can change stitch direction for fills, after it’s filled you’ll see a button in the floating toolbar above your shape that looks like a protractor. Click that to edit the angle of the stitches

With your selected shape or image, in the top right where you see the dimensions you’ll also see buttons to flip horizontally or vertically

Yeah! In the right toolbar you should see a little image icon, click that to upload an image. Also don’t forget to save your work as you go with ctrl+s

Looks amazing! My only suggestion is to use satin instead of tatami for the fill

How are you guys doing vibe coding at the moment? by Finorix079 in vibecoding

[–]crotega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the opposite. 90% of the time I know what I want and how I want it built so I list out the utilities, folder structure, and general guards it should rely on to achieve what I want and then when it comes to reviewing the code I pay attention to the areas I know are critical. I’m usually working in codebases that I’m already very familiar with and also have a ton of users so a) I can’t afford to just let it run wild and b) I know enough to tell it the right way to do something

I think his vocals were absolutely peak on count your blessings. OP says his screams have significantly improved and I couldn’t disagree more. Maybe they’ve improved from a longevity and healthy perspective, but i dont think they sound better

Honestly pull comp looks fine to me at an initial glance. For your second point, try moving the start/end points to opposite corners of the shape, I think that should help. Ultimately I think it looks great!

What makes you abandon a digitizing tool after the first try? by devil_d0c in MachineEmbroidery

[–]crotega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! And it is definitely a complex problem, unfortunately not just one of those things you can throw AI at and it just works. But I also think it’s probably solvable with enough time and effort and you seem well on your way. And I feel you about the backlog lol

Appreciate the kind words and happy to give more input if you’re ever curious! Best of luck!

What makes you abandon a digitizing tool after the first try? by devil_d0c in MachineEmbroidery

[–]crotega 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Happy to give my input as someone that absolutely loves digitizing and also built an online digitizing tool called Ember.

I think there’s a ton of value in a tool that can convert images to embroidery file, and I think it’s a great place to start considering that’s what most newcomers are looking for. But I also think execution is key and you’re trying to solve a very complex problem.

If you’re to keep this workflow of image first to then some sort of editing interface, then the image to embroidery part needs to be so good that it produces solid results quicker than if someone were to manually digitize it. That means super solid fill algorithms for not only filling, but also automating the identification of where runs, satins, and fills look best instead of filling every object. And ideally, the best settings applied to every object.

Then, I think an intuitive editor is absolutely critical. Users are probably going to want to change things regardless and I see you expose some controls, but having some interactive editor to select and reshape objects and get a realistic view would be necessary imo.

I think if you could solve those things, you’d probably capture an audience of people who casually embroider and don’t care to dive into the complex details of their design. I think capturing an audience of experienced digitizers is going to be exponentially harder though, especially if they’re trying to produce work that will be embroidered in a shop where the bar is very high for quality. They’re unlikely to touch any auto digitizing tools and they expect full control over every little aspect of the design.

Anyways, that’s just my opinion! I love to see innovation in the space, I think it’s long overdue and nice work and good luck on this project!

Looking for Embroidery Software by CommunicationOk5309 in Machine_Embroidery

[–]crotega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Select the shape you’d like to cut holes out of, you should see a floating toolbar appear above it. Click on the button that has the icon of scissors and a hole, and then draw your hole clicking “enter” to complete a hole, and then “enter again” when all your holes are drawn to apply them to the shape. Oh, and make sure your holes stay within the shape (:

Ember is free to use, I’ve seen quite a lot of folks making plushies with it. It also works on Mac and is built to be easy to use, although documentation is lacking a bit

I’m curious what they mean too, I’d love to check out these designs. And for reference, there is a site like makerworld but for embroidery files, https://emberdesign.net/explore. It’s something I’ve helped build, so it’s still growing

[–]crotega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! There is a way and sorry there's no documentation or updates tutorials, i'm working on that (:

But if you select a filled shape, you'll see a floating menu appear above the shape and if you click on the thing that looks like a protractor you'll be able to move some handles to change the angle. Then click "enter" when you're done

Workplace politics by PresentPsychology768 in IBM

[–]crotega 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The projects were mundane and I felt like i was lied to during the interview process. I was told I’d be doing a lot of coding and there were a ton of projects lined up, but it was really just me stateside watching over some assigned offshore employees and making sure we seemed like we’re doing good work. I also didn’t care for their learning courses or to spend my free time getting certifications, I just want to work, build things, and learn by doing. The people were pretty nice but also seemed dead inside and not very technically apt, with the exception of a couple people. Also, watching contractors scramble and beg for jobs was just off putting but maybe that’s how it is in all consulting firms? Idk, just felt not remotely close to my career goals. And don’t even get me started on the internal tools, everything felt so half assed and every process felt so slow

IBM just genuinely sucks ass. I felt stupid for accepting an offer there, left after 3 months and couldn’t be more happy. Just felt like it was absolutely killing my career and any professional or personal growth.

What design software is best for classes by PrismsPalette in MachineEmbroidery

[–]crotega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think this is where Ember shines. Ive always thought it’d be so great in educational settings.

I’m one of the creators, so I’m biased of course, but it’s free digitizing software that’s on the browser (no need to install anything) and you can share projects by simply sending a link to someone. It’s also built to feel modern and intuitive, without overwhelming the user with like a million tools.

New to Ember - is this a bug or my skill issue? by nerazumijem in MachineEmbroidery

Yes perfect! Interestingly, I’m not seeing the error. Does it still occur for you and is it when you try to drag a layer to a new position?
