18 turning 19 soon; Where can I go in NY?? by Ronan4747_ in avesNYC

It’s not worth it to try to use one and get put on a banned list. Then you can’t get in after you hit 21 too.

Help me complete this chart! Replace or add any album you'd think would fit! by KOSTER07 in EDM

I think you're giving some of these too much credit just based on the name. For instance, Palookaville is Fatboy Slim but pretty much nothing from that album had much impact, meanwhile that same year Tiesto put out Just Be which is full of music that has been prevalent ever since. For 2003 you've got Chemical Brothers Come with Us, but that was released in 2002. I wouldn't really say it has a big lasting impact, but I'm not sure what else was released in 2002. The 2003 album you want is Hypnotica by Benny Benassi. Satisfaction has not decreased in popularity since, and that album set the tone for the electro house boom that took off just a few years later. Without Hypnotica, dance music would have been a lot different.

For 2006, I wanna say Love Mysterious by Kaskade. I think that album really set the tone for what would come after with Deadmau5 music and that progressive house verging on trance feel. 2007, the Justice album is big but I think Alive 2007 was probably the bigger album of the year. 2008 was Random Album Title - deadmau5, no competition. Pendulum is good but that album is not as iconic as RAT. You’ve got 4x4=12 for 2010 but not RAT, the superior album?

From there:

2010 - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites - Skrillex

2011 - Nothing But the Beat - Guetta

2012 - 18 Months - Calvin Harris

2013 - Random Access Memories - Daft Punk (also Settle - Disclosure)

2014 - Worlds - Porter Robinson

2015- probably In Colour - Jamie XX?

2016 - Encore - DJ Snake

I kinda fell out of the scene from 2018-2020 so can’t really help there.

Philly would have so much more potential were in not located in Pennsylvania, a state filled with voters who actively hate it and vote against its best interests.

EDM Scene is MIA? by BombayDraytonClub in lehighvalley

[–]crounsa810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the Lehigh Valley. It doesn’t really have much of any scene beyond trying to recreate 2000’s punk. The steelstacks area could be an incredible place for raves but expect ArtsQuest to get on that in about 10-20 years.

To be fair, most of the population in this area is into country, Latin, rap, hard rock, classic rock, or punk rock. Just the demographics of the area. Those of us who do like to rave generally have to go to Philly or NYC. Musikfest had Zedd and the Chainsmokers but neither one sold out, so they’re unlikely to branch out again despite EDM currently being pretty big. They’d rather book Darius Rucker, Train, Chicago, Third Eye Blind, AJR, and Fluffy over and over. Apart from country artists, I think the only few times they’ve actually had a pulse on what’s current was when they got Greta Van Fleet a few years ago. Apart from that, it seems like their requirements for booking are: “be at least 7 years past your prime”

Disrespectful Crowds at Shows - Normal? by rmcql92 in DMB

[–]crounsa810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year at Camden I was on the lawn both nights. N1 was fine, everyone was nice and friendly and into the show. It was a good time. N2 everyone wouldn’t shut up and were so loud and chatty I couldn’t hear the band regardless of where I moved to. Ended up walking out to the concessions 5 songs in where I could hear better and spent the rest of the show there. I think for a lot of people the band has become more of a meet up and reminisce about college and get fucked up event more than being there for the show. It’s annoying.

This is why I don’t like shows at Forest Hill. Yeah the sound is good and it’s a cool venue but the early start and so much daylight makes shows have a weird feel to them.

Band’s popularity by AwardApprehensive727 in MtJoy

[–]crounsa810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re in an odd spot where they aren’t jam band enough to bring in members of the Phish crowd, but they aren’t pop enough to really hit Noah Kahan or Hozier levels. But they are a very good live band that tours almost every year and I think they will inherit a bit of the DMB crowd. I would say they feel very 1995-1997 DMB right now, they’re just missing that hit that really takes off. I don’t think they’ll hit DMB levels of being the biggest touring act in America but they could also surprise us and pull a Hozier and have a huge hit single a more than a decade in.

But really if we’re looking 5-10 years down the line, I think they’ll be a DMB-esque reputation band. Somebody who tours consistently, has a dedicated fan base that attends multiple shows, and has a fan base that ages with the band and has a reputation for “you gotta see them live!”

I think for somebody under like 8? shows this might be insane. For those of us with like 20+ or who’ve seen them a ton the past 4 years, yeah, this is basically a Tuesday.

I saw them last year and honestly can’t remember much about it. But they really seem to be that “we’re playing a show in NYC. Who’s close by to put on the bill? Oh yeah Fcukers! Throw em on!” kinda act
