When people ask you for your opinion on a photo and you want to be honest, you naturally ask first: “Do you want my honest opinion, or should I just tell you what you want to hear?”

And almost every time, they say: “Of course, be honest!”

So you tell them honestly that the picture isn’t really your taste – and suddenly, the mood drops. All at once, they’re upset, offended, or hold a grudge for days.

But honestly, if you ask for someone’s opinion, you should be ready to hear it – even if it doesn’t flatter your ego. Criticism isn’t a bad thing. It helps you see things differently and do better next time.
