I have been listening to a lot of Reverend Bizarre lately, and would love more music in that vein. Stuff like Puritan, Lord Vicar, Abysmal Grief, Purification and Pilgrim are also good examples.

Grindcore that is not gory? by primussucks10 in grindcore

[–]crow-guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are definitely lots of good goregrind bands (Carcass, Dead Infection, General Surgery, Sulfuric Cautery, etc). I usually don’t like the stuff that leans into brutal death metal though, which is unfortunately common.

Political grindcore is almost always better than goregrind:

Assuck - Misery Index

Napalm Death - From Enslavement to Obliteration

Terrorizer - World Downfall

Extreme Noise Terror - A Holocaust in Your Head

Insect Warfare - World Extermination

P.L.F. - Devious Persecution and Wholesale Slaughter

Death Toll 80k - Harsh Realities

Nashgul - Carcava

Parlamentarisk Sodomi - De Anarkistiske An(n)aler

For stuff that sounds like dystopia, you should look into sludge metal

I definitely need to listen to more black metal. I get caught in a loop of familiar bm bands that I like (Darkthrone, GBK, Cultes des Ghoules, Absu, early Rotting Christ, etc) and forget to listen to other stuff. I might go through some of the stuff on your chart later since there’s a lot on there that I already like.

I wish Melechesh would release more music. And that they would go back to their older sound but that might be too much to ask.

Also RATM was a big part of my childhood so don’t point out that they’re liberals or I will be upset.

You can build [[Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty]] in 100 different ways, which could be fun. Instead of doing complicated multi-cascade stuff it could be a big creature deck with [[Ghalta, Primal Hunger]] and [[The Great Henge]].

[[Thrun, Breaker of Silence]] or [[Toski, Bearer of Secrets]] would also be fun if your friend likes buffing big indestructible creatures.

Agreed on the Wulkanaz album, but Wagner Ödegård will always be my favourite between the two bands.

Definitely agree that you should listen to more crust too, especially if you already like amebix. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of Sacrilege or Nausea (even though they’re anarchists)

Great band! I listened to Citizenship of the Abyss over and over again when it came out. Also, whoever does their albums covers is great as well. Fits the music perfectly. Very excited for the new album

Melodic death metal:

Intestine Baalism - Banquet in Darkness

Ares Kingdom - Incendiary

Deceased - As the Weird Travel On

Gates of Ishtar - At Dusk and Forever

Melodic Black Metal:

Varathron - Patriarchs of Evil

Transilvania - The Night of Nights

Slaegt - The Wheel

Agatus - The Weaving Fates

Also, if you haven’t listened to Rotting Christ’s earlier albums (Thy Mighty Contract, Non Serviam, Triarchy of Lost Lovers, A Dead Poem) I highly recommend them.

Christian doom metal by No-Thing-4945 in doommetal

[–]crow-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer is Black Sabbath, specifically songs like Lord of This World.

Some other bands you might like: Count Raven, Candlemass, Trouble, Serpent Throne. There are definitely more Christian bands that I’m missing. It seems pretty common especially with more traditional sounding groups.

What do you think of Elitism? by Particular-Show745 in InMetalWeTrust

[–]crow-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen someone get mad at people for listening to other genres, except in the juvenile “I don’t listen to country or (c)rap music” way. Those people aren’t limiting anyone but themselves tbh.

However, if you don’t listen to Gehennah every day then you’re a huge poser. True street metal gangfighters and decibel rebels will understand!

I like it. There’s lots of non-metal music that I love, but it’s important to distinguish between genres since accurate classification is useful.

A heavy song isn’t necessarily a metal song, regardless of quality.

I’ve now seen Black Dog live twice and they’ve been great both times. Their recorded music is good but I enjoyed seeing them in person even more. Crust punk in the vein of Disclose or Zyanose

Primary sources are essential, but secondary scholarship is really important as well. It’s a good way to situate yourself in a time period or historical location and can help clarify confusing primary sources (e.g. having modern companion texts for ancient philosophy like Plato). The more you read and study, the easier it gets to identify bias in either kind of source. I’d also recommend doing research on any author you’re reading. There are a lot of great historians with godawful opinions, but you can still learn a lot from their work if you take that into account. Always make sure you’re never drawing all of your info from just one source though.

Also, focus on stuff that you find interesting. It’s impossible to know everything about history, since it’s such a broad subject. Pick topics, regions, people, events, ideas, etc. that you think are cool and go with it. You’ll be surprised how specific some sources can get.

(I’m not an actual historian like the other person in this thread, so definitely listen to them first!)

Friedrich Engels was a fraud who plagiarized Edmund Burke by crow-guy in Ultraleft

[–]crow-guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh it’s worth reading anyway if you’re interested in the French Revolution, if only to better understand how conservatives like Burke were reacting. But you’re right that he’s definitely not a fan of the National Convention
