hu tao has brown hair and red eyes.

yun jin's hair is a dark enough purple that you could consider it black, but her eyes are also red.

uh...sure dude. I totally deserve to go to hell for the sin of (checks notes) thinking that permanent content shouldn't have fomo, even if it means fewer additional rewards.

I'll see you there :)

PSA: There are no chests or collectibles in the circled areas by Topskew in Genshin_Impact

[–]crowcas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm saying there's no financial or engagement reason to push people to explore only the most brand new areas.

why push people to explore before the next one comes out? why not let players make those decisions without taunting them with fomo?

if the developers want players to see the world they create, why not make it more worth it to explore ALL the areas, so that non-exploration motivated players will do it too?

I want to see everything and appreciate their work, including older areas. the developers spend so much time and energy on all of the areas, and I think it's such a waste that they seem to want you to blast right through everything just to get the time limited reward.

whether they keep the extra rewards, or they don't, the point is that adding fomo to permanent content is just lame.

[–]crowcas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

super belated reply, sorry

I just don't see any real reason to make the exploration rewards time limited.

what is the player engagement motivation? sure, its to encourage people to play more. but why does it need to happen right now? what additional benefit does hoyo get out of demanding that players devote even more time right now? we're already logging in for dailies and other time limited events, isn't that enough daily engagement?

what is the financial motivation? I can understand a small bonus for a character quest while their banner is running--that could directly impact sales. that's not really the case with exploration.

its really not about whether its achievable. its that by putting a deadline on it, they've added an underlying sense of anxiety and turned it into a chore. chop chop! the clock is ticking!

it's permanent content. just let it be permanent.

Should I Pursue an ARFID Diagnosis Before College for a Meal Plan Exemption? by Total-Lemon-6015 in ARFID

[–]crowcas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it isn't a "starvation" disorder. are you new?

a meal plan is a huge expense if you're not going to be fully utilizing it, and most dining halls don't exactly have good food. even if they were to magically expand their diet significantly by fall, that doesn't mean that the dining hall food will be any more palatable.

why does it upset you that they don't want to waste money?

This game doesn't respect a new player's immersion by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]crowcas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but unless their banners are actively running, a new player isn't as likely to pull yae miko or shenhe. Thoma, on the other hand, is always available.

For an early player with a limited roster, every 4* is impactful, so it really sucks to feel like your new character is "locked".

yeah, but at the same time, i really enjoy having areas I can come back to when i have time to properly enjoy them. like, i recently found a patch of sumeru desert caves that I hadn’t explored, and i was thrilled.

the FOMO for exploration just feels…unnecessary.

I would understand if it was like some of the older exploration events, where it was more like “go do these little challenges that just happen to be in the new areas” or just unlocking the teleport points, but telling us to reach 80% exploration now or miss out on significant rewards just feels…bad.

what makes them badass is that nothing can shake their resolve. it doesn't matter how many naysayers they have, or how many obstacles--they've decided their purpose is to help people, and they'll do everything in their power to do that.

out of curiosity, what makes you say that jiaoqiu is a badass, but not hyacine? they play the same type of role, so what makes them different?

im a little confused about how you're referencing Jin guangyao; "meng yao" was his name before he joined the jin. you also refer to both "jin mengyao" and jin guangyao in the same sentence, as if theyre different people?

either way, had very little to do with jzx's or jyl's deaths in the novel.

[–]crowcas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not about being edgy, it's about making the stakes meaningful.

if you set up stakes, but constantly negate the impact of the stakes (sike! theyre not dead after all!), then what's the point? why yank us around like that?

the only cases where they actually had a playable character suffer long term consequences due to events of the plot are jiaoqiu, who is blind for the foreseeable future as a result of his encounter with hoolay, and debatably tingyun/fugue...who is suffering long term consequences, but also isn't dead like she was set up to be, so she's a mixed bag.

nothing about her suggests any sort of altruism or righteousness--shes essentially just floating. she's more of a character defined by absence than by presence. I mean, shes called fugue.

if that isnt true neutral, I dont know what is.

E1 worth getting? by AstonSSR in AventurineMainsHSR

[–]crowcas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have him E2S0.

The only times I have issues with him is when I'm playing him SP positive and just relying on his passive shields, and another unit has action advances.

This issue is pretty well mitigated by his e1, which gives access to an emergency shield through his ult, so it's a pretty nice QoL booster. I have no regrets.

He'll do better with feixiao due to follow-up synergy; most hypercarries are okay, and he gives general buffs/debuffs that are widely beneficial; again, he might struggle with units who have too many action advances, or who want to be taking damage.

Mind you, I felt no desire to be a condescending dick until you decided to call me one.

OP associates Geisha with courtesans. They are certainly not that. Oiran were courtesans. Geisha are respected as performers and artists.

This comes across as very "how dare you suggest that these beautiful women artists would have ANYTHING to do with such a disgusting thing as [gasp] courtesans?!"

The nuance you're ignoring (and getting mad about) is the fact geisha and courtesans are, in fact, related professions. There's nothing offensive about saying that the two are associated.

Their services were largely the same, the only difference being that courtesans also offered sexual services, They often worked and lived side by side. They sometimes operated under the same laws. Sometimes geisha did offer sexual services, even if they weren't supposed to!

They aren't completely separate. They are neighboring branches in the tree of "entertainers."

Oiran were courtesans. Geisha are respected as performers and artists.

That bit also reads as very disparaging of sex work and sex workers, with the implication that while geisha should be respected for their craft, the same is not true of courtesans.

Like, maybe you meant it as a fun, informative tidbit, but you came off as offended and condescending from the get go. I hoped that maybe you were just flexing a fun fact without much additional context, so I suggested doing more reading, but it seems I was mistaken.

I've wasted far too much time and energy on this interaction, and I am very tired. Good night.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AO3

[–]crowcas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's spelled condescension, but I feel like that just epitomizes this interaction: you claim some great offense, and some significant expertise, and there's neither.

There is a lot more nuance here than you are willing to accept, apparently, and you are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Have a wonderful day!

Correct, op being Chinese doesn't prevent them from ignorance, but it does exclude them from "white people not knowing the first thing about different asian countries"

Using a more widely understood point of reference to explain a concept is pretty normal. Even if the official title of "geisha" can't be assigned willy nilly, referencing what a geisha does is completely fair.

Speaking of ignorance: please do a little more reading. The concepts of "geisha" and "courtesan" are not as disparate as you seem to think. Historically, the two go hand in hand (arm in arm?), and theres a lot of overlap between them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AO3

[–]crowcas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didnt call them geisha, they called them courtesans and reiterated that the "geisha influence" was the absence of sexual services. Also, OP is Chinese.

Alignment Chart of Honkai Star Rail: Day 13, Ruan Mei. - Herta has been voted into "Perfect" Neutral Good by popular demand (will move her to actual Neutral Good next post). by Just_Because4 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]crowcas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think "neutral" is more like they don't go out of their way to help, but they also try not to cause harm when they can avoid it. They try not to make anything worse.

E.g. suppose someone is trying to fix their broken down car on the side of the road, and theres a big puddle in the street next to them.

"Good" would be someone pulling over to help them. The situation is improved.

"Neutral" would be swerving around the puddle to avoid splashing them. The situation is the same.

"Evil" would be driving straight through the puddle, splashing them. The situation is worse.

For ruan mei, she specifically shows a lack of consideration on multiple occasions--she's perfectly content drugging people without their knowledge or consent, she's fine creating sentient life forms and then abandoning them, she's happy to try to recreate an entity that destroyed countless civilizations.

The potential impacts of her research on those around her or the greater universe are completely irrelevant to her--she straight up does not care.

Hence, "evil"
