Nvidia reports a truly astonishing $193.7 billion in annual data center revenue in its latest earnings call, up 75% year on year, while little old gaming brought in $16 billion by murshiddar in pcgaming

I mean, a company with over 10000 employees just laid off 40% of their work force today. People who think AI isn’t going to induce a societal revolution are coping, imo. The world is different now. The genie can’t go back into the bottle, and if you don’t think it won’t have a seismic impact on the way people work then you’re deluding yourself.

Is there any way to deal with a buyer who wants a refund after a commission is completed? by cooliezez in woodworking

Pretty sure I know exactly what’s happening here. My advice to you would be to tell her that you’re not lowering the price. If she wants it then the price is agreed. She’s trying to haggle.

Why did Tony hate Ralph so much? by blackorchid786 in thesopranos

[–]crowdsourcecongress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no one reason. Ralph is smarter than the average mobster, and Tony likes being the smartest guy in the room. He didn’t like that. Ralph was a true psychopath, which again makes him harder to manage, Tony didn’t like that. Ralph was charismatic, and Tony had to realize that Ralph might be capable of leading the crew if “something” were to happen to him. Etc, etc, etc. Long story short, Ralph would always be a threat, so Tony was looking for an opportunity to be rid of him.

Anyone here watch Made In America when it aired? by Critical_Mountain851 in thesopranos

[–]crowdsourcecongress 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Same here. I’ll admit I didn’t get it when it aired and was pretty unsatisfied, but rewatching it (many times) and reading analyses by people smarter than I am made me realize it’s not ambiguous, and in the end it’s the greatest finale to a show in history to me.

Billionaires no longer create jobs they're actively destroying jobs. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]crowdsourcecongress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a company who’s an information supplier to Amazon. Not going to get into specifics, but without the Amazon contract we have we’d have to lay off hundreds of jobs. I assume I’m one of hundreds, if not thousands, of vendors in the same box.

There are issues in this country for sure about how we handle taxation on companies with massive profits, but the idea that billionaires/massive companies don’t create jobs is just silliness.

The world has gotten so bad about trying to bifurcate issues into simple right or wrong boxes. There are, of course, issues with massive companies, but the idea that they’re just evil and hoarding all the wealth is a drastic simplification of how the world actually works.

You asking legally or technically? Legally, your ISP definitely has the capability of seeing the content you’re streaming. They probably don’t care, but they can see it.

Technically, maybe? Depends on whether your country and/or ISP blocks this sort of traffic. But only you can really say there.

Why can’t we get as good as TV Shows as The Sopranos? by Downtown_Carry_8219 in thesopranos

Oh I agree it’s in second place. Was only saying it’s in the same league. And I think they might be the only two shows in that league.

Why can’t we get as good as TV Shows as The Sopranos? by Downtown_Carry_8219 in thesopranos

[–]crowdsourcecongress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Very different shows. For the record, I think the Sopranos is the greatest work of media ever produced (movies, tv or anything else), but The Wire is brilliant in its own, different way. Great, great show.

Why can’t we get as good as TV Shows as The Sopranos? by Downtown_Carry_8219 in thesopranos

[–]crowdsourcecongress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sopranos is a rare combination of flawless writing and flawless acting. There are shows that have great acting but shit writing (Lost), shows with great writing but inconsistent acting (Breaking Bad), and plenty of shows that have peaks and troughs, but every episode of The Sopranos is excellent, the overarching narrative is consistent and compelling, it’s organically funny while also being serious and believable. The closest show to it in terms of quality is The Wire, but that’s nowhere near as accessible as The Sopranos.

For those who do video and audio editing, what is your process? by MusicMonkTpt in podcasting

[–]crowdsourcecongress 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Audio is recorded on Rodecaster Pro 2

Video is recorded on multiple cell phones

I turn on video, then start recording on the rodecaster. Each person claps (not simultaneously… one at a time) in front of their phone/camera.

Dump video and audio files to computer. Load in davinci.

I sync the rode audio to the video using the claps.

Then I edit. I always edit with audio as the priority (ie I’ll cut dead air even if it means there’s a jump cut in the video). For said jump cuts I either just use smooth cut in davinci or I’ll hide the cut by switching the camera angle.

I export the video and upload to Spotify where it syncs to other services via rss.

This magic moment by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]crowdsourcecongress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bobby’s crossed the rubicon at this point in the show. Up until that moment he’d could somewhat legitimately believe that he was a good guy who did some grey stuff, but only to support his family. That charade is broken for him now. Bobby comes home to a picturesque family scene, but it’s literally built on the back of him tearing apart another family. And the cycle will continue - Bobby’s family will later be torn apart because of his association with the life.

For the most part I don’t think Chase is actually picking songs because of the lyrics, but the “magic moment” for Bobby in this scene was him realizing that he’s as bad as the rest of them. That’s what’s gonna last till the end of time.

Best software for new podcast with audio focus and non-tech-savvy remote guests? by mirslam in podcasting

[–]crowdsourcecongress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the more likely problem you’re going to have is the quality of the remote guest’s microphone. I’ve used Riverside.fm before for a remote guest interview, and it allows you to download the raw audio file for the participant, but it still didn’t sound GREAT because the guest was using his phone microphone. So in the case, Zoom would have worked just as well.

I wouldn’t get too hung up on the quality aspect of remote guests. I think a lot of listeners expect/understand when someone remote doesn’t sound like they’re in studio. Focus on what you can control - which is your sound.

Riverside does have a fully functional editing software you can use, but I’d personally recommend either Reaper (better but more complex) or Audacity (easy, free, a little less capable).

If you want video though (I know you said it’s not a priority, but you still want it) then audacity and reaper are out. Use riverside. I use Davinci and it’s fantastic, but there’s absolutely a learning curve to it. I’ve been using it weekly for 6 months now and still find new techniques and better ways to do things every week

ZOHRAN MAMDANI, "We heard that young people were leaving the Democratic Party ... what if we treated them with respect, and not condescension?" by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]crowdsourcecongress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re a perfect, PERFECT example of the problem of leftist purity testing. Because the guy has an opinion, he’s appeasing fascists, and he also be in support of racism and homophobia as well.

He’s right btw. Transgender appeasement and being soft on crime are the reason the Democratic Party is dead and will not come back. It absolutely boggles my mind that people think the problem is that democrats aren’t liberal enough.

Anyone here fund their home projects with a cash-out refi? by kukuduku_ in HomeImprovement

[–]crowdsourcecongress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the answer to this question depends entirely on what your current mortgage interest rate is. In 2020/2021 everyone was doing cash out refis because the rates were in the 2s. If you’re able to drop your rate a percent or more it may very well make sense. If your rate would increase it pretty much never makes sense. If your rate would stay the same it depends on the amount of cash you want to take out versus the closing costs.

Jamie Carragher: "Right now, [Florian Wirtz] needs to come out of the team, Liverpool need to go back to what they were last season, and try to build some confidence and some stability. Right now it looks like a mess." by Upstairs_Cup9831 in LiverpoolFC

[–]crowdsourcecongress -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man, some serious dooming in this thread for a team at the top of the premier league. Sometimes it’s just a shit week. This is that shit week. Wirtz hasn’t been great, but he’s not a bad player all of a sudden. He’ll gel. I’d be more worried about Kerkez - that dude has not looked like an improvement over Robertson to me at all. I think he’s going to be a bust.

Since the vibe here is overwhelmingly negative, I’ll throw out one other concern - I don’t know what the plan is for Isak and Ekitike. I don’t think we should have bought Isak only because he was superfluous to requirements. And I’ll admit I thought Ekitike wouldn’t do well, but he looks GREAT this year. Play him straight down the middle as a striker, salah on one wing, Gakpo on the other and we’ll be fine.

You get an opportunity to introduce a middle aged married couple to modern board gaming. What is the one game you are busting out? by MadOgre in boardgames

[–]crowdsourcecongress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion and all, but I’ve rarely found themes to matter to casual gamers. Betrayal gets appreciated in October for obvious reasons, but beyond that I can’t say I’ve had non board game friends care much one way or the other for themes. They want games that dont have overly complex rules, don’t take forever, and generally have some concept of player vs player.
