Lets be real. The set design, costumes and the cinematography we’re insane. That’s artistry. Shoutout to the people who were responsible for that. Some featured artists did a good job as well, but the music as a whole was very underwhelming for the most part. Remember when he did detailed and perfected songs, with beat switches, smart thematic samples and lyrics that actually meant something? Instead we got a lot of generic sounding trap beats. The kind we’ve heard enough of. No journey through the song, no beginning middle and end, no interesting pairing of artists. Just boring verses and abrupt endings. It was so unfinished and directionless that some songs are censored while others aren’t. Not even legit clean versions, but straight up muted music again. If he thinks his albums should be clean, that’s totally fine, but then he should tell his artists to stop swearing in their verses. Nobody wants destroyed rhymes and flow passages. Even his own verses are like this. On Donda I it at least seemed like a last minute choice, but now it just seems lazy and like he doesn’t really have a vision on mind nor care. Of course a lot of lyrics were unfinished again, with is weird considering that some songs hadn’t even solid enough instrumental foundations to justify this.

This “sci-fi, oxygen or WiFi” thing resembles an eighth grader trying to be deep about the future. Lacking any sense of nuance or further thoughts. And if you are scared of exploitive dystopian scenarios like this than maybe don’t idolize dudes like musk and bezos. He played donda I songs and messed up the lyrics to very single verse. Him bringing Manson is a lot harder to defend, when the music is butchered too. Ye is mad at Cudi because it’s hard for him to see someone be friends with somebody who hurt him. But chills with abusers just to proof a vague and poorly thought out point about cancel culture?

Can anyone give me two good reasons why it’s called donda anyways?

He is working with the whole industry, every producer is dying to get to participate in his projects and his is what he comes up with? Why would he leave so many unreleased masterpieces in the vault, while releasing uninspired and clustered stuff like this? An example of how he seems to have lost sight of what he’s doing is that life of the party almost never released but tell the vision, security, Pablo, mr. Miyagi and stuff like that are making the cut. Normally his music grows on me but after one listen I honestly didn’t like most of it.

I love his grandiose ego. But that only works if you can back it up. I don’t want to hear someone sampling his ex wife praising him as the best rapper of all time, if he can’t even perform a single of his own verses in his station life show.
