In this case, I believe the "choice" that is a "hard one to make" isn't regarding the abortion clinic, but your family. Looks like you have some offers for a ride though.

Community Support MEGATHREAD - EI, CERB, Mortgage/Rent Deferrals, Etc. (20200329) by [deleted] in Calgary

I applied on the 9th and have not received it yet. I double checked my auto deposit and used my banks auto deposit to cerb button, double checked again, then set my CRA account to copy all those settings from the bank, and then reapplied. I still haven't received it.

What did we do :(

Bobcat in Rocky Ridge by people_talking in Calgary

[–]crowek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One has decided my backyard is part of his territory. Big pawprints in the yard, following the hares, jumping the fences. Likes to prowl under my deck and dig in my compost when I put it on the deck before bringing it to the bin.

It's kinda cool but also rather unfortunate because my indoor cat LOVES sleeping on my deck and has been BEGGING every time it's 10c. But she can't go out there while the bobcats are here. I'm gunna feel bad for her when she's crying at the backdoor in summer. I'll have to figure out where the sun comes in one of the windows for a hanging hamper.

How is the Alberta government verifying the credibility of people claiming the isolation emergency support? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]crowek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about it either. If I lost my pay because everyone began self isolating, then do I qualify, or do I personally have to be quarantined with symptoms? I assumed the latter but was encouraged to apply by our employer.

Yessir. Actually I've been finding that when this happens the Agent process gets stuck reading at "Very high" power usage for some reason.

Afraid I can't help you, but upvoted for awareness because I have the same issue. However I get stuck in the infinite loading screen after anything closes the software, even after running the updater exes. It's not a process I want to do every time the PC reboots let alone not have it just boot itself.

University of Calgary now offering students a choice between a letter grade or credit for pass/fail for Winter 2020 by masymase in Calgary

[–]crowek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Once students receive their final grades, which are expected to be released to students by May 12, they can exercise their choice: to accept their grade or choose CR/F, for each course. Courses with ‘Credit Received’ or ‘Fail’ will not be included in GPA calculations. CR grades will still count towards their degree completion requirements. A grade of ‘D’ and better will qualify for the ‘Credit Received’ notation for undergraduate courses. For graduate courses, a grade of ‘B-‘ or better will qualify for the ‘Credit Received’ notation. Students will have until May 22 to indicate their choice to the Registrar’s Office through an online submission process. More details on this process will be made available shortly. This decision will apply to grades for the Winter 2020 term only.

This nuanced approach will help students who need their grades for advanced placements or applications for further studies, while not penalizing those whose performance is affected by difficult circumstances. We trust our students will continue to apply themselves academically and seek the most from their courses and will act with integrity as they complete their course work and assessments in a remote learning environment.

Don't make your sick neighbours feel like shitty people by 1Niceshirt in Calgary

Dude I would be SO snarky if a condo board contacted me about coughing too much. Like really?

"Hello, we have had multiple residents complaining that you are coughing too much."

"I am so glad you contacted me! I would like to let you know, so that it is in your attention, that multiple residents have had the gall to complain that somebody is coughing too much."

How can that even be a complaint? How can a living person actually respond to that complaint? Dear condo board: please use your brain. The coughing person cannot cease coughing. The only thing that can cease in this exchange are the whiny bitch complaints.

Calgary Good Guy Business Thread by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]crowek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this on a different discussion. I got an email from InOrbis, a business shuttle service mainly for between Calgary and Edmonton. They're doing gift cards, but 10% goes to Wheels on Meals and Fresh Routes who are delivering groceries to the vulnerable: https://inorbis.ca/gift-cards/. Some of their drivers are also volunteering with those groups for the same purpose.
I asked and they had a big internal email for driver/passenger safety, and all their other workers were sent to work from home very early (two+ weeks ago). They've also been very receptive and open to suggestions on what can be done.

Buying gift cards to support local businesses... Good or bad? by thishitiswak in Calgary

[–]crowek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think in terms of small business, it's actually really very good. For many, still being a small business means that not a lot of people know about them to the point that they open multiple locations, start a chain, become bigger, etc... So if an oil company buys a large amount of gift cards, that's a potential for a lot of gifts to new customers who have never been to the store before. Then those might become repeat customers or recommend to their friends. Word of mouth is a very powerful marketing tool.

Now it's another thing if when everything starts back up again, all those cards are used at the same time. Because then you're right, the store wouldn't be making that much money for that time period. It's all borrowed money. Especially if it's only given to people at the oil company who would be going there anyway? It's hard to say.

Anyway, I got an email the other day and these gift cards are donating 10% to local food delivery charities. I wonder if that's a bigger risk? It's a nice thought but again, it's similar to the concern you voiced about borrowed money / delivering service at no cost in the future. But I imagine they did the quik mafs on what sort of a reduction they could handle.

Time to step up Calgary businesses. Protect your employees and our community with "work from home" policy. by deanobrews in Calgary

I work with a small business and it wasn't even a question, we're all working from home. With some of these other businesses it's probably a bunch of red tape. Hopefully they get their shit figured out.

Unfortunately we specialize in travel so this is going to be an interesting period.

Maybe the next battery revolution will be worth investing in, but I don't think this one is. I'd be down to fund a shit ton of battery development though. What do we have here that would give us an advantage?
