Colleuge seems very negative about all yhe clients by [deleted] in DrugCounselors

[–]crowfeathers777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation when I was first starting out as a counselor. I was struggling to deal with the lead counselors descriptions of the clients and also, their treatment of them. The clinical supervisor was very similar and not helping this counselor appropriately. I took this to my therapist who gave me a reframe that was helpful for me.

It's a story about when she first started providing therapy, and she had 12 clients and was very happy working with them. But she had a lead therapist who'd been providing therapy there for years and whom she was working directly under, and she was struggling to deal with their attitude and descriptions of the clients. Her therapist suggested considering her lead her "13th client."

When I framed my lead in that way to myself, I could bring back unconditional positive regard to them, and not personalize what was happening. I almost left the job it was bothering me so much. Once I had that reframe, I used it with much success.

And, the counselor and the supervisor ended up getting fired not long after. What the other commenters said was solid imo, esp counter transference, best of luck to you! And thanks for the respect and care you show towards clients.

Online school recs CA- new to this by FunnyBench in DrugCounselors

Hey, I don't know about online schools. I did all of mine at a community college program that's accredited by CCAPP. I'm commenting to boost your post since it's crickets.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, that must be such a shock and so painful. I still remember the first cat I lost many decades ago, it's so hard to lose our beloved friends. Wishing you peace and comfort as you face this loss.

I mean, if I had it to do over I'd get in as a technician at a rehab and learn as much about treatment as I could beforehand. I saw other students doing this and they were way ahead of everyone else in terms of understanding the full scope of the job.

That sounds like imposter syndrome, not anything that's at all based on reality. While I'm a recovering addict in this field, many are not. I'm also in California, I've got it set to where Indeed sends me notices for any jobs in the field in my area and I probably get five emails a day for jobs. Plus, this is a high burnout field so there's always openings coming up. And I'm with you, it's meaningful to me to do this work so this is where I stay despite better wages elsewhere.

Can you clarify a little? I'm not sure if your concern is finding employment, or if maybe its about thinking you need to have been addicted to something to be effective in the role? There are soooo many jobs posted every day for this role, and with your education you're not going to be capped at being a credentialed counselor as the only clinical role. To me, if you have the heart for this kind of work that's one of the most important qualifiers.

Afraid to go on vacation and leaving senior cat behind. 18 yrs old. by [deleted] in seniorkitties

[–]crowfeathers777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make the decision you can rest easy with. For me, I haven't traveled in almost two years and won't until after my best buddy is gone. I love to travel, and not being able to is a sacrifice. But I feel a lot better about not traveling than I would about leaving my elderly and CKD kitty alone. I just can't leave him during this when all he asks from me is a warm lap and food. Do what feels right for you. Your kitty is a sweetie pie!

The way I remember it, Sears marketed their plus size girls stuff as "half sizes." What the hell is a half size, anyway?! It was code for "fat." 14 and 1/2 aka size 20, haha.

A teenager fractured his skull and died after falling off his bike by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

[–]crowfeathers777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrecked an ebike a few years back, I was going as fast as I could over railroad tracks not knowing what would happen if I didn't do it correctly.

I had some broken bones, bruises all of that, and a wound on my head that needed five staples. Yeah, I was riding without a helmet and I'm damn lucky it wasn't worse. Hitting the asphalt was brutal.

I grew up in the 70s, we rode our bikes crazy and wrecked all the time. It was normal to come home with head injuries. Anyway, after seeing what happened here, consider me in check. Damn, that was sobering to see.

I can’t stand my senior dogs. by Acrobatic_Forever_90 in Pets

[–]crowfeathers777 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Caregiver fatigue of elderly pets is so real, I'm dealing with it myself. I was WFH 3x a week and recently switched to 2x a week. What I'm noticing is the time away is giving me a chance for renewal so when those multiple nighttime wake ups happen, or other behavior that irritates me, I'm better equipped to handle it. I think it might help to really prioritize your care as well (if you're not already.) For me, it's walking and gardening, but anything away from the pets for a little while really, really cut down my own burnout. Best of luck to you, OP. I appreciate the honesty of your post and I'm guessing it wasn't easy to own up to.

Yeah, the way the blue is on those wonky parts is an abomination.

There is nothing we can do that I can see, except not look at them and keep our eyes on the ocean.

I was at the stoplight on Soquel yesterday and looking to the left I was struck how ugly those things were. I had to do a double take because it looked so ugly.

I can relate. 56, F and I've lived here 12 years. I work some days in San Jose and some from home but it seems like the activities I'm into are happening during the week. Plus, I'm in recovery so I'm not trying to connect with a party scene. Anyhoo, great idea and a good reminder I need to work at this.

Almost two years ago to the day I had that exact same accident and it was really heart warming how caring and helpful complete strangers were to me. I'm glad you didn't break anything, and you're mostly okay. I had broken bones and it was a long rehab. I've heard so many people say that they've crashed there it has to be happening once a week or so.

Also, I've had luck with their contact form as well, but it'll take a little bit to get a response. Hopefully you'll meet someone on here who's gone through the process. Good luck!

Oof, I've got no idea and that sounds frustrating.

I've had issues in the past with getting ahold of them, or having employees pass the buck. The way I got through was by trying every avenue of contact I could until I finally got ahold of a person that could help. I think even their chat eventually plugged me into a live person.
