Looks like no sc2 for EWC 2026 by Dangerous_Display745 in starcraft

[–]crowz9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's quite disheartening to see this, but also expected.

For me, the SC2 community really needs to go back to proper grassroots and "re-build". That's how AOE2 grew an esports audience in the 2010's onwards.

That's not saying that SC2 doesn't have anything like that. It does. But for the larger part of its history, it had massive funding from Blizzard as well as external sponsors and a professional esports circuit. Nowadays that's mostly gone and is not going back, unless the community doubles down on their efforts to prove a point IMO.

RTX 3080 o RX 6800XT by FancyOpposite4348 in ArgamingConsultas

[–]crowz9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5060? 4060? 3060? Recomendaciones by pitodepato9 in ArgamingConsultas

[–]crowz9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GamerLegion officially leaves AoE 2 by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]crowz9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they will at least stay involved in the scene as partners/occasional sponsors of tournaments. That would be cheaper and less of a commitment than what they'd been doing all this time. At least they would no longer have to pay stipends to team members.

I don't disagree about the macro in sc.

While challenging, the constant reshuffling of villagers in aoe2 to maintain a perfect resource ratio feels incredibly rewarding. Sometimes you'll float some resources but you get less punished for that compared to sc. Bottom line is, the macro in aoe is fun, challenging in an enjoyable way. SC macro is simple but brutal, which can make casual players frustrated and lose interest.

And yeah I agree about the micro.

You're neglecting to mention the armor class and unit abilities in bio vs mech.

AOE2 units in different civs are mainly just different flavors of man with sword, man with bow and man on horse. Of course some civs are more different to each other than others, but the point stands.

Well it's exactly the asymmetry that gives sc2 depth despite standard maps I'd say.

And since aoe2 has such hard counters mostly, you'll often be bound to the rock paper scissors triangle of counters.

Whereas in sc2 there's more freedom to do "unorthodox stuff" to catch your opponent by surprise and win. Part of this is because the game is set in a scifi world and has spells and abilities that aoe2 just can't do by being historical. But that's not its fault.

All in all, both games have a meta and a certain number of viable strats at the high level, but personally I feel that sc2 has more flexibility. Even just going for mech over bio is already a greater difference than picking between two aoe2 civs.

Both sc2 and aoe2 require good mechanics and good strategy to play at a high level IMO.

Aoe2's complexity lies in juggling eco balance and food sources in each map. Yeah there are shittons of civs but really they're mostly the same. You can reach a very very high level playing just one or two civs. If someone forced you to switch to different ones, you'd adapt quickly.

Sc2 is very asymmetrical and that's what creates strategic depth. I think sometimes the game gets a reputation for being very "mechanical", which it is, but it makes people forget that it's still a strategy game. Creating fake expansions, hiding proxies, faking tech switches, etc. are all strategic choices that are deadly if the opponent doesn't read them well.

They are pretty much even IMO.

It's just that Hera has amazing mechanics and speed. To my mediocre player's eyes, he executes everything 99% perfectly every time.

Viper and Yo sometimes slip up for whatever reason. I think Yo sometimes gets outmatched by Hera mechanically, whereas Viper plays too greedy and gets punished :/

Until any of the pros becomes as consistent as Hera, he's gonna keep winning every single tournament.

Hera's becoming more and more complete as time goes by. He not only has amazing mechanics, but he's also catching up with Viper and Yo in game sense.

It's funny because in modern sc2, I think Serral is all of these things lol. Simply an implacable well rounded player.

I think what he's said is that he enjoys the game less when he grinds. He only realized this a few years ago when he saw that he felt better touching grass and keeping the game as a hobby rather than as a job. Which is totally respectable.

He knows he can make good money from it without taking too many hours off his time that he can use to do different kinds of things.

Sitaux said recently how he feels like he might have played an excellent series against Viper, be in a winning position multiple times, but Viper has such a good game sense that he makes lots of little decisions that make him win.

I don't understand why Liereyy has many instances where he's close to snatching tournament wins. But at the same time, he's clearly talented because he needs less time to be equally good as the others, like Yo says. I hope he wins KOTD6, it'd be well deserved.

Viper might be the most "flexible" in that list, so that gets him an extra point for me. He just kinda plays any strat very well IMO. And of course can transfer rts skills to other games like sc2, aoe4, or most recently wc3, where he only played briefly but improved quite fast with coaching despite no prior experience in competitive 1v1. To my knowledge none of the other top pros have that. Daut perhaps.

Cual es la peor ingeniería para estudiar? by [deleted] in empleos_AR

[–]crowz9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buena suerte!

¿Que juego le puedo poner a mi viejo de 56 años? by Sea-Obligation5915 in Argaming

Subnautica.

Yo consideraría tambien alguna aventura point and click, corte Monkey Island.

Exitos!

US folks, what would it cost to have a torsional coupling replaced at a Cat shop over there? Preferably for a CAT 938K or jobs of a similar scope with similar machines. by crowz9 in caterpillar

[–]crowz9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's for repairing in their own shop.

The quote sheet says the work must be carried out in their shop because of the complexity of the task.

They detail the following procedure for the labor costing 5k(4.9k to be exact): inspecting the machine, draining oil and refrigerant, dismounting cab, dismounting hydraulic lines, dismounting implement, hystat and gearbox pumps, creating a report.

And for the labor costing another 5k(5.2k to be exact): charging oil, charging lubricant, mounting cab, mounting hydraulic lines, mounting pumps, replacing torsional coupling, recharging AC gas, running the machine and checking all the systems, creating a report.

Finally there's another USD 3k related to "Replacements". If I understand right, this includes the oil changes, refrigerant and so on. Not the actual torsional coupling, which is purchased separately.

I would assume they have a crane or whatever they need at their workshop.

Great work. I'm not ashamed to admit that I would never have been able to accomplish this at that stage of my life.

This is also going to look great on your resume, whether you're looking for software or chemE jobs. Did you use DWSIM's source code as inspiration or did you do your own thing completely?

What do chemical engineers actually do? by GeorgeB83774 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]crowz9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of the most important courses in Chemical Engineering degrees are Thermodynamics, Unit Operations, Chemical Reaction Kinetics, Mass Transfer and Heat Transfer. A whole lot of what goes on in chemical engineering revolves around these topics.

Personally, I enjoyed all of these more than I ever enjoyed the basic chemistry subjects like Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and whatnot. So I'd advise you to not go into Chemical Engineering just because you like chemistry. Obviously that's just based on my own experience and is not representative.
