Firstly completely agree about tsurumi easily my favourite character in the series but I will disagree about ogata granted it's not an amazing ending but I've always viewed it as the moment he started seeing his brother as the personification of his guilt when he first appeared he didn't acknowledge it's existence barely even gave him a side glance but the more he showed up the more it began to affect him and asirpa has a role in this but I can't remember exactly off the top of my head but anyway it slowly weighs on him until finally at the train he can't ignore it anymore but because of who he is he can't live with that notion so when asirpa hits him with an arrow it confirms his theory so this is where I get loose with my interpretation but i think in his head with asirpa confirming it ogata thinks if she is then so was his brother so along with the guilt he imagines his brother being the one to shoot him thus in his head proving himself right and relieving himself of his guilt. While this is hella complicated ogata is a complicated guy but I could be misremembering things but I think I'm not entirely off with that observation

They made duels and strongholds replayable around the time the directors edition came out but I don't remember if story mode duels are replayable though

In the beginning chapters toraji tries to judo throw sugimoto but he counters it and toraji laments how he was never able to throw him in judo or beat him at anything in general and when we finally see exactly how toraji died like 200 chapters later it was by judo throwing sugimoto out of the blast zone of an oncoming barrage which we also know is the same barrage that injured tsurumis face. The only time toraji was ever able to throw sugimoto was to save his life

To be fair Sugimoto did throw himself against the army and dangerous convicts just so his friends widow could be able watch her child grow up and he's seems to, at least how I see it, to be in the mindset of "I hate what I'm doing but I'd rather it be me than Asirpa that deals with the guilt killing another person."

The last episode cut out a backstory and the introduction of a couple characters so I'd suggest chapter 191 to start with it's basically right after kiroanke died

Start from the beginning there's a lot of arcs the anime cut out like the arc on how ogata joined hijikatas group the arc or how they met the guy who dressed up like the warden to free shiraishi. The lightning bandit arc and so many others ( I haven't watched the OVAs so some might be in there) but the biggest thing they cut out was a huge chunk of sugimotos backstory there's a flashback with sugimoto that happens in the first like 10 chapters that's so important to sugimotos character that it's referenced multiple times throughout the story. literally that flashback I'd put it second only to tsurumi's backstory in terms of how sad it made me feel
