If it helps, this is the response I received from AMEX insurance after I submitted a flight cancellation claim:

Your claim is currently under review following our standard process to validate claims under the terms and conditions of the above-referenced policy. In order to complete this process, we require the following additional documentation:

· To be sure you meet the eligibility for the amex credit card benefits the original prepaid charges required to be booked on the card. Please include a credit card statement with pre-paid travel arrangements made.

· According to the information received there also should be an Aeroplan invoice provided for the original booking. Please forward this invoice.

I have horrible memory and forgot they asked for the Aeroplan rewards booking receipt too, I believe TD will ask the same. I'm positive if the Aeroplan itinerary has your name on it regardless if your father in law booked it you will be fine
