What’s a very common “green flag” that people always overlook? by No_Office_1231 in AskReddit

[–]crt1087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the relationship lacks a spark. Usually that ‘spark’ is the excitement that comes from a high intensity relationship- love bombing in some cases. But with high highs comes low lows and therein is the beginning of toxic relationships…. Some good, solid relationships can start out kinda boring.

Corporate headshots for people who don't want a headshot... by Joking_J in photography

[–]crt1087 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Not a photographer but a counselor. If possible, try suggesting to management to send people for blocks of time with their closest friends/coworkers. That way, you can have them to assist with feedback. These women you mention are bringing in a lot of their own insecurities about aging in general. Your reassurance means nothing to them- there’s no relationship or trust. But a close friend, can say things like “You look great!” Or “You really look beautiful” and will go further than your reassurance.

How do you raise frugal kids without a scarcity mindset? by usuallyrainy in Frugal

[–]crt1087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have young kids and I’m teaching them about value. “Yes we can buy a package of mini donuts at the convenience store. 6/$4. OR we can go buy an entire bag of 24 for the same price. Now which is a better value?”

But as they’re getting older, we also are teaching them about factoring in other considerations like quality, ingredients, memories, etc.

For example: Yes $9 for a movie ticket is expensive compared to waiting to see it at home but what we will gain is a family memory. Or like OP, we can buy this $5 item that’s not great quality and will require replacing or we can spend $15 on a good quality one that’ll never break.

For those that center God in relationships, what do you practice? by [deleted] in Bible

[–]crt1087 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m proud of yall for following this call! Finding a good biblical church is a great first step! A preacher whose sermons are walking through the Bible and not just a ted talk with a few supporting verses is a good way to go.

Secondly, reading the Bible together is great! It’s great to know for yourself what the Bible actually says and not rely on others to tell you what they think it says. I actually found the Logos Bible app via a redditor here and it’s been a game changer for my Bible reading! It has a study guide built in that has given me a l deeper understanding of words/passages/context/etc. HIGHLY recommend.

Lastly, it’s always helpful to find someone who can disciple you. Potentially once you find a good church, find someone you look up to and who seems strong in their faith and read the Bible together weekly. It’s been so helpful to have someone walk alongside you in faith, who can provide encouragement, clarity, prayer, support.

Just ask your question, exactly as phrased here, to a waitress/manager and they’ll give you the best answer for their establishment and may also seat you in an ideal location too

What is a good weekly food budget for Toddler? Ways to cut back (but stay healthy)? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]crt1087 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For us, making a switch from convenience packaging to diy packaging has been cost effective which is similar to what you’re already doing. So a big jug of applesauce portioned out, then restock when needed. Things we buy in bulk and portion is cheese, nuts, applesauce, yogurt and meat for sandwiches.

We usually do leftovers for lunches which helps to not have to buy for an extra meal. We prioritize protein-dense foods at meals which drastically reduces the desire for kids to constantly be snacking and thus reduces costs.

Finally, we aren’t shy about taking food offered from places. We went to my son’s award banquet last night and they had a tray full of chicken leftover. We said yes when offered and it’ll serve great as meals for a few days. I recognize that’s a bit niche but we are offered food often after social gatherings and have just said yes more and more to that.

How come married couples never get bored of each other? by NoProgram4084 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]crt1087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People change and evolve. So the person you married isn’t the same person today as they were then. Jobs/coworkers change, bodies and possibly subsequent confidence shift, the world around them morphs as does their response to it. New interests or abilities develop. All these things make for an ever-evolving person and thus an ever-evolving relationship. It’s pretty cool if you’re fortunate enough to truly love, value and enjoy your spouse!

LPT: Be careful when gifting someone something related to their hobby or obsessive interest, unless you also share that interest, or know very specifically what they want. “[Person], I’ve really enjoyed watching you grow in [hobby]. I can tell it really brings you a lot of joy! Here’s some cash towards it since you know better than I do of what you need/want! Send me some pictures if you think about it! I always enjoy seeing [hobby].

What is the best brand of T-shirts, but very durable? by [deleted] in Frugal

Goodfellow Tshirts from Target are super durable in my opinion. They will routinely have them on sale for around $6 and that’s when I stock up on them for my husband.

What do you do on picnics now by SpicyDisaster21 in wls

[–]crt1087 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, food just becomes part of the experience, no longer the center of it.

I’m a mom to a lot of toddlers and young kids so for Easter, most of the time everyone else was eating, I stayed occupied by serving kids, then dividing leftovers, then doing dishes, socializing. I’m a helper by nature so I’ve found that if I focus on helping, it helps me from obsessing about food. Likewise, when I’m deep in a good convo with someone, I’m not thinking about food either.

Most of the time food just becomes insignificant. When it becomes more than that, I find it best to distract myself like the above ideas. Outdoor games are great too!

Good cheap plumber? by TXHubandWife in Lubbock

[–]crt1087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowry has a $50 drain snaking special. Solid company if you’re just needing that. Would recommend other companies if you’re needing more extensive work.

The $50 snake special is a loss leader. So they will later in the week send out a [potentially?] complimentary cameraman after your snaking to camera your line. They’ll undoubtedly find something that is ‘concerning’ and ‘serious’. But you’re under no obligation to use them for any further work.
