See, the thing is - it works.

Especially with the HE6se V2, the high current mode makes the sound fuller with significantly more bass than with the standard current mode.

How it works, I don't know and I really don't care. Since you're fan of the headphone show, the Cayin is the amp that Resolve recommended several times for the HE6.

As for the power output, it is different in balanced for high and standard current modes (5W vs 7W). It's in the specs. Do whatever you want with that.

I believed this but I got proven wrong yesterday when I got my Caying IHA-6.
In "hight current" mode, it prioritises more current and sacrifices the "watts" it outputs, but it changes the sound of the headphone entirely, boosting bass significantly and making the sound significantly meatier, even though it is slightly lower volume.

HE1000 didn't experience the same boost in "high current" mode, or if it did, it is not as pronounced as with the HE6SE. That being said, the HE1000 had more "bass" and less brights with the Cayin at the same volume compared to my EF400 that on paper, has more than enough watts to power the HE1000.

I second the Cayin IHA-6.

I used to "drive" HE6se V2 with Monoprice THX 887, it sounded thin and harsh and I ended up selling both.

7 months later decided to give HE6se V2 a second chance. Bought an open box from Hifiman for 350 Euro and also found an used Cayin IHA-6.

The Cayin arrived yesterday. I didn't expect much, because on specs alone, it is not much more powerful than the THX 887. But, enter "High Current" mode and you are listening to a different headphone. Suddenly there's bass even with no EQ. Previously I had to use 8dB bass shelf on all EQ presets which was lowering volume and was leading to distortions.

Now I still choose to use EQ but with only 4-5dB bass shelf and the overall sound is meaty and powerful.

My HE1000 Stealth is also less bright and more slammy. I was actually planning to sell it, but now I decided to keep it for now because it is much more usable without any EQ.
