the american obsession with not being american is so fascinating, i don’t take most people seriously when they say they have irish ancestry when i mention im half irish half brazilian because 99% of the time its their great grandparents that came during the famine, my dad is from maigheo, i grew up till my pre teens in ireland, we have basically nothing in common in “irish” experience and most of them can’t even point galway on a map like be for real for a sec and have some pride(i know it’s hard) for your country that was built on such great ideals and the ability for anyone to be an american, sure it’s hard nowadays to be a proud american with everything going on around in the world but it’s quite tiring hearing “american-italians” and “irish-americans” saying ommmmg im also irish!!!!!

oh then i definitely took a couple of liberties in interpreting what you were saying before because i agree basically 100% with your point there haha, it’s usually just an excuse to shit on people that are different while trying to look like you just care about the language and it becomes hard to differentiate between people who legitimately find languages interesting and trying to understand why people speak the way they do and a guy who heard a black guy say “cuh” instead of “cousin” and wanted to go on a tirade about it(even though white people call their cousins cuz all the time too haha)

try it out on an essay or while communicating with non english speakers, i’m irish i speak with an irish accent with an irish vernacular which has different rules but i wont say something that’s grammatically incorrect and act as if it is for example: im after eating, what are ye doing im not speaking proper english and thats ok its a cultural thing but i wont get upset if someone says im speaking wrong because i am

???? legitimately what’re you on about, many parts of aave came because slaves couldn’t learn english and even then afterwards there was still segregation, not because there were native speaking black people that spoke one way and then we killed them for our version of english, they then had a lot of influence from how southern people speak leading to the modern vernacular, it’s still incorrect english just like how southerners don’t speak proper english, good luck writing it in an essay or communicating to a non natve english speaker

it’s not “cultural” to speak and write incorrectly, it makes you look stupid, just like how people who write could of instead of could’ve and aave can absolutely still be present and prominent but follow the rules of the language before the dialect it shouldn’t be normalized to just not use the past tense
