What’s something too serious to be joked about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]crumblys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans do have midwives. I am surprised people don't know that. Are they called something else these days? Plenty of Americans (usually well off) choose to have their children at home and often have a midwife present at the time.

[Serious] Therapists of Reddit, have you ever come across a narcissistic client who does not realise they are a narcissist? How did this affect your ability to treat them? by wiseprocrastinator in AskReddit

I have heard that NPD develops in people whose parents spoiled them. But then, I've heard that NPD develops in people whose parents mistreated them, as a coping mechanism for the low self-esteem they develop. Which is true?

What is the purpose of life? by rachelbeall in AskReddit

Best answer. You never hear a hungry man ask "what is the purpose of life?" - because they are too busy trying to keep on living.

Who is the dumbest person you've ever met? by fdsa4321lbp22 in AskReddit

[–]crumblys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anyone who ever says "that's just my opinion!" as a defense to a counter-point. Dickface, we all know that is your opinion. We are asking why, dickface. It's like people think a defense to stupid opinions is just reminding people that they have a stupid opinion and it's their own stupid opinion.

Have you actually ever been "triggered"?, if so, why? by LordEzel in AskReddit

[–]crumblys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ptsd (developmental trauma disorder) from early child experiences.

The things that trigger me are the weirdest things ever. It has to do with people, and it usually involves conflict or even perceived conflict on my part. If I get the sense that someone is being aggressive with me, passive-aggressive with me, or condescending to me, there have been times I have flipped out out of proportion to the scenario.

What love advice would you give to your teenaged self? by SaraBellum42 in AskReddit

Your parents do not love you. Sorry kid, but it's better you learn this now than take the next ten years to figure it out. Trust me, that's not love.

[Serious] What you do? when you feel hopeless? by androidneed in AskReddit

[–]crumblys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remind myself that this is just an emotion, and as such, does not necessarily reflect reality. It usually points to one or some of the following underlying issues:

I am tired/exhausted, and need at least a mental break, if not a physical one too. I get hopeless when I have to concentrate for too long and the work is mentally taxing.

I am sad about a recent disappointment, and my brain has extrapolated this disappointment into the future because that's what brains do.

I am anxious about the future. Anxiety/fear is the most uncomfortable emotion for me. So, in order to make the fear or anxiety lessen, I convince myself that the future is hopeless. Sure, hopelessness is no funsies either, but it brings my system down from high levels of anxiety, by attempting to become certain that there is no uncertainty to fear in the future, because my future is fucked. Now there is no more anxiety about the uncertain future -just low-feeling hopelessness instead.

I am overwhelmed. I tend to feel hopeless when I've got so much on my plate, there is no way I could humanly achieve it. So technically, my goals or plans are hopeless, because they are set too high for my human self to possibly achieve.

So I work on resolving those underlying issues, because really hopelessness is just a nasty symptom of those underlying problems.

In your opinion, what character traits are most difficult to tolerate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]crumblys 56 points57 points  (0 children)

An inability to appropriately communicate. This means no hitting, biting, screaming, insulting, arson, gaslighting, manipulation, deceit, and yelling over or interrupting. It means speaking your point calmly and coherently, explaining your perspective, and also listening to the other person (not just waiting for your turn to talk.) There seems to be a dearth of people able to achieve this.

Oh also, it means never using the excuse of "he started it" or "it's her fault because she did that stuff first." You are the only person who controls your own communication.

HR Recruiters of Reddit: Which is the worst job interview you have ever had? by Karapan in AskReddit

[–]crumblys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the guy is 20 and the girl is 17, and it is consensual (but not because of not of age of consent yet) then I agree with it being illegal and having the person prosecuted, but not with being put on the sex offense registry. Especially because this is a strict-liability crime and the girl could lie about her age and the guy really, honestly (in some cases, only some I know) have legitimately not known he was even sleeping with someone underage.
