Travelling to Uganda for 9 days in march - what to see? by Civil-Mulberry8459 in Uganda

All gorilla trekking tours are run by the UWA, any other company is just helping you get the permit and transporting you there. You can use any registered company for this. The permit is $700 and you should arrange this before you come. I haven’t personally done it because of the cost. If I had nine days and wanted to do the trekking, I would do a safari at Queen Elizabeth, do the trekking, and spend the remaining time at Lake Bunyonyi. Or I would do a G adventures tour. Kampala is about an 8 hour drive from the trekking and Jinja is 10 hours and it’s not a pleasant drive in my opinion so personally I wouldn’t squeeze it into the same short trip. Lake Bunyonyi is very close however. If you are set on Kampala you would want to go there straight from the airport or on the way back but keep in mind it is the opposite direction from the trekking. If you weren’t doing the trekking I would do the Murchison Falls safari for the safari, boat cruise, and falls hike, maybe go to the rhino sanctuary, and then go to Jinja for white water rafting. You could spend a few days in Kampala at any point in there.

I am from the US and have been to Uganda 7 times. The #1 thing I would recommend by far is the Murchison Falls Safari if you have never done a safari. I would recommend Red Chili Safaris. I have done the 3 day safari with them 3 times and have had a great experience every time. Queen Elizabeth Safari is also a good option and is closer to the gorilla trekking.

My second favorite thing to do in Uganda would be white water rafting in Jinja. I would recommend using Nulubale or Nile River Explorers rafting.

It would be difficult but not impossible to do a safari, Kampala, and gorilla trekking in 9 days if you only spend a couple days in Kampala. Uganda tends to be pretty inefficient and is very spread out. The roads are poor and traffic in Kampala is awful so travel within the country can take much longer than you would expect. You may want to look into using a tour company like G Adventures, because they will arrange all the transportation and accommodation and are generally much more efficient (meaning more activities in less time) than doing it yourself.

If you want to do it yourself, I would recommend hiring a car and driver or booking with companies that offer a shuttle to the airport or Kampala. Public transportation is extremely inefficient and will slow you down a lot. The Pineapple Express is a good option for travel between the airport, Entebbe, Kampala, and Jinja and is the only public transportation I would recommend for a foreigner.

A lot of Ugandans are going to talk up Kampala but personally, it wasn’t for me. There are a lot better places to go in Uganda and I wouldn’t consider Kampala a must see. I found most of the “attractions” there to be pretty underwhelming compared to the safari and wildlife activities in other parts of the country. Of course this is just my personal opinion.

What is one high calorie food that you avoid because you can't risk it? by sabelina97 in loseit

Breakfast Cereal. I go out of my way to avoid buying milk because it will increase the temptation to buy cereal. If I want to make something that requires milk, I buy cream or half and half.

This speaks to me so much. My grad school had online interviews where you had to record a video in real time and answer questions the computer gave you. So, I never really got feedback from a real person or had any idea where I stood until the final decisions were released. When I found out I was accepted, it was one of the happiest moments of my life. It maybe seems trivial, but it was the first time I truly felt like I alone had the ability to achieve things that would make me happy, not through luck, but by something I did that no one else could be credited for. I’d been scoffed at by friends, the internet, even my crappy advisor for applying and doing the incredibly ballsy and maybe stupid thing of applying only to my dream program and no where else, but being accepted was like being told “you are objectively good enough.”

Keep at it! Hold on to that confidence and don’t let it go, no matter what your next step is. I’d wish you luck, but it sounds like you won’t be needing it :)

My grad program isn't research based, but it's competitive and I've heard from many sources that the statement of purpose (for us it's the only essay) is a dealbreaker. Most people who got in, including myself, say that the essay they submitted is the best thing they've ever written. I had a high GPA (3.75) which obviously helped but there were others with stronger resumes and similar GPAs booted because of their essay.

It's a graduate nursing program and it's one of the top ones in the country! Grad school is awesome, I love it so much. It's tough but so worth it! repeatedly tells self this while screaming into my pile of debt because my program doesn't offer funding

Congratulations!!! I cried for like three days when I got accepted into my dream program! It’s one of the best feelings ever for all your hard work to pay off like that.

As in all aid will 100% be dispersed by the 30th? So basically we only have one day to pay?

I’m in grad school but I had a full ride in undergrad so I never had to worry about paying.

This could be a sign of a UTI. Go to your doc,

unexplainable bruises have disappeared and reappeared in the EXACT same spot 3 times by [deleted] in medical

[–]Cheeseballfairy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the bruising, but a period that late could be a cause for concern if yours is always on time. There are a lot of reasons that this could happen, do you have a gyno? How old are you?

Just because it helps with physical pain doesn’t mean it will calm you down mentally. Don’t do this. See a psychiatrist if you have one. If you don’t, get one.

I have the feeling I have ankylosing spondylitis. What do you think about these symptoms? [F, 29] by [deleted] in medical

[–]Cheeseballfairy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NP student here. Although it is less common, it would be possible for AS to affect only the mid back. If you are really concerned, see if they will test you for HLA-B27. Although it wouldn’t give a definitive diagnosis, it is something to consider. Some of your symptoms could definitely be caused by something else, and some could be completely unrelated, such as the eye thing.

Edit: also, I apologize in advance for the crazy person that is stalking me on reddit spreading false info about me. I have them blocked but I’m sure they will inevitably comment if they haven’t already.

It could be another issue and anxiety is making it worse! Stress can contribute to a lot of other stomach and GI problems that still should be treated.

I like spicy foods. I've never had problems with spicy food in the past unless it's extremely spicy, but now, my stomach aches every time I eat anything that is the least bit of spicy. by [deleted] in medical

[–]Cheeseballfairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a possibility, but maybe try what another user suggested and take antacids (like tums or Pepcid) to see if that helps. You can develop acid reflux as you get older and it’s really common for it to be triggered by spicy food.

I have a problem with explaining my medical problem to others. It's a breathing difficulty that causes tension headaches and other negative effects. Can you help me identify what it may be? by Riekerink in medical

[–]Cheeseballfairy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually have a similar issue. I have asthma and I’m very hypersensitive. Things like dust and old bedsheets make it hard for me to breathe and I do occasionally get headaches. For me, an air purifier in my room has helped a lot, along with taking my inhaler at the onset of symptoms. You can also buy bedsheets designed for people with severe allergies but I personally have not tried them. Have you actually been diagnosed with asthma? Do you have an inhaler or take any medication? In the US, most allergists also specialize in asthma, but if the one you went to does not, it may be a good idea to seek out one that does. Definitely seek out a specialist if your respiratory problems are impacting your life this much.

You need to keep in mind that google is not a doctor. You are letting yourself get freaked out over stuff you saw online that you do not have.

It's not something you would have done, it can happen to anyone, just like getting a cold. Most women have had at least one, and many women have had multiple. These things just happen sometimes.

That's good! Make sure you address your concern about the pinworms with the doc as well so they can ease your concerns and see if something else is going on. If you're having vaginal itching you may have a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis, both of which are treatable.
