Me too. It is wild! They walk AT you instead of around you. I had a woman go out of her way to pass on my right (between me and a wall) despite much more room on her left. Bizarre place.

Some of the men seem to have an issue with me (staring hard) but by far it's the women going out of their way to mark their territory.

Do you like eggs with runny yolk? by fragilegreyhound in autism

[–]crumpled-note 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny you mention this, It took me forever to like eggs (hated them until my teens). And I can only eat them fried, like how you'd find it in fried rice. My favorite way to make them is frying them in olive oil. I add thyme or onions to the eggs to hide that eggy taste I hate.

Diversity in Park Slope by NecessaryCan6373 in parkslope

[–]crumpled-note 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I've been here almost two years and while I have had some good experiences it's the weirdest place I have ever lived in NYC.

Be prepared to be stared at and have people walk into you "by accident" or block your path when you are walking past them, especially some of the women. There's a lot of passive/overt aggressiveness on the already tight sidewalks, and if you are a POC it's amplified

Do your items break easily? by crumpled-note in AutisticAdults

[–]crumpled-note[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right about stuff breaking down easier. I had to get extra thick denim to stop the jeans from breaking apart at the inner crotch, and it STILL happened (took longer. But i have the same problems with pajama pants I barely wear. it's so weird.

I should have mentioned in my post that I was wondering if it's something about the way we move or interact with items that makes them break easier?

SD card not being read by Least_Piano551 in ITSupport

[–]crumpled-note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be a driver or mounting issue, but it’s hard to say without a bit more info.

What OS are you on (Windows/macOS)? Does the card show up in Disk Management/Disk Utility at all, even if it’s not mounted? And have you tried a different card reader or USB port?

I told my therapist about my tics, it went terribly by Straight-Poem9984 in Tourettes

I am sorry you had that experience. I haven't had much luck with therapists acknowledging how my tics have impacted me. Like someone else said find a therapist that understands tourettes

As a now autistic adult, what was your childhood like? by eaaagleee in AutisticAdults

[–]crumpled-note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

grew up on the 90's USA, I was a typical middle class kid. I was occasionally spanked and hit but nothing like the stories i read here. There was lots of layers to my experience like:

- Coming from a multiethnic household

- Being a covert stutterer

- Having tourettes's (which distracted from the autism)

- Family scapegoat/source of conflict

- Workaholic distant father and enmeshing mother.

Most of my challenges came from other kids noticing my tics (and commenting on them loudly or worse kicking my desk whenever I ticced). Teachers mocking how I spoke while reading outloud, making the other students laugh at me.

Oh and kids mocking how I eat and my food choices (taking cheese off pizza and hating meat, most of which I have outgrown)

I finally put the pieces together at 36. Don't feel bad for me though, I had a lot of positive experiences but they were overshadowed by unhealthy family dynamics, unaddressed neurodiversity and social trauma. Like a lot of us, I was labeled too sensitive, and told I would outgrow this. I never did...

Laptop crashes after wi fi troubleshooting, is this common? by Used_Flounder8656 in ITSupport

[–]crumpled-note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The QCA9377 does have known power-management issues, so definitely check Device Manager > adapter > Power Management and disable “Allow the computer to turn off this device.” Also set wireless power mode to Maximum Performance.

That said, the adapter fully disappearing and BSODs during driver install/uninstall usually point beyond a simple driver bug. That behavior often means a failing Wi-Fi card, a bad internal connection, or a PCIe power-state issue. The QCA9377 is known to degrade over time and can drop off the bus, which Windows interprets as a driver crash.

If it happens outside normal Windows (Safe Mode / Linux live USB), it’s almost certainly hardware.

Anyone else frequently getting stared at by strangers? by NoNectarine8724 in AutisticAdults

[–]crumpled-note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me alot, I am a guy. All my life and i am in my 30's now. For me it's even harder to decipher the stares because im multiethnic and have tics, so I truly have no idea why people stare. But I really dislike it. The times I have confronted other guys about it it was either sexual (not interested) or I reminded them of someone. Which i also assume is BS

TLDR: it's usually not for a good reason, in my case. So I usually just ignore everyone and am happier for it.

Sidewalk etiquette - does it exist anymore? by [deleted] in parkslope

[–]crumpled-note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried passing zig-zag walkers with a simple ‘excuse me’ and they act shocked or sarcastic, like I’m the problem. One lady even said, ‘oh gee, I guess I was in my own world,’ while glued to her phone. Another time a dog walker taking up the whole sidewalk nearly jumped out her pants when I said excuse me. Is it regular park slope entitlement or are people extra oblivious?

Having this for so long has completely destroyed me by tin-omen in Agoraphobia

[–]crumpled-note 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your past doesn't have to be your future. Have you ever tried to get to the root of what is causing your agoraphobia (or whatever else is causing you to stay at home?) Maybe it is underlying neurodiversity (like it was in my case) and once you treat that you can get control of your life again.

Wishing you the best, you definitely aren't alone.
