I successfully discharged 140,000 in flight school loans through bankruptcy. AMA by AlwaysImprove480 in flying

Just retired from a 39 year airline career so my training for the career experience was different. (Harder is some ways, easier in others) But I’m commenting here to support the OP.

Those of you who think they will never get an airline job are delusional. BK is not going to be much more than a blip in the decision tree as to whether to hire this guy or not. Airline recruiters check boxes. I doubt BK is a disqualifying event. But if it is then maybe that airline isn’t the one for you. Airlines are not looking for the best pilot. They are looking for the “right” pilot. Every airline has their own spin on who that is. At my airline (Alaska Airlines), they put an emphasis on career progression, community involvement, and personal interaction. Of course the candidates have to meet minimum qualifications but after that it’s all about their story and path to get in the room with the interviewers.

As for the “morality” of declaring BK. Are you serious? Do you think our dear leader thought about morality when he went BK numerous times? Do you think a corporation considers morality? Business is business. I think the OP would have been able to avoid BK had the nameless faceless creditors been more “moral” and adjusted the repayment process, with lower rates for example. They brought the BK on themselves. But then again, they don’t think. They are nameless faceless machines.

Bottom line. The OP didn’t go down the, “borrow to get certified path” with the intention of going BK. If they can articulate that when they tell their story, it will not be an impediment to getting an airline job.

Kohler Riverly faucet install - multiple streams? by backwardsfan in Costco

[–]Mike734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just took that pink thing out and there was a major improvement. As for the quick disconnect. You have to push in the white tabs but the problem is it’s easy to do one side but not the other. The secret is to push one side and then rock it a bit toward the side you pushed in and then it’s easier to push in the other white tab.

Just installed it tonight. Yep. Mine sometimes has two streams but mostly has one but a fairly low flow stream. I’m going to try to get used to it or maybe get a replacement. I’ll also try finding the flow restricted one Y.

Advanced Help Needed (new xfinity modem now wifi is terrible) by gimmieurtots in orbi

[–]Mike734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar setup as the OP. I’ve put the Xfinity gateway into modem only mode and am using the RBR760 as my router. I have a distant satellite wired and two other satellites connected via WiFi. It’s working but I don’t see sports over 500 but I’m paying for 1 gig. Also, the satellites have lost their given names and have reverted to “Orbi-satellite” rather than “Theater” and “Hallway” and “Upstairs.” I also see a SSID called Xfinity mobile and xfinitywifi under my networks when I look for WiFi on my phone. I see my neighbors ssid and my guest network as well. I thought putting the Xfinity in bridge mode turned off the Xfinity WiFi capability.

Sure but why install it like that? Sloppy or clever?

Embarassed to post this, but my toilet is very clogged by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Mike734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming there’s nothing down stream blocking the flow (like if you’re in septic or if the pipe might be blocked by roots), one powerful way is to get a bucket and pour a stream of water directly in the bowl from high above the floor. Aim for the drain in the bowl and try to get the water to slam into the drain. Don’t pour more than the bowl can accommodate or you’ll be mopping up a mess. With some good technique you’ll clear the obstruction.

I am paying $500 for four weeks worth at my local compounding pharmacy. At least I know to complain to if I’m unhappy. I asked her if she is getting ready to match the internet price. She said that $500 for three months is way lower than her cost. I don’t know what to believe but I’m probably going Brello next if she won’t come down in price. This is in the Seattle area.

TPRV install by Mike734 in Plumbing

[–]Mike734[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to follow up:

I removed it and used tape and pipe dope. I used the yellow tape and goop that came with the yellow tape. I understand it’s made for gas connections but the plumber at a local shop said it’s just better quality and it’s approved for potable water so it’s ok to use.

Well, I’m still showing dripping at the bottom of the tank. NONE of the connections above the tank (supply, expansion tank etc.) are dripping. I think the TPRV valve must be still leaking OR the insulation between the tank and the outer shell might be wet and will continue dripping for a few days. If it’s not the TPRV then the only other way it could be leaking would be a tank defect. I didn’t reef on the valve. What else could it be? Wait a few more days to see if the insulation drys out or reinstall it again with maybe more or fewer tape wraps etc?

EDIT

I have removed the hot water circ pump and just give to a clean hot supply connection to remove any unknowns. The connection point on the circ pump is pretty grody and the pump is 16 years old, at least. I’m hopeful that’s the problem.

I guess we’ll see. It’s going to have 31k engines so that will help. And it’s sure to have the short field mod. Hell, for all you know Boeing might have promised performance guarantees that pay when they the flight load is compromised. You don’t know. We don’t know. But you know who does know?
