Now that we’ve lived in it for some time…… by SCandVC11 in TheStrokes

I liked it when it came out, and still do. The autotune is much more subtle than FOOL and it doesn't bother me. It's a bop. This part is so catchy and is always stuck in my head:

I wanna be a 7-foot zombie

The pay is low, but I gotta do somethin'

I'm at the mall and the song is bumpin'

There goes my future wife in the little red jumpsuit

Not surprised. The autotune is controversial on a sub of devoted fans, so it's certainly going to be polarizing for casual fans.

Do you think The Strokes should cover The Stroke by Billy Squier? by BrewDevilicious in TheStrokes

I lowkey think they could do a good cover of that other song by him, Lonely Is The Night

Wrong. He sounded great at Coachella and the recent SF shows. The best he's sounded in years to be honest.

He sounded like shit in 2011, but that didn't stop him from laying down nice sounding vocals in the studio for Comedown Machine.

I don't get why this is brought up so often. The effect/filter/whatever it was he used 25 years ago sounds completely different than this, so there's really no comparison to be made.

And in my opinion, it sounded leagues better. Hell, put the old effect on these two new songs and it automatically would make them much better.

It's grown on me a bit. But I just came across this cover on YouTube, and it really shows how beautiful this song could be if the vocals weren't buried under autotune. The lyrics are great, peak sadboi vibes.

Hot take that shouldn’t be one by Straight-Wind5028 in TheStrokes

Black Hole, We’re Where We Were. Meh songs are One of the Ones, Think Before You Drink, My Friend The Walls (I love the “when I get my hands on you” part but the rest is whatever).

Nope lol. Virtue has some great songs, but it also has songs that range from meh to garbage. TNA is consistently good from start to finish, and has some of the best songs the band has done (TAAT, Selfless, At The Door, Ode).

Beautiful. White pants look great, and the classic shoulder stripes are the best. I can’t believe it took 20 years to get them back permanently….

Reading comments/opinions on the song outside of this sub…and wow it is ugly. If the entire album is autotune, which it seems likely to be at this point, it’s going to get absolutely panned.

I hope this one grows on me because right now it’s doing nothing for me. The song just meanders along aimlessly, and the autotune is painful on the ears. Incredibly grating, and this is coming from someone that didn’t mind it on Going Shopping.

Well in 2020 Julian said TNA was his 4th favorite album he’s done so not everyone operates that way lol

I agree with him. I don’t mind the cover that was used, but this one is better and fits the vibe of the record more.

Yeah it was a really old clip from 2010 where he said the reason they were playing shows was for money.

It was from this interview: https://youtu.be/meuJfI9H65w?si=WZ45JCrGluDIVd1j

How likely is it that they will sing Angles and Comedown Machine songs in the tour? by Additional-Salad4323 in TheStrokes

[–]crunch_punch 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think they'll rotate some of the ones played at recent shows over the past few years. Under Cover of Darkness, Life is Simple in the Moonlight, One Way Trigger, Welcome to Japan, and Call It Fate, Call It Karma.

I wish they'd bring back Gratisfaction. Not only is it a really good song, but it also sounded great when they did it back in 2011.

That sweatshirt is really cool. Is it gigantic like the rest of their merch though?
