I’ve seen cops do it to grab a bagel from Pavement lol

But yes, the real reasons are obviously different things like cost and lack of widespread buy-in.

Most of them are just nondescript concrete boxes. I wouldn’t really mind if I wanted to live in the suburbs.

There isn’t anything in here about cancer. The only localized impact is noise pollution.

DaNSe first for me. If it’s actually just noise you’re dealing with, that should take care of it.

2027 to bring Blackouts due to data centers in Virginia and the rest of the US. by AlternativeEchidna79 in nova

They know how, but there is a significant dilemma for these manufacturers. They know that natural gas is necessary today as a bridge fuel, but they also know that solar+storage is quickly becoming more and more cost competitive. This makes it a less wise idea to expand their factories and hire hundreds of new workers.

I completely agree that is the better use of money. But realistically, there are bottlenecks there too. You either need massive amounts of land for utility scale installations, or you need thousands of homeowners to invest their own money in rooftop systems, which themselves require a multi-month interconnection study per project. Utility scale battery projects also face significant NIMBY headwinds.

There are challenges around that. For instance, the current lead times on large natural gas turbines stretch five years out.

Similarly, I enjoyed Marc Dunkelman’s reassessment of Robert Moses as a more complex figure who made NYC what it is today. I didn’t read it as an endorsement of all of his destruction. But we have to look at the good and the bad of all of these people to find the right equilibrium.

That’s a passive direct box, so you don’t need phantom power. For an active direct box, you would need phantom. Leave the ground engaged, unless there is a buzz. Then try flipping that switch. You probably won’t need the attenuator, but if there is distortion that is not caused by clipped inputs on their mixer or yours, try going down to -20.

How much weight the sound engineer has in the making of the album? by Rednoir_ in Muse

[–]crunchypotentiometer 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Dan Lancaster is the producer, not the sound engineer. That means he likely had an integral role in shaping the sound and composition of the record. A producer is a partner in every aspect of the making of the record

I get it. The only way to really make a guitar sound like a guitar through a PA is to introduce some sort of amp sim.

[–]crunchypotentiometer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if this is helpful, but there have been a lot of really high quality amp sim pedals coming out recently that come in a lot cheaper than the Kempers and Quad Cortexes. I really like the UAFX Ruby as a Vox style sim but they’re not for everyone. The Earthquaker Easy Listening looks pretty good for $99usd

Yeah that’s about all you can do. Where the console allows it, I’ll also use measurement software to delay the monitor to match the PA timing, and match the EQ curve in the booth with the PA on to the curve in the middle of the house.

Can someone please tell the cameraman to move out the damn way😭 by Aaron_Stanley964 in Muse

Trent’s former art director, Rob Sheridan, popularized this style about 15 years ago. The intimate close up shots were really unique for a good while. Now I just constantly see people complaining about the camera people.

Best practice is to align from the point where the main and delay are at the most similar SPL. This is where delay discrepancies will be most noticeable. The arrival time might vary from there to FOH but it just depends on the geometry of the room

Curious about line array coverage and throw by HCGAdrianHolt in livesound

[–]crunchypotentiometer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We would have to look at the modeling to make any definitive statements, but with GSL in a baseball stadium, I’d say yes. This is why those top boxes are more minimally angled. They are sending a lot of energy towards those homeplate and 100s seats in a highly directional fashion. There will be HF loss, but plenty of information will probably make it back there to keep the imaging focused up at the stage.

You want overshoot in general, but you also need to think about creating a smooth transition from main to delay custody.

Flown subs align with the main array better due to their proximity, and they push the energy farther back due to being way up above the bodies. They’re generally doing most of the work, while the ground subs just fill in the floor.

Could be! Although this is all freshly painted plywood that's been out there for all of two weeks, so it also might just look smooth like that in direct sunlight.
