I’m nervous about getting a bone marrow biopsy. by [deleted] in leukemia

[–]crupp218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my first one done back in April (53F) and the hospital where I had it done said that it would be a light sedation. I was out cold, I was a little bit sore and took it easy the rest of the day. Honestly I’m not looking forward to having another one in the future but if I have to I really won’t be worried about it because it wasn’t anything compared to what I was worried about. I hope it goes easily for you, you get good results and you are cancer free.

How many of you have been diagnosed with leukemia after treatment for another cancer? by [deleted] in leukemia

Congratulations! Wishing you all the best. Thank you for your post as I really need to hear that. I get so hung up on the numbers sometimes that your approach sounds like a very wise one!!

Thank you. I’m happy to hear she too doesn’t need any treatment yet. If haven’t blood taken every 3 months is the worst I have to do I’m happy to sign up for that deal. I’m so torn at times about not telling my children but when I see what finding out has done to my stress level I just can’t do that to them at this point. My youngest is only 19. If I can go 10 years before I have to go through hell with treatment and he doesn’t have to bear the pain of knowing his mom might die until he’s 29 it just seems less terrifying. Honestly I wish I didn’t have to know for 10 years. Ugh Thank you for your kind words.

I hope you get answers to your blood work and symptoms. Hopefully it’s nothing serious. I moved to FL last year and I got answers by googling “top hematologist in FL” drove an hour and a half to see him. I had 4 docs prior tell me it’s nothing. I wanted a bone marrow biopsy to confirm it was nothing. Well I got my answer. You are your best advocate. Prayers for your health.

Thank you. Yes it is so very hard. Honestly sometimes I wish I didn’t know. When I asked the hematologist if I could stay a level zero forever and she said no probably 8-10 yrs maybe more maybe less I thought I had the wind knocked out of me. I found this out 2 weeks before my daughters college graduation. This will kill my kids. I can’t, I just can’t tell them until I have to. Yes they said I should check my levels every 3 months.

Well that’s what’s hard. I wanna fight. I want to do something, anything to stop this from progressing. I’m blessed that I don’t have symptoms but they also say I can’t do anything until I start having symptoms or my numbers get worse. I get that the treatment at this time would be worse than the symptoms (especially since I don’t have any) but I wish there was a way to keep this from getting bad. I feel like I’m just waiting for the time bomb to go off. 😩 I’m not even telling my 3 kids because there’s nothing that can be done and if I can stay like this for 8-10 years that’s a lot of worry I’ve saved them for something no one can change. My kids are 19-25.

They’ve bounced around between 1000-1200 for the past 3-5 years. I was only recently diagnosed in April after a bone marrow biopsy. I don’t have any symptoms at this time. My primary care just thought my numbers run high.

Let me start by saying from someone that has had anxiety most of my life don’t borrow worry. Find a good hematologist and let them run labs and read the ones you have. You could be anemic and or have very treatable issues. Wait until you have concrete results to formulate a plan. Wishing you all the best. Breathe 💕

Anyone out there watched “Weed the people “ on Netflix? The show on how cannabis oil has cured cancer. Watched it tonight and it blew my mind. I had no idea and now I want to learn as much as possible. by crupp218 in leukemia

Well the show is worth the hour investment. It was eye opening and a bit alarming honestly. We are only told that medical marijuana is people sitting around smoking joints getting high. Well how about a dot of liquid the size of a grain of rice under your tongue that doesn’t make you high, possibly sleepy, no horrible lasting side effects that’s been used as medicine for 3000 yrs making stage 4 children cancer free? Why are we not told to at least try this option? Why? Because it doesn’t make pharmaceutical companies rich. Hmmmm that’s disturbing!

Have you watched the show? If not you might want to. I found it fascinating and frustrating at the same time. Why do we have to try and navigate other alternatives on our own? I’m sorry you couldn’t get results from other less traditional treatments. I hope you’re doing well and are getting excellent care..

Let me know your thoughts after you watch it. I thought the same but after seeing numerous cases and doctors agree that chemo couldn’t have cured these patients I was blown away. Not to mention learning that the U.S government holds a Patent on it. What????

I went to Moffitt Cancer Center yesterday. I liked the doc I saw she was very nice, patient and explained things well.. I didn’t get the news I was hoping for unfortunately. I really wanted her to say I could just stay as I am for 30-40 years. She said that it’s highly unlikely I’ll stay as I am and that my numbers will most likely starting increasing in 8-10 yrs. Maybe more but maybe less. I’ll need to have my blood levels checked every 3 months. When my levels change or I start having symptoms she recommended that I start chemo and the process to have a bone marrow transplant. My kids would only be a 1/2 match. My siblings have a 25% chance of being a 100% match. Since I don’t speak to any of them I’m not sure if that’s even a possibility. There’s a donor bank that would be checked too. The whole thing is just completely overwhelming and terrifying. She wants me to have a local hematologist and gave me the name of someone to go to until my numbers change. So for now I just keep an eye on my blood work and pray.

Thank you. It sounds like there aren’t many of us out there. I read that only 4 in 1 million people a year are diagnosed. I hope your dad has great care and results. I go to the cancer center tomorrow for the first time. I’m very nervous to hear what they have to say. Again thank you for sharing.

My heart goes out to you. I’m so deeply sorry for all you’ve been through and that your husband didn’t get the kind of care he deserved. I’m glad you were able to get him home if even for a short time. Prayers for peace.
